EVALUATION OF THE SUMMARY,
CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION
OF RESEARCH PAPER
Introduction
Duration: 5 meetings
1
Pre-Test
How did you find the test? Don’t worry about how far
you will get the correct answers. Just go on with the
module to learn and check if your answers are
correct.
2
Learning Activities
E licit/ Engage
Let’s start our lesson with a game entitled fact or bluff.
Read the statements below and find out whether it is a fact or
a bluff. Write the word “fact” if the statement is correct and
“bluff” if the statement is wrong.
Fact or bluff
How did you find the game? Did you find it easy?
Or a bit confusing? Don’t worry if you are not 100% sure
of your answer, you will recall the concepts as we go
along.
Summary, Conclusions and Recommendation are
altogether in Part 5 of the research paper.
Take a look at the diagram below. What can you
say about it?
SUMMARY OF FINDINGS
CONCLUSION RECOMMENDATION

The diagram tells that _________________________________________________

Direction: Evaluate the research paper using the following criteria Place a check (√)
mark on the appropriate box (Yes/ No) and beside it, write comments/
suggestions given by the experts.
4
2. The findings are listed
consecutively and numbered for
easy reference in the discussion of
the conclusions and
recommendations.
3. The findings are placed under the
subheading Summary of
findings.
4. The summary of the first three
parts is written in the past tense.
5. The summary does not contain
any new information.
Conclusion
6. Conclusions are based on specific
findings.
7. Conclusion answers the research
question.
8. Conclusions apply only to the
population represented by the
sample studied.
9. Conclusions are written in the
present tense.
Recommendation
10. Recommendations are based on
specific findings.
11. Recommendations employ actions
and further research.
12. Recommendations contain the
implications of the research
findings.
Great Job!
Now, Let us continue working on your
research paper but this time on-- revisions by
incorporating the suggestions given by the experts.
5
Activity 2: Revise Me!
Revise the Summary of your research paper incorporating the suggestions
given.
E xplain
Take time to understand the following ideas or concepts
about Summary, Conclusions and Recommendation.
6
Your conclusion will show whether or not your experiment “worked’. This will
demonstrate your skills to relate the facts you have researched with the findings of
your investigation.
In your concluding statement, you can also infer the possible benefits of your
results to society. Likewise, you can state any plans you may have to continue
working on other aspects related to the study. Your future investigations may well
have some direct application for humanity. Perhaps you will find a cure for AIDS, or
discover an alternative source of energy.
Recommendation contains the implications of the research findings. Following
are suggestions for writing recommendations.
1. Recommendations are based on specific findings if a directly relevant
finding cannot be cited the recommendation is not acceptable.
2. Two implications of research are:
a. Implications for action (i.e., in the light of a particular finding, what
should be done) and policies that might be formulated.
b. Implications for further research (i.e., what improvements can be
done on the present study: how the present study may be
expanded; etc.
Elaborate/ Extend
Now, that you enlighten with the ideas/ concept about summary,
conclusion and recommendation, try doing the activity below.
Instruction:
I. Give two (2) important points to consider in:
A. Formulating the Summary of findings
1. _________________________________________________________
2. _________________________________________________________
B. Drawing Conclusion
1. _________________________________________________________
2. _________________________________________________________
C. Making Recommendation
1. ___________________________________________________________
2. ___________________________________________________________
II: Answer this!!
Why should summary of findings, conclusion and recommendation be
consistent with each other?

Great job!! You have gone this far. You were guided
by the standards in the evaluation of the last part of your
study, the summary, conclusion and recommendation.

ENGAGE
The diagram tells that Summary of findings are the bases of the
conclusions and the conclusions are the bases of the recommendations.
EXPLORE: Answers depend on the learner’s study.
ELABORATE
I. A. Formulating the Summary of findings (any 2 of the following)
1. The summary of findings is written in the present tense.
2. The findings are cited together with the conclusion.
3. The summary does not contain any new information.
B. Drawing Conclusion (any 2 of the following)
1. Conclusions are based on specific findings.
2. Conclusion answers all the research questions.
3. Conclusions are written in the present tense.
C. Making Recommendation (any 2 of the following)
1. Recommendation are based on specific findings.
2. Recommendations employ actions and further research.
3. The recommendation contain the implication of the research findings
II. The summary of findings, conclusion and recommendation should be
consistent with each other since the summary of findings are the bass of the
conclusion and conclusions are the bases of the recommendation which
entails a good research.
