The document describes a story being told by Mrs. Claus about how two elves created a magic top hat for Santa. A windstorm caused the hat to fly away and land in a town where the Christmas spirit was lacking. Two older siblings, Emily and Nora, made the younger siblings Kelly and Billy play outside in the snow while they talked on the phone with boys, saying they didn't care about Christmas or Santa. Kelly and Billy hoped the elves were watching to tell Santa about Emily and Nora's behavior.

FROSTY LAND

Mrs. Claus Enters with the story book for Frosty the Snowman

MRS CLAUS
Today boys and girls I have a Christmas
Story I’d like to tell you all. And
like most Christmas stories it begins
at the North Pole - home to Santa and
the elves and Christmas magic and me -
Mrs Claus. Oh before I begin, Santa
would like me to remind you that the
Christmas list elves are always watch-
ing - so be sure to be on your best be-
havior! Now, the story I’m going to
tell you today is one of my favorites,
Frosty the snow man.(Music starts) Now
I know most of you know that song and
don’t worry we’re all going to sing it
in just a little bit, but first - I
need to tell you the story. A story
that actually begins right here in the
North Pole and a couple of elves who
were given a very important assignment
from Santa! It was still a few weeks
till the big day and things were bus-
tling around here.

“Santa Claus is Comin to Town” (Sensa-

tions)

Two elves as if still talking to Santa backstage

ELF 1
Yessir Santa! One magic hat!

ELF 2
We should really as him what kind of
hat - I think that is a detail we
should have filled.
! 2

ELF 1
Santa, one more quick question - this
magic hat - what kind of hat should it
be?

SANTA
(offstage) Make it something classy!
Something you might wear for a night
out on the town or to the theatre!

ELF 1
Got big guy - I now exactly what you
mean!

ELF 2
You do?

ELF 1
Not a clue! - No idea what he’s talking
about - there are no theatres in the
north pole.

ELF 2
A night on the town? What town? There’s
no town here - just workshops.

ELF 1
None of that matters - the big guy,
Santa himself has asked that we create
a classy magic hat.

They begin to rummage in a box of hats.

ELF 2
(Stopping suddenly) I’ve got it! we’ll
make it a elf hat like the kind you
wear.

ELF 1
Please! we’re not classy and Santa said
classy.

ELF 2
That is true - you are not classy.

They continue rummaging

ELF 1
I’ve got it! (Pulls out a funny hat)
! 3

ELF 2
Mmmmmmm, looks a little . . . .

ELF 1
Ridiculous?

ELF 2
Sorry - Funny hat montage set to music?

ELF 1
Yes!

Funny hat montage with funny faces that ends with them tired and
covered in hats.

ELF 1
I think we’re out of ideas, I’ll tell
Santa. Hey, want to grab a bite to eat
over at Chez elf tonight?

ELF 2
Sure, let me grab my hat.

Picks up his hat - its the Frosty Top Hat.

ELF 1
Where did you get that hat!

ELF 2
My uncle the Magician elf.

ELF 1
That’s it! that’s the hat! Its so . . .

BOTH
Classy!!!!

They bound off stage happily.

MRS CLAUS
Having finally found the perfect hat
our elves took it to the Christmas
magic workshop where it was sprinkled
with a double dose of magic dust. They
were so happy on there way to deliver
it to Santa. Little did they know that
the old north wind had a different
plan.
! 4

Elves re-enter with now tarted up hat.

ELF 1
This hat is without a doubt the classi-
est looking hat Santa will have ever
laid eyes on!

ELF 2
I know right? I wonder why he needs it?
Maybe its for a secret mission he’s go-
ing to send you on.

ELF 1
Wow I never thought of that! Maybe he’s
sending me to spy on some kids he’s
putting on the naughty list and I’ll
need to be able to disappear!

ELF 2
oooooooh naughty kids, Once I had to
spy on some naughty kids in (Name of
Town we’re in) they were pretty bad!

ELF 1
How bad?

ELF 2
Unreturned Library books!

Just then the wind kicks up.

ELF 1
Wow wee! its a North Pole Wind Storm!

ELF 2
It blew in here out of nowhere!

They struggle against the wind as Mrs Claus appears.

MRS. CLAUS
Now believe it or not, this wind storm
didn’t exactly come out of nowhere,
This hat, this now magic hat, had to be
delivered right away to a town far from
here. Santa couldn’t wait for the elves
to deliver it, he needed to get it
there overnight, so it would be waiting
when, well, I’m ahead of myself. First
the hat.
! 5

ELF 1
This wind! I . . . can . . . barely . .
..stand

ELVES
Wooooooaaaahhhhhhhh

They go tumbling over as the hat flies out of their grasp.

ELF 2
Oh no! the hat!!!!!

They rush off stage after the hat.

MRS. CLAUS
No need to worry about that hat - it is
going to be just fine, and end up ex-
actly where it was meant to.

hat plops down from over the back drop.

MRS. CLAUS
Now, why was it so important that this
hat be delivered just when it was? They
answer is easy - its all about Christ-
mas Spirit. You see Santa and the elves
and all the toys and gifts they deliver
on Christmas Eve it all depends on
Christmas spirit. If there was no
Christmas Spirit - there’d be no
Christmas. And Christmas spirit, in
this town on the day our story takes
place? Was in serious need of some
help. Here, you’ll see what I mean.

Kids enter, two are younger and two are not.

EMILY
Now listen you two Mom says I have to
watch you while she goes shopping, but
as you know we have much better things
to do than watch you twerps, so stay
here and don’t get into trouble.

BILLY
What are we supposed to do outside?
! 6

KELLY
Its freezing! can’t we just play in-
side?

NORA
Twerps! listen to your sister! We have
boys to talk to on the phone!

KELLY
I’m telling mom!

EMILY
And then I will tell her who broke the
refridgerator door!

BILLY
That was an accident! We were playing
Narnia!

NORA
What a couple of goofballs! Emily come
on I told Phil and Zakk we were going
to be calling them right after school!

KELLY
This is not very nice! Its almost
Christmas! Who acts like this around
Christmas!

BILLY
The Elves are watching!

NORA
Elves! what geeky little twerp. ooooooh
maybe they’ll tell Santa!

EMILY
(mocking Kelly) Its Christmas!!!!! BOOO
HOOOOO! Who cares about Christmas!

NORA
Yea! who cares! Elves and Santa! what a
couple of little babies! Hope they
don’t hear me! Elves and Santa are for
twerpy little babies!

KELLY
You better watch what you’re saying or
Santa will put you on the naughty list!
! 7

NORA
Whatev, We have boys to talk to! On the
phone!

They exit.

KELLY
I can’t believe they are making us stay
out here in the snow! They don’t even
care about the naughty list!

BILLY
They are not very nice! I hope that the
elves are watching and that they tell
Santa what horsey face girls they are!

KELLY
Emily only acts like that when Nora is
around. oooooooh I can’t stand them!

BILLY
Wait! don’t say that. what if the elves
are watching us? We have to be nice and
make the best of this.

KELLY
How?

BILLY
Lets do something wintery!

KELLY
Like what!

BILLY
Well, we have lots of snow, lets do
something with it.

KELLY
Snow angels?

BILLY
Doing that will get our backs wet, and
since we can’t go in the house, we
could freeze to death.

KELLY
Right, ok then why not make . . . A
snowman!
! 8

BILLY
I guess, I mean what else is there?

Kids exit to get snowman.

MRS. CLAUS
See what I mean about the lack of
Christmas Spirit? So Kelly and Billy
went off to build their snowman.

They role him on

MRS. CLAUS
Excellent job children! He looks so
lifelike. So the snowman was built, but
the Christmas spirit was till not quite
there.

BILLY
Snowman done, now what?

KELLY
We can play with him?

BILLY
How?

KELLY
We could dance around him and sing
Christmas songs.

BILLY
MMMMMMM - no. But you know something? I
do not think this Snow man looks fin-
ished. Its missing something.

Emily and Nora enter.

KELLY
Are you two done?

BILLY
Can we go inside.

NORA/EMILY
No!
! 9

EMILY
Mom called and when I told her you two
were outside playing she go so happy
she ordered us outside to play too.

NORA
And then she called my mom, who told me
I had to go outside too and that she
was going to come over and check on us
randomly.

KELLY
Don’t you two have cell phones?

NORA
My stupid friend Pauline sat on mine.

EMILY
You know mom took mine.

BILLY
And why did she do that?

EMILY
(Mocking) Because you’re a little snot
who tattle tales on me when I sneak out
of the house!

They all start arguing

MRS CLAUS
Enough! Freeze! Dear me, there was ab-
solutely no Christmas spirit here at
all - Santa was right! And on top of
all that, Billy and Kelly were right -
The elves were watching (Elves appear)
Santa asked that they follow it and re-
port back to him with the hat when they
were sure that Christmas Spirit had
been restored! At this point it seemed
that might never happened, but then the
elves got an idea.

They unfreeze but are now arguing silently

ELF 1
Maybe they need the hat?
! 10

ELF 2
What?

ELF 1
The magic hat - maybe thats why it was
blown here.

ELF 2
Do magic hats silence annoying teenag-
ers? if so we need to let all parents
know!

ELF 1
Its worth a shot!

Picks up the hat and tosses it so that it lands in front of the

arguing group.

BILLY
That’s it!

EVERYONE ELSE
What?

BILLY
That hat! That’s what he’s missing.

EMILY
What who’s missing?

NORA
Forget them, come on, I know my mother,
she won’t check on us right now - Judge
Judy is on - she will not miss Judge
Judy.

Billy picks up the hat.

KELLY
You’re right! and Judge Judy is on at 3
its only 2. Check your watch.

NORA
I did! Ohhhhhhh! stupid Daylight sav-
ings! That’s why I’ve been early to
everything for past month.

BILLY
This is a magic hat, I can feel it!
! 11

KELLY
Em, will you put it on his head?

EMILY
Its a waste of a perfectly cool hat,
but whatever.

NORA
I would look so good in that hat, let
me try it on first!

She does

KELLY/ BILLY
NOOOOO!

BILLY
Its supposed to go on the snowman!

NORA
Chill spazilla, Its too big anyway,
here.

She tosses it to Emily

EMILY
Okay, snow dude, here’s your new hat!

Puts it on his head and they all turn DS away from Frosty so as
to not notice him coming to life. Emily is arguing with Kelly
and Billy during the following.

EMILY
There, now in return you will be a
lookout for Nora’s mom so we can go
back inside.

KELLY/ BILLY
No way!

Magic sounds - then he comes to life.

FROSTY
Happy Birthday!

NORA
Its not my birthday.
! 12

EMILY
I know, now twerps - you have to let us
know is-

FROSTY
Happy Birthday!

NORA
I said its not my birthday.

EMILY
Why do you keep saying that?

NORA
Because someone keeps wishing me Happy
birthday!

FROSTY
Happy Birthday!

NORA
Thank you but its in August!

KELLY
Wait, I heard that too.

FROSTY
Happy Birthday

EMILY/ BILLY
Me too!

EMILY
Who said that?!

FROSTY
I think it was me!

They slowly turn and Frosty sheepishly waves at them, they

quickly turn back.

EMILY
We didn’t see that right? None of us
saw that.

KELLY
Saw what?
! 13

NORA
The talking snowman waving at us and
smiling like a moron? No we did not see
that.

BILLY
I saw it and it was awesome!

Elves peek out.

ELF 1
Wow, didn’t see that coming.

ELF 2
So wait, this is what the hat was sup-
posed to be used for?

ELF 1
I guess so.

ELF 2
What do we do now?

ELF 1
Observe and report and then bring the
hat home when the Christmas spirit is
restored.

ELF 2
I live at the north pole and make toys
all year, and yet this seems weird.

EMILY
Okay - on the count of 3 we turn around
and the talking snowman will not be
real. 1,2,3

They all turn

FROSTY
Happy Birthday!!!!!!

They all scream and run around.

KELLY
Why does he keep saying that?

NORA
I know! I said it was not my birthday!
! 14

FROSTY
I have no idea why I keep saying that,
I have no idea why I keep saying any-
thing! in fact I don’t even know why
I’m alive. But I am!

EMILY
I am officially blaming this all on you
two.

KELLY/BILLY
Why!?

EMILY
You made him! Ask him what he is?

Billy and Kelly approach Frosty warily.

KELLY
Hi there snowman - are you snowman? or
are you - uh . . .

BILLY
What’s your name!

FROSTY
I don’t why - but I think its Frosty!
Yea, Frosty the Snowman!

KELLY
Is there anything else you can do?

FROSTY
I think so - I can talk and I can count
to ten. 1,2,3,4,5,7,6,10,8 - well I can
count to 5 and I can hop on one leg and
I can -

NORA
At least he can’t walk.

FROSTY
(Starts to walk around) I can walk!

BILLY
Cool! a walking snowman.

FROSTY
I think I can do more than that!
! 15

NORA
Oh no! I feel a musical number coming
on.

FROSTY
I can sing!

Frosty the snowman was a jolly happy soul

With a corncob pipe and a button nose
and two eyes made out of coal.

All Join him:

Frosty the snowman is a fairy tale they say
He was made of snow but the children
know how he came to life one day.

EMILY
Wait, wait, stop the music, How did you
come to life?

KELLY
Clearly it was the hat that did it.

NORA
What?

KELLY
We put the hat on the snowman and just
like that he started talking!

EMILY
Lets ask the snowman!

FROSTY
Well I was not here one minute than the
next I was.

EMILY
You don’t remember being here before we
put the hat on you?

FROSTY
No - what’s a hat.

BILLY
There must have been some magic in that
old silk hat they found
For when they placed it on his head
he began to dance around.
! 16

ALL
O Frosty the snowman
was alive as he could be
And the children say he could laugh
and play just the same as you and me.

They dance around as the music continues.

NORA
This is terribly weird, but I am actu-
ally enjoying this.

EMILY
Oh good! I thought I was the only one
and I was going to feel like a nerd.

ELF 1
(Appearing) Its Working!

ELF 2
The Christmas Spirit? Great lets get
the hat and go home.

They sneak and steal Frosty’s hat, he stops moving music stops.

BILLY
What happened!?

KELLY
Who took Frosty’s hat?

NORA
Maybe the wind took it who cares, Emily
I’m going in to call Josh!

EMILY
What about your Mom?

KELLY
Uhh Hello - What about the talking
snowman? And his hat that just disap-
peared?

EMILY
Kelly - the grown-ups are talking. I am
calling Trevor before you call Josh!
! 17

BILLY
I’m going inside.

NORA
No twerp - you’re not!

EMILY
Billy - you’re staying out here.

BILLY
But I have to go Number 1!

NORA
Do it in the bushes.

BILLY
Okay (Starts off)

KELLY
Billy - stay - Emily do you mean to say
you’ve forgotten all the singing and
dancing and talking snowman?

NORA/EMILY
Whatever.

KELLY
Merry Christmas to you too!

They argue until the elf speaks then the argument goes silent.

Elves Reappear.

ELF 1
Oh no! We were too early.

ELF 2
Wow the Christmas Spirit disappeared
quick! What should we do?

ELF 1
The magic hat’s job is not yet done!

Elf 2 goes and sneaks it back on to Frosty, argument comes back

to life.

FROSTY
Happy Birthday!
! 18

Music Starts.

NORA
Why do I keep feeling so (Disgusted)
Christmasy!

EMILY
I know what you mean - I felling like
. . .Hugging my brother and sister!
MAKE IT STOP!

FROSTY
Stop? Stop what? Singing and dancing?

BILLY/KELLY
Never!

Music Starts

ALL
Thumpetty thump thump
thumpety thump thump
Look at Frosty go
Thumpetty thump thump
thumpety thump thump
Over the hills of snow

FROSTY
What do we want to do? Its a beautiful
Day and its almost Christmas. Do we
want to do snow angels? or have a pa-
rade? or just sing and dance.

EMILY
I can’t believe I’m saying this - but I
want to do it all. I haven’t felt like
this about Christmas since I was a lit-
tle girl.

NORA
I have to write my letter to Santa! Its
late!

FROSTY
Plenty of time for that, lets have some
fun!
! 19

Mrs Claus Enters.

MRS CLAUS
Frosty’s magic hat was working its
spell and the Christmas Spirit was
alive and well. But Snowmen don’t last
forever, and if the Christmas Spirit
was to be a alive and well Frosty would
have to make sure those children were
filled to the brim with it before the
sun came and frosty had to go.

Frosty the snowman knew

the sun was hot that day
So he said "Let's run and
we'll have some fun
now before I melt away."

Down to the village

with a broomstick in his hand
Running here and there all
around the square saying
Catch me if you can.

Frosty and the children ran and played

and spread the Christmas spirit near
and far. The elves followed closely and
watched with glee as their magic hat
helped Frosty dance and sing all around
the town.

FROSTY
Come on kids! Lets play follow the leader.
He led them down the streets of town
right to the traffic cop
And he only paused a moment when
he heard him holler "Stop!"

All come to a halt.

FROSTY
Oh no! Its just what I thought!

ALL
What?
! 20

FROSTY
The thermometer is red. When the ther-
mometer is red, the temperature goes
up. When the temperature goes up I
start to melt and when I start to melt
- I get all wishy washy.

EMILY
What should we do?

FROSTY
I need to get someplace cold - like the
North Pole.

NORA
Well then we have to get you there.

KELLY
(Sneezes) Wherever you need to go
Frosty - We’ll help.

BILLY
Are you okay, you don’t sound good.

KELLY
I’m fine, Let’s figure out how we’re
going to help Frosty.

NORA
We could take a bus, or ask my mom?

KELLY
Its too far, we need to buy tickets for
the North Pole Express!

EMILY
That would cost like a million dollars,
but maybe we could sneak into one of
the refridgerator cars that carry fro-
zen food.

BILLY
We’re going to be hobos! Yes!

Train whistle blows

! 21

NORA
I’m not sure why I know this, but I
think thats the whistle for the 4:15 to
all places North - we gotta hurry

They exit running, Kelly and Billy linger

KELLY
Achoo!

BILLY
Are you sure you’re ok?

KELLY
I’m fine! Lets run, we gotta get Frosty
some place cold!

They exit

MRS. CLAUS
Things had certainly changed for those
children. A couple of hours ago they
could have cared less about anyone else
but themselves, and now look at them -
doing all they can to help their new
friend Frosty. It seems as if the
Christmas Spirit was working miracles!
They found the refrigerated train car
and rode it all the way to the last
stop - The north Pole.

ELF 1
I can’t believe it! If this isn’t proof
of the Christmas spirit I don’t know
what is!

ELF 2
I know, they came all the way to the
North Pole just to save Frosty. Do you
think that’s it? Is this what Santa
wanted?

ELF 1
I don’t know, lets see what happens -
hide!

They hide as the kids,(minus Nora) and Frosty enter.

! 22

KELLY
Achoo!

FROSTY
Gee Kelly, that doesn’t sound so good.

KELLY
I’m fine, are you feeling better?

FROSTY
I must say I don’t remember much since
I was only born today, but I’ve never
felt better!

EMILY
Where’s Nora?

NORA
(Entering, she is very cold) Wow Wee
its cold! I mean, wow! Cold! Freezing!
Still feeling very happy for no reason,
but I’m freezing!!!!

FROSTY
You just need to get moving! Lets all
go Ice skating! I don’t know why but I
think there’s a skating pond just over
the hill!

KELLY
Achoo! You all go, I’m going to stay
here, I don’t feel so well.

BILLY
I thought you said you were fine?

KELLY
I know, but I was lying.

EMILY
(Feels her head) She’s burning up. Why?
Why would you lie if you were feeling
sick?

KELLY
We had to save Frosty, we just had to!
If we didn’t then the magic would go
away!
! 23

EMILY
What magic? What are you talking about?

KELLY
Achoo! Ever since Frosty showed up
you’ve been different, you’ve been nice
to us. Its like ever since Frosty
showed up, you’ve been like you used to
be, before you got all cool and started
calling us Twerps and only thinking
about boys! If Frosty melted, I was
afraid it would all change.

There is a moment and then

NORA
WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA! I’m sooooo Sorry!
(Hugs her)

KELLY
Thanks Nora, but I was talking to my
sister.

NORA
Right, Sorry, but what you said was so
beautiful!

EMILY
I’m really sorry you guys, I’ll always
be your big sister, and I’ll never act
like such a jerk again, even when we go
home.

KELLY
Achoo!

BILLY
She’s really sick, what are we going to
do?

They Hug

FROSTY
I gotta tell you I might only be a few
hours old, but I think I know what to
do. Follow me everyone.

They all exit as Mrs Claus appears.

! 24

MRS CLAUS
Frosty led the children over the next
hill, past the skating pond to a green-
house that the elves used to grow pon-
settias, mine and Santa’s favorite
flower. These plants are very delicate
and need a warm place to grow. The tem-
perature inside was well over 75 de-
grees, perfect for sick little girls
but not for snowmen. Frosty picked up
Kelly and ran ahead of the others so
that he could get her warmed up as soon
as possible. Little kelly was so sick
that on the way there she passed out.
When they arrived Frosty took her in-
side, laid her down and waited for her
to wake up and feel better.

They enter, he is carrying her, he lays her down

FROSTY
Gee, it sure is hot in here, I would
go, but what if you woke up and you
were all alone? I wouldn’t like waking
up all alone. When I woke up you were
all there and we played and did fun
things and had a parade.I know its hot
and I should leave, but I don’t want to
leave you Kelly. Oh see, when I melt I
get all wishy washy. Uh oh - I think I
should lie down, I’m feeling allllll
wet!

Lays down behind Screen and ‘melts’ leaving only his hat. The
rest of the kids enter.

BILLY
That is one really fast snowman, Kelly!

They rush to her as she’s waking up.

EMILY
Her fever’s broken, Kelly are you ok?

KELLY
I’m fine, its so warm in here, where’s
Frosty? Frosty!!!!
! 25

They all get up and search for Frosty calling his name, finally
Billy finds his hat.

BILLY
Guys, I think he’s gone.

Brings the hat down to Kelly, she hugs it and starts to cry.
they all comfort her.

NORA
Frosty!!!!! Oh Frosty! you big crazy
snowman - I loved you!!!!

Elves appear

ELF 1
That was it! That was the thing Santa
was waiting for.

ELF 2
I don’t get it.

ELF 1
They all had such Christmas Spirit that
it rubbed off on Frosty too. The
Christmas spirit is alive and well

Mrs Claus Enters

MRS CLAUS
Now children, what is all this crying
about?

EMILY
Are you? No, I mean we’re at the North
pole but, are you?

MRS C
Yes dear, I’m Mrs Claus.

BILLY
This is really the greatest day
ever!!!!!

NORA
Look at first glance I know I may look
like I should be on the naughty list,
But I’ve changed!! (Throws herself at
her feet) Changed I tell you!!
! 26

MRS C
Yes dear, I’ll let him know. Now Kelly
don’t you be sad, you helped do some-
thing very important, you showed Santa
that the Christmas Spirit was still
alive! All of you put away the things
that distract us everyday and put one
another first. In fact you were all so
filled with the Christmas spirit you
gave it to Frosty as well. And besides,
Frosty isn’t gone.

ALL
He isn’t?

MRS C
Of course not, Frosty was made out of
Christmas snow, which means he’s never
really gone, In fact if I can borrow
that hat I think there is someone who’d
like to see you all.

Takes hat offstage and a moment later

FROSTY
Happy Birthday everyone!

He enters and is mauled with hugs as the last part of the Sensa-
