Activity 1

Analyze the given example in your small groups, then answer the ff. questions:

1. Which of the philosophy studied in lesson 1 are reflected in the given philosophy?

Answer: Existentialism, Progressivism, Essentialism, and Perennialism reflects in the given

philosophy.

2. What are the teacher’s concept/s of the learners?

Answer: The teacher’s concept/s of the child learners are the ff.

First, every child has a natural interest in learning and is capable of learning. Second, a child is

an embodied spirit. Next, can be influenced but not totally by his/her environment. Then, the

child is unique and so comparing a child to other children has no basis. Lastly, every child does

not have an empty mind, rather is full of ideas and it is the teacher’s task to draw out those

ideas.

3. Who, according to the grade school teacher’s philosophy is the good and educated person?

Answer: A good and educated person according to the grade school teacher’s philosophy are

those who consistently practiced good values to serve as a model for every child through

hands-on-minds-on-hearts-on experiences inside and outside the classroom.


4. What is the teacher’s concept of values?

Answer: Respect, love, honesty and care for others, regardless of their race, ethnicity,

nationality, appearance and economic status

5. What does the teacher believe to be her primary task?

Answer: It is the teacher’s task to facilitate the development of every child to the optimum and

maximum of his/her capacity.

6. Do her concepts of the learner and the educated person match with how he/she will go

about his/her task of facilitating every child’s full development?

Answer: Yes. The concepts of the learner and the educated person actually matched with how

he/she will go about his/her task of facilitating every child’s full development.

7. You notice that the teacher’s thought on the learner, values and method of teaching begin

with the phrases “I believe”. Will it make a difference if the Grade school teacher wrote his/her

philosophy of education in paragraph form using the third person pronoun?

Answer: Yes, it will actually make a difference to the learners if the Grade school teacher uses

third person pronoun. It is best to state the philosophies of education using the phrases “I

believe” since it is best to state it in a concrete not in the abstract because it is the teacher’s

blue print to daily life.

8. Why is one’s philosophy of education said to be one’s “window” to the world and “compass”

to life?
Answer: It is because the philosophy of education is reflected in dealing with students, parents,

colleagues and administrator. Also, our attitude towards problems and life as whole has an

underlying philosophy.

Activity 2

Formulate your personal philosophy of education. Do it well for this will form part of your

teaching portfolio which you will bring along with you when you apply for a teaching job.

My Philosophy of Education as A Teacher

I believe every child

 are unique and have something special that they can bring to their own education

 must have a stimulating educational environment where they can grow physically,

mentally, emotionally, and socially

 should be able to have choices and let their curiosity direct their learning

I believe that my task as a teacher is to facilitate the development of every child to the

optimum and to the maximum by:

 providing a safe environment where students are invited to share their ideas and take

risks

 creating the type of atmosphere where students can meet their full potential

 acting as a guide/role model


 assisting my students to express themselves and accept themselves for who they are, as

well embrace the differences of others

 using strategies to ensure our classroom community will flourish, like the morning

meeting, positive vs. negative discipline, classroom jobs, and problem-solving skills

 incorporating technology to have wide option of learning and teaching method

 teaching students with kindness, passion and enthusiasm

 building rapport with my students in and out of the class.

 giving my students responsibilities like tidying up or decorating the classroom so they

could feel that I trust them

 teaching them the love for family, accepting mistakes and forgiveness.

 imparting my knowledge and also my principles that could inspire them to love learning

and continue to dream.

Activity 3

A. reflect on your own philosophy using the following questions as guide:

1. With that educational philosophy:

 How will you treat your student?

=I will treat my students as how I treat the people around me. I will show

to them my love for the profession I choose and respect them on how they

deserve to be respected.
 What will you teach them?

= I will teach them the scientific way of thinking, help them develop

problem solving skills, and also, I will teach them how to be respectful, to

be honest, and to have a good manners and right conduct.

 How will you teach?

=I will encourage them to participate and make them have fun while

doing activities in the class. But most importantly, our goal as a teacher is

to inspire our students to love learning.

2. From which philosophies that you have studied and researched did you draw

inspiration as you formulated your own philosophy of education?

Answer: Those philosophies mentioned above are the reason why I can formulate my

own philosophy of education.

3. Does this education philosophy of yours make a difference in your life?

Answer: Yes. I am now able to know my purpose as a future teacher and what should I

do to become effective in my teaching career.

4. What if you do not have a formulated philosophy of education at all?

Answer: If I did not formulate my philosophy of education, I wouldn’t know on what to

do and how to become an effective teacher.


5. Is your educational philosophy more of an abstract theory than blueprint to daily

living?

Answer: My educational philosophy is blueprint to daily living than abstract theory

because I stated it with conviction and is concrete.

6. Do you think your philosophy will change as you grow in knowledge?

Answer: I believe that my philosophy will change as I grow in knowledge and it’s okay.

That just means that I have grown as a person and learned new things.
