JEOPARDY GAME MECHANICS

1. The game starts with the host revealing the five categories in that round. Each category is
related and based on the subjects taken by the participants. Each of the five questions per
category is worth 100 to 500 points, with 100-point increments as the difficulty of each question
increases.
2. The host will start the game by picking a question among the categories and allotted amount of
reward points. The host will then dictate the selected question, and the timer will not start until
the host has completely read the selected question aloud once. However, participants are
allowed to “buzz in” even before the host has finished reading.
3. The participants only have 5 seconds to press the buzzer when they want to answer, and
another 10 seconds for answering.
4. All answers must be phrased in the form of an interrogative statement/question. Answers need
not be strictly grammatically correct in consideration of the limitations in the allotted time.
5. If they answer correctly, the allotted points shall be awarded to their team along with the
privilege to select next question.
6. If they get it wrong, failed to phrase it correctly, or fail to provide an answer, they shall receive a
point deduction equivalent to the allotted points for the selected question.
7. Additionally, other contestants that “buzzed in” will get the chance to answer the question. If no
one gets the answer correct/no one “buzzes in” within the allotted 5 seconds, the question shall
be discarded and the player who answered/selected the last correct question shall select the
next question.
8. Each round ends when the participants have either finished answering 25 questions, or if there
are no more available questions. There are two rounds – multiple choice and identification. The
scores in the first round will still be used at the start of the second round
