Biliran Province State University ISO 9001: 2015 CERTIFIED: Republic of The Philippines

The document is a worksheet for a course on anatomy and physiology of the reproductive system. It contains multiple choice and matching questions to test understanding of key terms and structures related to both the male and female reproductive systems. Students are asked to label diagrams of the male and female reproductive systems, define terms, explain functions of structures and hormones, and describe conditions like endometriosis that involve abnormal growth and location of reproductive system tissues.

6. Section integration (3 Points)

In a condition known as endometriosis, endometrial cells are believed to migrate from the body of the uterus
either into the uterine tubes or through the uterine tubes and into the peritoneal cavity, where they become
established. Explain why periodic pain is a major symptom of endometriosis.

Endometriosis is an often-painful disorder in which tissue similar to the tissue normally lines the inside of your
uterus. The endometrium grows outside your uterus. When endometriosis involves the ovaries, cysts called
endometriomas may form. Surrounding tissue can become irritated, eventually developing scar tissue and
adhesions abnormal bands of fibrous tissue that can cause pelvic tissues and organs to stick to each other.
Endometriosis can cause pain, sometimes severe, especially during menstrual periods. Fertility problems also
may develop.
