3. Outlines
(1) Phenomenon
In the JSS-296/596/896 equipped with two NCH-1961/1962 REMOTE CONTROLLERs,
when communicating in DSC mode using the ROMTE CONTROLLER that turned on
power from later, the SELF-ID (MMSI) is transmitted as "123456789".

(2) Countermeasure
Replace three ROMs in NCT-196N-R using the ROM kit for NCT-196N-R (Code
7ZZJD0123).

(3) Others
ROM replacement is unnecessary in the followings:
 Only one NCH-1961/1962 REMOTE CONTROLLER is equipped.
 NCH-1961/1962 REMOTE CONTROLLER is not equipped.

1. Software version confirmation before replacing ROMs

1.1 The software versions of DSC MAIN (IC2) and DSC
JRC NCT-196N-R MF/HF DSC TERMINAL
SUB (IC204) are displayed for several seconds on the Software version MAIN: 0.32 SUB: 0.11
LCD after turning on the POWER switch. Navigation: NMEA0183
Transceiver: JSB-196GM
Confirm the software version of "DSC MAIN (IC2)" and
"DSC SUB (IC204)". NCT-196N-R LCD
If MAIN is Ver.0.32 and SUB is Ver.0.11, ROMs replacement is not required.
1.2 " NBDP MAIN (IC402)" can't check the software version by LCD screen.
Therefore, check for the label of replacement ROM.
If IC402 is Ver.0.25, ROM replacement is not required.

2. Preparation
Prepare the following items before replacing.
- Screwdriver Phillips screwdriver #2(3.0mm)
- ROM kit for NCT-196N-R (Code: 7ZZJD0123) The following is used.
・ROM 3pcs for NCT-196N-R (IC2/IC204/IC402)

3. NCT-196N-R (MODEM) ROMs replacement procedure

3.1 Turn OFF the “AC” and “DC” switch of NAH-692/695/698.
3.2 Remove the front panel.

Remove the 4 screws

3.3 Pull out the Unit.

Remove the 4 screws.

3.4 Remove the upper cover of the NCT-196N-R.

Remove the 4 screws.

3.5 Replace the ROMs.

(*)The software versions of the following figure is the state of after ROMs replacement.
IC407 (NBDP Sub): Non-mounted

IC402 (NBDP Main): Ver0.25

IC2 (DSC Main): Ver0.32

IC204 (DSC Sub): Ver0.11

(*) In removing ROM, use the pulling-out tool.
(**) Be careful of the direction of the notch when installing the ROM.

3.6 Return them in the reverse procedure.

Replacement the ROMs of the NCT-196N-R is finished.

Turn on the power of the NAH-692/695/698 and restart the NCT-196N-R.

4. Software version confirmation after replacing ROMs

Refer to “1. Software version confirmation before replacing ROMs”, and confirm that the software
version is the following.

JRC NCT-196N-R MF/HF DSC TERMINAL

Software version MAIN: 0.32 SUB: 0.11
Navigation: NMEA0183
Transceiver: JSB-196GM

5. Operation check after replacing ROMs
5.1 DSC
It is possible to do the Modem Loop test by the following procedure. In the Modem Loop Test, the
modulator and the demodulator are internally connected to form an inner loop, and messages
created in advance for testing is sent. Since both the sent message and the received message are
printed as follows, confirm that both messages are the same. If the printer is not connected, check
the received message on the screen.
(*) Actual transmission is not done in the Modem Loop test.
Procedure
5.1.1 Push the DSC button to change to DSC mode.
5.1.2 Select the [Func] menu with the cursor, and push the ENTER key.
5.1.3 Select [TEST] from the pull-down menu with the cursor, and push the ENTER key.
5.1.4 Select [Modem Loop Test] with the cursor, and push the ENTER key.
・Self-diagnosis of the modem starts, and send and receive messages are printed as follows.
・Also, the controller's "OTHERS" lamp flashes and the incoming buzzer sounds.

5.1.5 Push the ALARMSTOP button to stop incoming buzzer,

confirm that the send and receive messages are the same.

5.2 TLX
Procedure
5.2.1 Push the TLX button.
5.2.2 Confirm on the LCD display that the mode switches to TLX.
