Calculations From Chemical Equations Worksheet: © All Rights Reserved Alrick Moodie January 2007

This document provides 5 chemistry problems involving calculating masses or volumes of substances produced from chemical reactions using balanced chemical equations. The problems involve reactions such as copper oxide reacting with hydrogen gas to produce copper and water, sodium hydroxide reacting with carbonic acid to produce sodium carbonate and water, and thermite reactions producing iron from aluminum and iron oxide.

Calculations from Chemical Equations Worksheet

1. What mass of copper would be produced when 4 g of copper oxide reacts with 0.16 g
of hydrogen gas according to the equation :
CuO (s) + H2 (g)  Cu (s) + H2O (g)

2. What mass of sodium carbonate is produced when 50 cm 3 of 0.5 molar carbonic acid
reacts with 1.6 g of sodium hydroxide ?
H2CO3 (aq) + NaOH (s)  Na2CO3 (aq) + H2O (l)

3. What volume of oxygen gas at r.t.p. would be produced by the thermal decomposition
of 10 g of potassium chlorate ?
KClO3 (s)  KCl (s) + O2 (g)

4. The thermite reaction ,

Al (s) + Fe3O4 (s)  Fe (l) + Al2O3 (s)
What mass of iron is produced when 1.8 g of aluminium reacts with 15 g of iron oxide?

5. NH3 (g) + O2 (g)  NO (g) + H2O (g)

What volumes of ammonia and oxygen at r.t.p. is needed to make 0.05 moles of
nitrous oxide ?
