Welcome to Research 2!

The Learning Activity Sheet is a product of the collaborative efforts of the


Schools Division of Iloilo and DepEd Regional Office VI - Western Visayas
through the Curriculum and Learning Management Division (CLMD). This is
developed to guide the learning facilitators (teachers, parents and responsible
adults) in helping the learners meet the standards set by the K to 12 Basic
Education Curriculum.

The Learning Activity Sheet is self-directed instructional materials aimed


to guide the learners in accomplishing activities at their own pace and time
using the contextualized resources in the community. This will also assist the
learners in acquiring the lifelong learning skills, knowledge and attitudes for
productivity and employment.

For learning facilitator:

The Research 2 Activity Sheet will help you facilitate the leaching-learning
activities specified in each Most Essential Learning Competency (MELC) with
minimal or no face-to-face encounter between you and learner. This will be
made available to the learners with the references/links to ease the
independent learning.

For the learner:

The Research 2 Activity Sheet is developed to help you continue learning


even if you are not in school. This learning material provides you with
meaningful and engaging activities for independent learning. Being an active
learner, carefully read and understand the instructions then perform the
activities and answer the assessments. This will be returned to your facilitator on
the agreed schedule

Meaning of Words and Phrases in a Text

I. Learning Competency
Determine the meaning of words and phrases in a text.

II. Background Information

One way to determine the meaning of a word is by looking


at the other words around it. In doing, so, you find context clues.
Context clues are hints found within a sentence, paragraph, or
passage that a reader can use to understand the meanings of
new or unfamiliar words. These words help you understand the
meaning of a new or unknown word.

Example:
1. The girl screamed out for help. She did not whisper.
What is the meaning of the word screamed?
Your clue words: She did not whisper.
Meaning: say things aloud

2. The weather forecast for the day is overcast sky. Rain is


expected within the day.
What is the meaning of overcast in the sentence?
Your clue words: Rain is expected within the day.
Meaning: cloudy sky or dark sky

Directions: Choose the correct meaning of each underlined word.


Write the letter of the correct answer on a separate
sheet of paper.
