 Since, we have already discussed about giving


the place value of each digit in a 3- digit
number. I hope that you have learned to read
and write 3- digit numbers in symbols and in
words and now familiarize yourself to another
way of writing numbers.
- In 576, how many hundreds are there;
- How many tens are there? - 500 or 5 hundreds
- How many ones; - 7 tens or 70 tens
- And what is the value of 6; - 6 ones or 6

 The number 576 maybe written in this


way:
 576= 5= hundreds, 7 tens, 6 ones
- It can also be written as:
500 + 70 + 6 = 576

• Write them in the place value chart. And write


them in expanded form.

2. Performing the Activities


In writing numbers in expanded form we are
expressing the number as the sum of the values of
its digit.

groups. Each group will be given a different
activity sheet. After answering every group

5. Generalization

- How do you write numbers in expanded form? And how do you write numbers?
Ans. writing a number in expanded form is expressing the number as the sum of the
values of its digits.
+ The expanded form give the value of each digit in a number.

6. Application

Illustration of a big mango tree. Prepare of cut- outs of mango fruits with a 3-
digits numbers on each fruit. Attach this to these to drawing and let the students
harvest the fruits. Then students will be going to model the numbers, write them
sin expanded form and identifying its value.
