Perform the Fundamental Dance Steps.

Feet Position

1st Position- Heels together, toes apart with an angle of 45 degrees.


2nd Position-Astride sideward of about pace or 1-foot distance.
3rd Position– Heels of one foot close to the in- step of the other foot.
4th Position-One foot in front of the other about a pace distance.
5th Position – Heel of Front close to the big toe of the rear foot.

Hands Position

1st position- raise arms to a circle in front of the chest.


2nd position – open up arms sideward, raised below shoulder level with a graceful
curve
3rd position – raise one arm overhead while other arm remains in 2nd position
4th position – raise one arm in front of chest in a half circle, while one arm remains
overhead
5th position – raise both arms overhead in a graceful curve

MOVEMENTS/STEPS PARTICULAR TO DANCE:

There are no definite directions, sequence of figures, number and kinds of steps,
hand movements and positions used when performed by the natives. For teaching
purposes, the figures of this dance may be created, and dancers may form their own
combinations.

ACTIVITY 1. Execution
In this activity, you are going to execute the basic steps of Pangalay.

• Slide 2/4 or 3/4 : Right (L) foot in second position (ct. 1), Close L
and R to R and L foot in
first position (ct. 2). This may be done in any
direction.
• Change step 2/4 : Step R (L) foot forward (fourth in front) (ct. 1),
step L (R) close to R (L) foot in third
In rear or in first position (ct. and), step R (L) foot
quickly in fourth in front (ct. 2).

• Mincing 2/4 or 3/4 : R (L) foot in 5th position in front, heels slightly
