1. WRITE YOUR OWN DEFINITION OF CURRICULUM LEADERSHIPS.
Curriculum leaderships is involves a careful balance of instructional and administrative leadership responsibilities. The role is multi-faceted and complex, embedded not only in the formal trappings of authority (as supervisors of faculty) but also in function that cut across a numbers of accountability and curriculum development. And the most effective curriculum leader embrace the dynamic role and go beyond to the expected responsibilities. They establish new direction , align people and resources, motivate participants and aid school improvement processes.
Moreover, Curriculum leader could be the principal at a school who guides
the teaching and learning at his or her school or could be the Department head that plans the course of study for a subject. A curriculum leader could be the curriculum director in a district who guides the teaching and learning within a school district by defining the district educational goals, learning objectives and curriculum taught to students. Curriculum leaders also provide the vision for the teaching and learning that takes place within a school or district. As lifelong learners, they seek professional development opportunities and are knowledgeable of current trends in curriculum and education with the goal of improving student learning in mind. Curriculum leaders also plan and create professional development opportunities providing teachers opportunities to improve their teaching practice and knowledge whether this is through activities such as stidy groups, book studies , daylong events or ongoing professional development covering a certain area such as math or reading curriculum.
Curriculum leaderships is important because it focusing on learning,
teaching and monitoring progress, curriculum leaders help educators to improve their instructional practices and ensure student achievement improves as a result of meaningful, supportive decisions about pedagogy, coursework and instructional materials. Furthermore, Curriculum leaderships provides leaderships to ensure systematic innovation in curriculum design, systematic innovation in teaching and learning practices, management of people and relationships, management of resources, management of information , continuous improvement through reflective practice. 2. Identify roles of teachers as curriculum leaders that you observed from teachers in your school. Curriculum leaders perform important task such as foster a collaborative culture, Use research to improve practice and students learning, Promote professional learning, Facilitate improvements in instruction and students learnings, Promote the use of assessment and data, Improve outreach and collaboration with families and the community and Advocate for students learning and the profession Develop appropriate curriculum for students, Evaluate curriculum materials ans the implementation of the curriculum, Facilitate activities to ensure public understanding of every single curriculum reform, Gather important data needed for curriculum planning , Innovate curriculum and instructions, Know every learner needs , issue and interest , Manage curriculum implementation and curriculum change, Nurture creativity and critical thinking in the curriculum, Orient teachers , students , parents and other takeholder on the new curriculum, Provide updated knowledge on the subject they teach, Qualify acceptable curriculum ideas and theories, Reflect on different researches that influence the curriculum, Select appropriate instructional strategies, methods and approaches, Train teachers who will implement the curriculum, Understand implication of social issues and social changes in the curriculum, Validate the contents of the curriculum. Teachers as a curriculum leaders have a huge role to fill in our schools and community that leaves a lot of responsibilities open to interpretation. They must use their best discretion to promote and advocate ways that benefits students , teachers, schools and families.
