About the Module

This module introduces you to the value of social dances and dance mixers in the
enhancement of your fitness. The provided set of activities will in turn, lead to a
greater awareness of the right food to eat, proper ways to manage your weight, and
of course opportunities to maximize the enhancement of your fitness through social
dances. It is expected thereafter that such practices will be used by you to
influence the lifestyle and fitness practices of your immediate family and
community.
This module is divided into three lessons:
Lesson 1 – Dance Etiquette
Lesson 2- Nature and Background of Social Dance, Ballroom Dance, Dance
Mixer and Dancesport
Lesson 3- Origin of the Latin American and Modern Standard
Dances
Through this module, you will be able to:
1. realize the importance of fostering dance etiquette in social dancing in
real life;
2. describe the nature and background of social dance, ballroom dance,
dance mixer and dancesport; and
3. identify the dances in the Latin American and Modern Standard
groups.

Comfort and Safety:

Wear clothing that makes it easy and enjoyable to dance, both for yourself and
your partner.

• Regardless of how informal the dance is, always wear dance shoes.
• Avoid sleeveless shirts and strapped dresses, especially for active dancing.
• Sleeves that are baggy or cut low in the armpit are not a good idea,
especially in Latin and swing dances.
• Accessories like big rings, watches, brooches, loose/long necklaces, and big
belt buckles can be dangerous.
• Gentlemen: if you have no place to leave your keys and loose change, carry
them in the *left* pocket of your trousers.
