Lincoln County High School does not have a Site Based Decision Making team.
However, they do have a leadership team, which serves as the same purpose of a SBDM team.
The leadership team is made up of the administrator, 2 assistant principals, CTE Supervisor, 1
faculty member from each department, and 1 counselor.
Tab Mathis, Principal- I spoke with Mr. Mathis in the office when I was completing hours with
Ms. McComas. This is his first year as principal at LCHS, so he has tried to build relationships
with faculty and has tried to utilize the leadership team as a place where faculty’s voices can be
heard. Mr. Mathis does not want to promote himself as the leader of the team, but wants the
faculty to see him as “just another member.”
Sue McComas, Assistant Principal- Ms. McComas is the only administrator that is still at the
school since it opened in 2006. She believes that she feels empowered, but is not overpowering.
She simply guides the team to make mutual decisions. She agreed with Mr. Mathis, and stated
that the administrators agreed to not show authority within the leadership team, rather be there as
a resource if faculty members have questions and to approve or revise their plans.
Polly Smith, Assistant Principal- Mrs. Smith said she is excited to be on the leadership team and
has used the team to build relationships with faculty members, as this is her first year in an
administrative position. She also does not want the faculty to view her as authoritative, but wants
to provide input and guidance in various decisions.
Matt Miller, CTE Supervisor- I did not have a chance to speak with him privately, as I am
completing this rotation during the summer and faculty members are not in the building.
David Adkins, Science Dept Representative- I did not have a chance to speak with him privately,
as I am completing this rotation during the summer and faculty members are not in the building.
Tammy Igo, ELA Dept Representative- She happened to be at the school when I was completing
hours and I was able to have a conversation with her about the leadership team. Mrs. Igo finds it
to be an honor to be on the leadership team. She says she has a controlling personality and being
able to help make leadership decisions really helps her stay satisfied in her career.
Bill McCloud, Math Dept Representative- I did not have a chance to speak with him privately, as
I am completing this rotation during the summer and faculty members are not in the building.
Holly Bryant, Social Studies Dept Representative- I did not have a chance to speak with her
privately, as I am completing this rotation during the summer and faculty members are not in the
building.
Randy Adkins, Special Education- I did not have a chance to speak with him privately, as I am
completing this rotation during the summer and faculty members are not in the building.
Larry Harshbarger, CTE- I did not have a chance to speak with him privately, as I am completing
this rotation during the summer and faculty members are not in the building.
By discussing the leadership team with administrators at LCHS, I found that the
principals like to sit back and hear the feedback and concerns of their faculty. They want to give
their faculty the chance to lead the school by making leadership decisions. Faculty members
feel empowered by being a part of the team and it seems like a strength of the school. The
leadership team members communicate the decisions with other faculty during PLCs each
week. Also, issues discussed during PLCs can be brought up during leadership team meetings
by the department
