Climate Responsive Architecture Of: Thar Desert
The workshop focuses on understanding the climate of the place by exploring the most prominent desert region of India,
Thar desert, where nature exist with its extremities. Survival is a challenge and the life systems of such places teach us, how
nature is a resource for the human existence in its true form. It is the best place to understand the eco sensitivity and
response generated by traditional and indigenous architecture. 5 days journey is designed in three phases which initiates
with learning of analytical tools and methods to decode the climate through initial interactive sessions with experts. Further
it cruises towards providing the knowledge of culture and architectural traditions of village settlements in response to
climate. The course has emphasis on documentation of climate response developed at settlement, clusters and house form
level. Second phase of the journey consist of the heritage walk of golden city which is meant to explore the old Havelis
celebrating its architectural legacy since generations. Building elements and intricate details of these traditional buildings
demonstrate the rich knowledge about material handling and indigenous practices which have sustained through the test of
time. The Jaisalmer fort is the finest example of the old living city which was designed for water harvesting systems to
survive in extreme water crisis. With the progress of workshop, all the field explorations shall be periodically discussed and
analyzed on various parameters such as planning, activity pattern, materials and construction techniques etc. Third part of
the workshop is about hands on experience and learning of native construction techniques and material from local masons.
The course concludes with the inferences and study outcomes which shall be shared in form of compiled document.

Jaisalmer Fort
• Breakfast at hotel.
• Presentation about Jaisalmer Fort.
• Visit to Jaisalmer fort and Palace Museum. Jaisalmer Fort Model
• Lunch and proceed for visit to museums (Thar Heritage
Museum, Folklore Museum) continuing with the old city Gorvenment Museum
core we end our day with a beautiful view sunset at
Gadisar Lake.
• Return to Hotel, Dinner, Interaction and overnight stay.

DAY 6 – JODHPUR FORT & CLOCK
TOWER
Jodhpur is a city in the Thar Desert of the northwest
Indian state of Rajasthan. Its 15th-century Mehrangarh Jodhpur Fort
Fort is a former palace that’s now a museum,
displaying weapons, paintings and elaborate royal Jodhpur City
palanquins (sedan chairs). Set on a rocky outcrop, the Clock Tower
fort overlooks the walled city, where many buildings
are painted the city’s iconic shade of blue.
