Investigation of Fracture Properties Using Small Punch Test: 4th Doctoral Progress Review

This document summarizes the 4th doctoral progress review of Mr. PRUTHVISHKUMAR PATEL. He is investigating the fracture properties of materials using small punch testing. In the past semester, he refined his research gap and objectives, conducted a literature review on recent developments, and formulated a research plan. He has begun establishing a reliable FEA methodology to simulate the impact of key variables on small punch tests. Going forward, he will conduct numerical tests, validate results experimentally, correlate numerical and experimental findings, and work to estimate stress-strain behavior from small punch test data.

3) Justify the selection of parameters based in literature review.

 Small punch test techniques has been used since 1980 primarily to evaluate the
degraded material strength under in-service component for irradiation application.
 Reseracher so far have investigated the impact due to variation in geometry, process
& measurement and it’s well documented.
 Reserachers has also extended the scope of SPT for strength evalaution of non-
irradiated materials and applications.
 But still the scope exists to investigate the viability of traditional industrial materials
strength evalution using SPT for non-irradiated application.
