MAP 02: The diagrams below show changes in Felixstone in the UK between 1967 and
2001. (IELTS WRITING TASK 1 – 04/07/2020)
The given maps illustrate how the town of Felixstone in the United Kingdom changed between
the years 1967 and 2001.
Overall, there were changes in terms of facilities and housing, the most significant of which were
the additions of a hotel’s premises to the North and beaches to the South of the main street which
divided the town into two separate parts.
To the North of the main street, the farmland in the Northeast was removed to make room for
the construction of a hotel and two tennis courses and a swimming pool. To the west of this site
used to be ten shops positioned on two sides of the main street, the relocation of all of which
to the west allowed some apartments on the west side to be constructed. Contrastly, the golf in
the Northwest stayed intact over the whole period.
On the other side of the main street, two newly-established beaches, one private and one public,
occupied the space aross the main street from the hotel, where there had previously been a
fish market, a marina and a pier. The café north of those sites and adjacent to the main road
remained unchanged while the hotel just west of it was developed with a nearby new car park set
up. To the west, wind turbines facing the sea were set up whereas the dunes and some trees saw
no changed after 34 years. (236 words)
