Science Lesson Plan

This document provides a detailed lesson plan for teaching students about physical and chemical changes in chemistry. The lesson plan outlines objectives, materials, concepts, procedures, and a generalization section. Students will define and discuss the differences between physical and chemical changes, and provide examples of each. The teacher will conduct demonstrations and an activity to help students identify examples as physical or chemical changes.

A Detailed Lesson Plan in Chemistry

Prepared by: Alimon, Carlyn S./BSNE-201

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:
1. Define the meaning of physical and chemical change;
2. Discuss the difference between physical and chemical change; and
3. Write at least 5 examples of chemical and physical changes of matter.

II. Subject Matter

A. Topic: Changes of Matter

C. Science Concepts:
Physical Change- is a type of change in which the form of matter is altered but one
substance is not transformed into another. The size or shape of matter may be changed,
but no chemical reaction occurs.
Chemical Change- The change in which new substance is formed and chemical
composition of a substance is changed is called a chemical change. A substance loses its
identity in a chemical change and cannot be get back into its original form.
D. Time Allotment: 1 Session
E. Value Focus: Coordination

III. Procedure

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

A. Preparation
1. Prayer
Before we start, may I call on our (Prayer leader will open their cam and

3. Checking of Attendance
Now, let us check the attendance.
Secretary, do we have absentees
today? - No one is absent today, teacher.

It is nice to hear that all are present

today.

B. Review
Last meeting, we learned about matter
and its classification. So as a sort of - Matter is anything that occupies space

previous lesson?

C. Motivation
Class, I have here a piece of paper and
a candle with a matchstick. All you have
to do is to watch carefully what will (The students watch carefully as the
happen to the paper and the candle teacher conduct the activity)
while I conduct the experiment. After I
had performed the activity, try to
explain what happened to the piece of
paper and to the candle.
D. Presentation
This day, we are going to relate what
you have observed from what I have - Changes of Matter, teacher.
done. Based from the activity that was
conducted earlier, what do you think will
be our topic for this day?

Very good!
This day, we are going to discuss the two
changes of matter – the physical and
chemical change.

1. Discussion
Class, do you have any idea what is - Physical change is a change in the form

Very good!
It’s good to know that you already have - Physical change is a change in which

How about chemical change? - Chemical change is a change in which
one kind of matter is changes into
different type of matter.

Definitely!

Absolutely! - None, teacher.

Is there any question regarding our topic
for this afternoon?

2. Activity Proper
Class, we will have an activity in relation
to our topic for this day. I want everyone
to participate in this activity. I have here
a list of Changes in Matter and all you
have to do is identify whether it is a
chemical or physical change. The first
one who press the raised hand button
will answer the question. Are you ready?

The first item is melting of ice cream. Is it

Thank you so much class for
participating. This will serve as your
recitation in this class.

IV. Generalization

Based on the lesson that we had, who - Physical change is a change in an

composition remains totally unaltered.
Some examples of physical change are
breaking of a glass, separating sand
from gravel, and cutting woods. On the
other hand, chemical change is a change
during which the molecular composition
gets totally altered, that is change in
which a new product is always formed.
Some examples of chemical change are
digesting foods, frying egg, and burning
of leaves.

your community? These are as follows: a rusting bicycle,
bleaching your hair, hammering wood
together to build a house, combustion of
fuel, heating of zinc oxide and freezing
of water.
Great job!
It’s good to know that you really
understand the lesson that we had
discussed today.

V. Evaluation

5. Rusting of iron is a ______________________ change.
6. Fireworks exploding is a __________________ change.
7. Mowing the lawn is a ___________________ change.
8. Spoiling food is a ____________________ change.
9. Bleaching your hair is a ________________ change.
