Q1.
a) State the essential and desirable conditions of parallel operation of polyphase
transformers. Explain the term polarity in this context. (CO2)
b) Draw the terminal connection and phasor diagram of Yd1, Dd0, Dy11 with
suitable explanation. (CO3)
c) Show that by changing the phase sequence 1 group of transformers can be
converted to 11 group of transformers and vice versa. (CO3)

a) What is a Scott connected transformer and why it is required? (CO2)
b) Show that the primary number of turns of teaser transformer is 86.6% that of main
transformer. (CO4)
c) A balance 3 phase current will be drawn for a balance two phase load and vice-
versa - justify the statement with suitable current and voltage phasor. (CO4)

a) Describe the operating principle of a single phase transformer and derive its
voltage equation. (CO1)
b) Draw the phasor diagram of a single phase transformer for an inductive load and

b) Derive the expressions for power sharing by the two transformers of different per
unit impedance when they are connected in parallel. (CO3)
c) Define per unit resistance, per unit reactance and per unit impedance of a

a) Explain the building up of a self-excited DC shunt generator. (CO1)
b) Draw and explain the magnetizing and load characteristics of a separately excited
DC generator. (CO1)
c) Explain armature reaction of a DC Machine with a suitable diagram and write the
effects the armature reaction. (CO1)

b) Sketch and explain the speed-armature current and speed-torque characteristic of
