WI Grain Flow Examination

This 3-page document provides a procedure for grain flow examination of forgings. Key steps include taking a sample from the head end of a forging, polishing the surface, etching it in hydrochloric acid, and examining it under low magnification for continuous grain flow lines. The head and head-to-shank area should show continuous flow, while some cut lines may exist in other areas up to specified maximums depending on the forging's diameter. Observations are recorded on Form F-8220.
