SUBMISSION NUMBER 3
1. Read this poem “You Are a Teacher” then, answer the following questions.
a. Which line of the poem do you like most? Why?
- Every line used on this poem reminds me of the whole chapter on the bible
verse 1 Corinthians 13. Most of its line is the same on the bible verse and this
chapter is often quoted for love. On the Bible, Paul recognizes the importance
of the spiritual gifts and their place in the Christian’s life, he tells that there is
something superior to these gifts. Because of this fact, I like the whole poem.
Because without love all other gifts have little value. So, if you connect it on
the profession the poem has been trying to portray is basically telling that love
is not just a word we say, but an attitude that we have towards others the way it
expresses, the feelings are produce through the actions.
b. What mental portrait of the teacher in the classroom and the teacher in the community
is painted by the poem, “You Are a Teacher”?
- The mental portrait of the teacher in the classroom and community painted on
the poem is that if a teacher is just teaching thinking it was just a job and not
her vocation to teach, then it won’t work. To both the student and the educator.
I showed a lot of examples and scenarios we all can relate to. Each line shows
that compassion (referring to love) on work is essential. For love is the greatest
out of all the mentioned traits.
2. Read your name through the poem like this: Joan, You are a Teacher: If
Joan speaks interestingly, effectively and well
But does not understand her students Joan is a
noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.
Read until “it is not resentful.”
How did you feel when you read your name through the lines of the poem? Describe and
explain why.
ANSWER:
- When reading my name through the lines of the poem it felt like I was really the
person being described. Love must be mixed in with all the traits. It specifically
mentions the traits of tongues, knowledge, faith and giving. These traits can’t
accomplish their purpose without the supremacy of love. Love is preeminent that
gives a succinct explanation of love that describes many of its attributes. From the
verses we see what love is and isn’t, or what love does and doesn’t do. Love can be
shown in different aspects even in work. You can’t make someone else have these
qualities of love, but you can make a personal choice in your attitude toward them. It
is like an attribute that can be adapted to use on others.
3. This is how one describes professionalism:
"You have to perform at a consistently higher level than others. That's the mark of a true
professional. Professionalism has nothing to do with getting paid for your services."
State professionalism in a sentence by stating one concrete act of professionalism.
e.g. Professionalism is doing my work to the best of my ability even when nobody is
looking.
4. Of the personal attributes of a professional teacher, which do you have most? Which should
you develop more?
- I haven’t really tried student teaching though I have tried reporting in a class and
acting as teacher. During those experiences, I might say I have the attribute of;
- The attributes I want to develop more because I feel like I haven’t really showed it or
applied it on my teaching experience are:
1. Hold High Expectations because I felt like that there are some student who
probably won’t listen and won’t understand so I kind of underestimated their
understanding capabilities, which is awful by the way and should not happen
again.
2. Fair because I haven’t really tried grading them, so I want to experience it and
learn it.
3. Creative, I believe I was doing my typical presentation and I can see that they
were bored of me.
4. Cultivate a sense of belonging, there are times that there are other students
from other course in certain subject and when I tried teaching I kind of feel
like I haven’t done this because I was only focusing my attention on my
classmates when talking.
5. Sense of humor is something that I don’t have and want to have so I could
lighten up the whole class’s mood.
