earlier known as Imlibun.
 It is unofficially known as the Imlibun
bus station.
 This bus terminus is situated at Imlibun
island on the Musi River and is owned
by Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport
Corporation(APSRTC). M.G.B.S Front Facade
 Many buses from other states like
Chhattisgarh,Odissa, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh,
Maharashtra,Goa and Tamil Nadu arrive and
Departure at this bus station Daily.
 M.G.B.S. is the one of the 2nd largest terminal
in Asia.

 The Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station was started in the year 1989
and completed in two phases till 1996. It is completed at a cost
of Rs 13 crores.
 This terminal is designed by Uppel Ghosh.
 Total site area is 30Acres.

There are 74 platforms for incoming and outgoing buses

The planning and design were totally done in accordance with
the site and its location. The land around that is properly utilized
without any wastage.

 The site is approached through a 1

which in turn leads to enquiry and reservation counters.
The main entrance foyer leads to the administration office in
upper levels.

 The corridor leading to the departural platforms contains all
the important public facilities and Current Ticket Counters .

Dispatch office:

Administration office:

  The administrative works are carried out zonal wise mainly

within three zones .They are:


1. Hyderabad - Karimnagar Region.
2. vijayawada-vijayanagaram Region.
3.Cuddapah-Nellore and Ranga reddy region.
  The Administration work is carried out within executive directors
who control the executive offices and chief accountants office. The

functions of this are basically……


-To take all the complaints.
-Take cares of the transportation
facilities within the state.
-Ensures the proper functioning of the 7 Admin.office
buses.
    Services :
Water supply
 The overhead tank at the 3rd level
acts as a main source for drinking
and other facilities.
 The capacity of this tank is 20,000 liters.
 The rain water drain pipes are directly connected to the
musi river.
Electricity:
 Artificial lighting is used to the maximum extent in the
administration offices and few counters due to insufficient natural
ventilation.

Sanitary:
 About 23 toilets are provided in terminal at different points for
the easy accessibility.

 The sanitary pipelines are connected to the musi river.


 Horizontal & vertical connectivities are given by corridors,stairs
and ramps.

Structure
Foundation: as the type of soil available at the site is black
cotton soil, pile foundation of 15 m deep is laid.
Columns: box columns of 50cm size at 7m spacing are used.

The space in between the columns is properly utilized as the


fixed public seating with the side table for luggage .
The connecting wall between the columns have a inverted “v”
shaped arch which blends with the elevation.

Slab:the architect used two way cantilever slab in this


structure.
The total height of the slab above platform is 7-8m.
Elevation: The rhombus shaped voids and inverted v arches in
the elevation act as main source of ventilation.
 Rhombus shaped shading devices are used to blend with the
elevation.
Materials:
 Bricks: used for the interior & separation walls.
 Stone: compound walls.
 Marble & Tandur Stone: for platform flooring.
 Glass :for the counters and windows.
 Pvc: for the counters with computers.
 Rcc : slab s, beams &columns.

to 2m height.

open for bus bays

Merits:
 Site is located in the centre of the city having good road
network.
 Parking facilities provided are well designed giving sufficient
space for all types of vehicles .
 Platforms, counters, seating arrangements are designed
according to user comforts .
 Double height structure creates a good ambience at the
entrance.
 Accessibilities to platforms from entrance is designed in such a
way so that handicapped people can use comfortably.
 Enquiry counters are placed near the platform.
 Cloak room is located at well-secured place with sufficient racks.
 Toilets are placed wherever necessary.
 Seating arrangements is around the box columns.
 Facilities like Atm’s, bookstalls etc. Are provided.

Demerits:

 Island in musi river.


 Placement of platforms is far from the Main Entrances.
 Placement of drinking water fountains near to toilets.
 No horizontal growth is expected only vertical growth is

expected.
 Rainwater harvesting is not designed.
