Introduction
The conducted experiment aims to construct a Voltage-Follower amplifier
circuit and studying its characteristics.
Equipment
• Capacitors
• Resistors
• Function Generator
• Oscilloscope
• BNC Cables
• Breadboard
Theory
One of the basic configurations of the BJT transistor is a common collector
configuration (also called emitter follower). The input signal is applied to its
base terminal, the output is taken from the emitter terminal and the collector
terminal are common to both base and emitter terminals.

The characteristics of Voltage-Follower amplifier are:
Procedure
1. Connect the circuit as shown bellow:
2. Connect the output and input signals to the oscilloscope and calculate
the voltage gain and determine the phase shift between the input and
output.
2
3. Measure the base voltage in order to calculate the input impedance.
4. Remove the load resistor and measure the no load output signal and
calculate the output impedance.
Results
vo = 1.88 V
vi = 2.00 V
vb = 1.84 V
vo 1.88 V
Av = = = 0.94
vi 2 V
3
By substituting in equation 2 we have:
vb RS 40480
Zin = = = 253 kΩ
vS − vb 0.16
From equation 3 the output impedance is:
vF L − vN L 0.04
Zout = vF L = = 4.6 kΩ
RL
8.7 ∗ 10− 6
Parameter Value
vi 2.00 V
vb 1.84 V
vo 1.88 V
Av 0.94 VV
Zin 253 kΩ
Zout 4.6 kΩ
Conclusion
The results of the experiment shows that the Voltage-Follower amplifier
has a high input impedance, low output impedance and a zero phase shift
between the input and output signals. In additional, the voltage gain is
almost unity which means that the difference between the input and output
voltages is quit small and can be considered zero.
