I. Explicit
Based on the song if I’m going to understand it in its literal sense, the person is going to
follow the map that leads him/her to the person he/she loves no matter where that person is.
Though the person did everything for the one he/she loved, still they ended up losing each other
and wants to follow him/her wherever his/her loved one might be.
II. Implicit
On the other hand, if you’re going to understand the song line by line, it seems the song
has a deeper meaning. Comparing it to its explicit meaning, the song has an extreme
exaggeration. Just like in the line “I hear your voice in my sleep at night” would be a little bit
scary if the person you long is already gone for you can’t literally hear a voice. This only means
that he really misses her so much to the extent that he is being driven crazy by the voices.
Another line is “I miss the taste of a sweeter life”. There’s no such a life you can taste nor can
you tell what it tastes like. So the deeper meaning has to be that “sweet life” he misses is the life
they shared together. And lastly, the line “we had it all” was somewhat exaggerated as well since
you can’t have everything in life and that everything he/she is talking about was all that they had
and now that they would never have.
III. Moral
The song is not about giving up on a relationship after it is being derailed and getting
back on track. It’s about people go through a lot of things and step on others and we all make
mistakes. It’s kind of more about not giving up on something, even though maybe we should.
