Nobaz PE Lab 3

This document describes simulations of a single-phase half-wave uncontrolled rectifier circuit with resistive (R), resistive-inductive (RL), and free-wheeling diode (FWD) loads. Tables show the input AC voltage values and calculated versus simulated average output voltages. The simulations were implemented in MATLAB Simulink. Waveforms are provided for resistive, inductive, and FWD load circuits operating at different input voltages. In half-wave rectification, either the positive or negative half of the AC input is passed to the output, while the other half is blocked, resulting in a lower average output voltage.

POWER ELECTRONICS

Simulation of Single-Phase Half-Wave Uncontrolled Rectifier with R, RL and

FWD

Objective:
Implementation of single-phase half-wave rectifier in MATLAB Simulink using R (resistive)
and RL (resistive, inductive) loads. Also perform the analysis using RL load and free-wheeling
diode(FWD).

Theoery:

A single phase half wave controlled rectifier is a thryristor based circuit which produces output
voltage for positive half of the supply voltage. However, the phase relationship between the
initiation of load current and supply voltage can be controlled by changing firing angle. This is
the reason; it is called phase controlled half wave rectifier. In this article, we will discuss the
circuit diagram, average load voltage, average load current and  load voltage for a Single Phase
half Wave Controlled Rectifier with RL load

Conclusion:
In half wave rectification of a single-phase supply, either the positive or negative half of the AC
wave is passed, while the other half is blocked. Because only one half of the input waveform
reaches the output, mean voltage is lower.
