The Importance of Cultural Tourism
• Tourism is concerned with various countries and cultures. The World Tourism
Organization tells us that Cultural tourism accounts for 37% for Global tourism, and
furthermore affirms that it will continue to grow / increase by 15% annually.
• Cultural tourism allows tourists to be involved in local customs and practices as
well as letting visitors discover a fresh and special culture. This also boost a
country’s economic growth.
• Cultural tourism is economically beneficial both for the destinations and for the
people that work there.
• For different reasons cultural tourism is important: it has a positive economic and
social impact. It establishes and reinforces identity & helps to build image.
Travelers can live in the traditions and can learn the cultures of the respective
countries that they are visiting. Cultural tourism has therefore arisen as an
increasing phenomenon in tourism.
• In short, Cultural Tourism can be summarized as the engagement of a traveler with
the people's culture of a country or region in those geographical areas, the history
of the local residents and all. Jesna Jalim, Travel Consultant, Samtex Agency

Lois D’ Amore , past President of the Canadian Travel Research Association, once said”
These millions of daily person to person encounters are potentially a powerful force to be
improved relations among the people and nations of the world, relations which emphasize
a sharing and appreciations of cultures rather than the lack of trust bred by isolations”.
