EMCH 361 Student Expectations

Class Attendance
Students must attend class (class role may be taken)
Requirements for lab report
(strict format - will be explained later)

Lab Attendance
Students must attend all scheduled laboratory sessions, sign the
attendance sheet and complete all assignments. Failure to do so
will result in being assigned a grade of “Incomplete” for the
course. Emergencies must be handled on a case-by-case basis
by Dr. Chao (not a lab instructor).

11
Behavior in the Lab
In the lab be aware of equipment safety and people working around you.
Equipment will be ready when you enter the lab. If you need additional
equipment, please let the lab instructor know this. If equipment breaks
down or does not function properly, please inform the lab instructor.
Report ANY injuries to the lab instructor immediately. Any unsafe or
deliberately harmful act can result in loss of grade and dismissal from
the lab.

Turning in Reports
Reports are due at times specified. Usually, lab reports will be due on
Monday in the following week of the lab and collected in class. If the
report is not handed in on time, it is late. Points are taken as follows:
Up to 24 hours from the due date, 10 %
24 to 48 hours from the due date, 20 %

Any kind of late reports cannot be accepted if the graded reports have
already been returned to the students.

It is your responsibility to make sure the report is turned in and graded in

time.
Plagiarism on any assignment will result in a grade of zero on the
assignment and subjected to additional university disciplines. 12
EMCH
Expectations for a Positive Learning Environment and Culture

E—Engage in the learning process

 attend class
 arrive on time
 leave on time/when class is over
 stay actively focused on what is being taught/discussed

M—Make every effort to be a positive learner

 focus attention on lecture/discussion
 electronic devices/activities (laptops, texting, facebooking, etc.) should only be
used if part of class
 avoid reading newspapers and other non-course related material

C—Come to each class prepared to learn

 stay current with homework and other assignments
 avoid doing homework for other classes while in class
 don’t have distracting conversations

H—Have fun and be an active learner

 learn to listen and listen to learn
 actively participate in discussions
 ask proper/appropriate questions (i.e., don’t encroach on valuable class time with
questions that require a lengthy answer)

EXCEPTIONS should be addressed and resolved in a timely fashion with a conversation

between professor and student.

See http://www.sc.edu/cte/guide/syllabus/statements.shtml#classroombehavior for 13
