3 A capacitor is fully charged, then disconnected from a supply and discharged
through a resistor. An experiment can be performed to determine the resistance
of the resistor if the capacitance of the capacitor is known.
*(b) Describe which measurements would be collected with this equipment and
how they would be used to create a graph to determine the resistance of the
resistor.

4 A large capacitor, charged by a cell, is used to power a strobe light. The
manufacturer records data to determine how the charge stored by the capacitor
depends on the potential difference across it. This information is shown in the
graph.
(a) The strobe must light up in a series of quick flashes. To achieve this it
discharges from 1.4 V to 0.8 V. Calculate the average power output of one
flash if it is illuminated for 0.2 s.

(d) The manufacturer is also investigating the charging capacity of the
capacitor. Complete the graphs below to show the charge, charging current
and potential difference across the capacitor as it is charged up.
