Methodology and importance; Factor affecting oxygen transfer rate
Module II : Stoichiometric Analysis 25
Stoichiometry of microbial growth and product formation; Elemental balances; degree of reduction of substrate and biomass, Yield
coefficients of biomass and product formation, maintenance coefficients, Energetic analysis of microbial growth and product formation;
thermodynamic efficiency of growth. Prediction of Yield coefficient
Module III : Reaction Kinetics 20
Reaction kinetics for biological systems- Michaelis Menten kinetics, enzyme deactivation kinetics; heterogenous reactions in
bioprocessing- concentration gradients and reaction rates in solid catalysts.
Module IV : Downstream Processing 30
Recovery and purification of products; Strategies to recover and purify products; filtration; Sedimentation; Centrifugation; Cell
Disruption; Extraction; Membrane Separation; Chromatography; Crystaliztion; Drying
Module V : Applications 10
Examples of Aerobic and Anaerobic Bioprocesses
