Reversing Mechanism

Dear Sirs,

We have in 3 cases received reports about working loose of screws for bearing for
reversing crank in hub for reversing mechanism.

During normal service of the engine the mentioned screws are not heavily loaded
as most of the force is being absorbed by the recess in the bearing.

Probably the reason why the screws are working loose is due to the fact that they
are not sufficiently tightened and carefully secured, possibly in connection with
abnormal large vibrations for instance from a slack chain.
We therefore suggest that these screws be inspected at suitable intervals and that
they are re-tightened with a tightening-up torque of 442 Nm (45 kgm), as shown
on enclosed section of plate 81517(07).

Yours faithfully,
