India remains a bright spot in IMF’s global economic forecast of 2016-17. We are pegged as

eradicate black money has been received with both, appreciation and criticism. Will India truly
win the fight against black money and corruption? Will India sustain its position as a global
superpower?
We have a lot of work to do to sustain and accelerate India’s growth in the world economy.
Therefore, the question remains; can India invert the sceptics' argument?
In all there were four key note speakers and three panel discussions, "Running on Fumes?",

Social Responsibility Committee, Prof.LakshmaiahBotla and was followed our director sir, Dr.
Rajesh Panda the gathering. Our elite guests also addressed the children who had visited our
campus and appreciated the effort made by our students for making this day a memorable one
for the kids. The orphanage heads were awarded with a certificate of appreciation by the chief
guests and our director sir for their endeavour in making the lives of the children from shelter
homes better. The cultural events were kick started by a performance by Jhankaar, the dance
club of SIBM-B. Thereafter children showcased their talents on stage amidst loud cheering by the
students of SIBM-B. Various performances like group dance, group song and skit were presented
by the children, leaving everyone in awe. In order to do something different this year, there was
an origami session where children tried their hand at making various aquatic animals like fishes,
frogs etc. Some students showed exceptional talent in this field and made a lot more than what
was being taught. Lunch was served at 1:00pm.
The post lunch session was a combination of a number of games which aimed at making learning
fun. Kids were beaming with energy and ready to take on the world. Educational games like traffic
management aimed at making children aware of traffic rules. Some other events were designed
with the intention of the kids having fun. The games ended at 5 pm but the fun wasn’t over yet.
A puppet show was performed and not just the children but even the students of SIBM-B enjoyed
the spectacular performance. Finally we had a fun dance session for the students and volunteers.
Finally at 6:00 pm the college bid goodbye to the kids showering them with love and the gifts that
were brought for them. They had a heroic exit, with our students cheering for them as they walked
till their buses. The event was captured and aired on television by News9, a reputed news channel.
The day built memories in everyone’s heart, memories none of us can ever forget.

SIBM Bengaluru successfully held its Annual Management Conclave, Alchemy – two day management conclave
that provides a quality platform for eminent speakers to share industry insights with students. This year’s theme
for Alchemy was "Vivartanam Bharate".
In order to adapt to change, one needs to be aware of the change. In this era of information dominance, it is
becoming important that we keep track of changes around us and their consequences at both macro and micro
level.
In the midst of the rapid changes brought about by revolution in information technology and the growing
globalization, enormous economical as well as technological transformation is occurring in all spheres. The last
two years have seen remarkable changes in India's development paradigm. With demonetization and GST being
implemented, a majority of industries have undergone reforms. Significant progress has been observed in the
technology sector, albeit at the same time, Indians are still in the process of accepting these changes.
Vivartanam Bharate, aims at understanding the implications of these changes and embracing them with open
arms. Vivartanam means “Transformation”. How these changes are going to significantly impact the various
ongoing developments in the country and to what extent, is the topic of concern. The speakers for this year
were:

Day 1
8th September, 2017
Panel Discussion 1:Technological Singularity
The panel threw light on what the effect of AI will be on different sectors. There was the mention of IBM’s Watson and its
effect on the healthcare sector and how it is helping in improving the efficiency of the existing doctors. From the banking
perspective, AI is likely to provide more customer satisfaction but will also lead to the unlearning and relearning from the
employee's’ point of view. They also talked about Fintech and digital transactions and its likely impact on cash transactions
in future. The speakers quoted the example of Amazon prime while touching upon the logistics sector, and how AI is going
to recalibrate the way people work. They also emphasized on the fact of being informed and the importance of adaptability
and how, otherwise, it could create a fear for AI. Social and financial impacts of technology were discussed and how it’s
going to reduce the risk and unpredictability in our lives was also talked about. Interdisciplinary thinking and machine
intelligence were some other topics discussed under this panel which eventually ended with a Q&A session.
Keynote Address
Mr. C. Rammanohar Reddy
C. Ram Manohar Reddy, Editor of The Wire, explaining about Financial inclusion said that it is the programme that began
in 1969 which merely does not include opening of bank accounts but also encapsulates various associated services. In
1969, just about 20% of population was covered by the formal financial sector. Progress shifted gears after 1969, first
urban and semi urban areas were touched upon and then rural areas were covered. In March 2015. Only 53% of household
had a bank account. Talking about multiple aspects of Financial inclusion, he segregated Access facility into 3 heads;
contingency planning, credit and wealth creation. He lauded various government initiatives like limited KYC, push to ‘No
frills accounts’, PMJDY etc that facilitates financial inclusion and as a resultant significant progress was achieved
by 2014. On other hand, he listed the limitations of PMJDY stating figures from the field report that 33% of PMJDY accounts
already had a bank account, accounts of women, rural and BPL households more likely to show inactivity, average balance
went up after demonetization, banks not enthusiastic to service accounts, BSBD/PMJDY accounts used only for DBT
withdrawal. No true banking activity. Talking about the demonetization move by the government he was bit critical as
surge in deposits at the time was estimated at just Rs.50,000 crore, a small fraction of the Rs.15.28 lakh crore (3-4%), but
demonetization did help the Indian economy by giving a digitalization push and promoted JAM. On a concluding note he
said that “Financial Inclusion has come to mean opening a bank account and conducting transactions (essentially
withdrawals) but other Financial Services are not emphasized. India is progressing but still it’s a long way ahead”
Panel 2: Bankable India?
The panel consisted of Mr. Tamal Bandyopadhyay, Mr.Ravikumar,Dr.Susheela Venkataraman and Mr. Ravinder Beniwal
The panel discussed about the services available to the underprivileged or the rural society. Although the bottom strata is
getting products at a lower price, the ‘lower’ that we talk of is still high for them. Has financial inclusion become
synonymous with opening bank accounts? This is a question to be pondered over. Thanks to the various facilities such as
mutual funds, insurance etc because of which the number of bank accounts have gone up considerably. The panel mutually
agreed that we do not have enough evidence to actuate the success percentages about the economy that’s generally
floated around. The panel spoke about the benefits of farmers being educated. The importance of them knowing the
reality in the outer world. The panellists put forth a bitter truth about the banking industry in front of us. All the products
in the industry are those which bring about disruption, they said.Compared to the mobile phone industry where more
than 1 billion subscribers exist, the banking industry suffers with just about 500-600 million cards/accounts. India has a
huge informal industry which works on cash. Would people really want to use products that might replace cash? Do
farmers really get money credited to their accounts? These are some questions to which we are still finding answers.eynote
Address Mr. Rajat Jain
Mr. Rajat Jain is currently the Vice Chairman on the board of Neva Garments Ltd. He has also recently started his own
entrepreneur venture in the startup incubation space called PadUp Ventures.
He explained the evolution of Indian market from the 1990s and spoke about the startup revolution initiative in India.
Then he spoke about the importance of incubation, discovery, validation, maintenance and sale or renewal for any budding
startup. He discussed about the growing Indian market in terms of startup culture with examples of Flipkart and Nokia. He
also emphasised on the risks of budding entrepreneurs and how to drive transformation.
This was followed by a question and answer session in which he further elaborated on the changing market scenario and
importance of innovation.
Day 2
Mr. Sunder Madakshira is Head, Marketing at Adobe. He started his speech by talking about what transformation means.
Here is an excerpt of his speech:
“In my life it didn’t start and in my life it didn’t end,” so we don’t want to call it transformation. Indians are known to be
impatient. Transformation takes centuries to take place. The number of changes that have come in India ina relatively
short time are considerable and noteworthy. Only people who adopt the latest technologies will survive. In 2008, cloud
computing was becoming very important even though cloud computing is as old as 1998. All the data is stored in a cloud.
Companies which have not adapted to this kind of technology will suffer. The earliest adopters of technology are the ones
progressing. People who were least expected to adopt technology, did. people should know how to use the data they have.
The twin sister of digitization is mobilization.Firstly, we need to check consumer pull and technology push. It’s a
combination. We have to consider both while going forward. For example,a company manufacturing chillers came up with
an innovative use of technology. They got a chip installed in the chiller. This is an example of use of technology for a very
different reason. This chip is the health monitor of all chillers. It keeps measuring barometers and keeps sending data.Due
to this, down time is reduced from 87% to 3%. Mr. Sunder says
‘The interface of technology is simple, but its backend is not simple. That’s the beauty. You got to be ruthless and a complex
person to make simple things.’
By nature, India does not have a data driven culture. It’s changing fast though, for the good. We are very fond of making
decisions based on gut feeling. According to Mr.Sunder, India needs to depend on analytics to make better decisions. LG’s
launch of consumer products didn’t work too well as the decision was not data driven. On the other hand, ITC did the
same thing based on data and it worked! The way people are able to crunch data is going to make a difference between
successful and not so successful professionals. Being scared of numbers isn’t going to help. It’s not really a choice any
more.
Panel 3: Good and Simple Tax?
The Panel discussed on the positive and negative impacts of GST on various industries starting from Supply-chain to Small
and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) as a whole. The short-term effects of GST are hard to bear with as the companies have to
register themselves and do the filing monthly. Also, the GSTN (GST Network) is facing technical glitches due to which the
companies cannot file returns even if they want to. The Panel also discussed the poor implementation of the Government
in terms of designing policies and the unorganized way of implementing GST with unnecessary number of tax slabs. Apart
from the negatives, GST has impacted positively for industries such as E-Commerce and Logistics & Supply-chain. Since
the number of check posts reduced, the interstate transportation has become easier and thus E- Commerce is benefitted
due to decrease in delivery and transportation costs. After the implementation of GST, the Ease of Doing Business has also
improved. To summarize, the Panel touched upon the various aspects of implementation of GST on the organized (big
companies) and the unorganized (SMEs) players of India and how is it going to beneficial in the long term for each and
every one in the country. The Panel was followed by Question and Answer session.

beginning this wonderful journey. The event was declared open by the faculty coordinator of Social
Responsibility Committee, Prof. Lakshmaiah Botla. Our elite guests also addressed the children
who had visited our campus and appreciated the effort made by our students for making this day a
memorable one for the kids. The orphanage heads were awarded with a certificate of appreciation
by the chief guests and our director sir for their endeavour in making the lives of the children from
shelter homes better. The cultural events were kick started by a performance by Jhankaar, the dance
club of SIBM-B. Thereafter children showcased their talents on stage amidst loud cheering by the
students of SIBM-B. Various performances like group dance, group song and skit were presented

an origami session where children tried their hand at making various aquatic animals like fishes,
frogs etc. Some students showed exceptional talent in this field and made a lot more than what was
being taught. Lunch was served at 1:30 PM.
The post lunch session was a combination of a number of games which aimed at making learning
fun. Kids were beaming with energy and ready to take on the world. Educational games and videos
were played so as to make the children aware of personal hygiene and cleanliness. The games
ended at 5 PM but the fun wasn’t over yet. A magic show was performed and not just the children
but even the students of SIBM-B enjoyed the spectacular performance. Finally we had a fun dance

There have been profound shifts in Indian businesses and these shifts have not only impacted the 1.3
billion people of India, but the rest of the world as well. The government policies, foreign relations,
technology, and analytics have helped in creating a sustainable competitive advantage for Indian
companies. India is now one of the fastest growing economies in the world where technological
innovations, a boom in big data, analytics and the strife for a sustainable future play a prominent role in
driving it forward.
Redefining India aims at addressing these changes and embraces them with open arms in order to thrive
in these changing times. The speakers for this year were

Day 1
th
14 September, 2018
AI came into force in 1952 and first council of AI was formed during that period. In today’s world, the
questions we need to ask are, ‘How do organizations take decisions? What is Intelligence and what should
we do with this intelligence?’ Intelligence helps you analyze the problem and take the right decisions.
Mostly, companies when faced with a problem follow the CEO’s opinion but there is no guarantee that
this will be best for the organizations. Seeing the importance of data and analytics is what is changing the
organizations. They use it to find out what the customers need and inorder to identify the changing
patterns in the consumers’ head. Analytics tracks this pattern and helps them connect the dots. In India,
there are a lot of organizations that use AI and are driven by these algorithms. “We as a nation have a
stronghold on the IT Industry, therefore it is important that we adopt an analytical strategy to compete in
the market. We need to be proactive instead of being reactive."-
Today, all the technology and innovation we see around is driven by analytics. For example, how
smartphone uses predictive analytics for sending messages. AI consists of business context, technology
and Data Science. But the other perspective brought about during the discussion was how organizations
fail to use AI efficiently. The volume pf data that we handle is huge and without efficient usage of analytics,
it could always result in a negative impact. Data is money and we need to careful while using it.
Keynote 2: Pramod Varma
Dr Pramod Varma is the face of India’s largest digital identity program “Aadhar” and the CTO of EkStep. Sir
reflected on the fact that we are laying the platform to create products and services and to make it
available for millions of people. We are the privileged segment who falls in the top 2-3% of the country.
We are migrants who are always mobile. We move into a new society, start building and improving lives.
This is because; India has a young population that is aspirational, moving fast to leverage things that
benefit them. “Viable and reimagined businesses are built on the shoulders of strong infrastructure”. He
went on to provide examples of how data can be used to correctly authenticate and improve the existing
infrastructure. But why doesn’t it reach all 1.3 billion population of India? This is because it is neither
accessible nor affordable. India needs to build the digital infrastructure needed to reimagine business and
make it accessible for the betterment of our people.
The cost of doing business needs to come down and small companies need to establish trust and
verifiability digitally through provisions like GST etc. He also explained the working of toll gate in
authenticating the vehicles. He also went on to explain the ‘Ayushman Bharat’ initiative and how it will be
helpful for all of us. India needs to embrace ‘Data Democracy’. Data needs to be accessible and controlled
by everybody. “Data is not just to be protected, it must be used to empower. The problem is not that
companies are benefiting from our data, the problem is, we are not benefiting from it.”
The panel started the discussion by saying that “We are data rich but information poor”. Artificial
intelligence is helping in taking decisions not just for the humans, but for organizations and countries as
well and this is a golden opportunity that we need to thrive in. They touched upon how analytics helps us
in different fields like agriculture. They also discussed about different areas like ‘Predictive Policing’,
Analytics in the field of ‘Recruitment’ etc. They went on to talk about ‘Data Ethics’ and how everyday there
is an issue regarding data privacy and the vulnerability of organizations. Companies need to be proactive
when it comes to issues related to cyber security. They also spoke about building career in analytics. ‘Data
Scientist’ is a team and not an individual. They are people with the knowledge of business who understands
the complexity of algorithms and who helps in making accurate decisions. They concluded saying that in
the last 5 years, there have been a lot of advancements in the field of AI but we need to improve on our
existing skills in order to adapt and face the challenges posed to organizations and countries and ended by
stating, “Are we on the right side or wrong side of data? It is up to us to decide.”
The panel started the discussion by talking about CSR and social responsibility. CSR is more than
sustainable development. CSR is integral and cannot be considered as peripheral to the organization. It
has to be the core of the organization. Social responsibility impact any business on social, environment
and economic levels. CSR is more than sustainable development. They continued by saying that, Planet is
the 4th 'P' that needs to be added to the 3P (Product, Profit, People) approach for organizations band that
CSR cannot be considered as a Sunday confession of an Italian Mafia. They went on to explain how
businesses don’t just exist for making profits. They survive to accelerate and maintain the social, economic
and environmental integrity. They also touched upon the topic regarding the initiatives taken up by the
government of India like PPS, steps against the TFR (Tiger, Forest, River) Syndrome etc. We need to work
on energy, water, waste and air and on measuring carbon levels. This realization comes when we interact
with people from other countries. They explained how we need to survive in this VUCA world. Businesses
cannot just think of economic progress. There will be disruptions in technology but it is up to us to decide
how to use it without harming the environment we live in. They concluded by saying that, “It all starts and
ends with you. Do not blame the govt., the corporations, the NGOs or anyone else. You are the future of
the country, so take the right decisions."
Mr.Sayantan Chatterjee, Director of PWC India, spoke about how innovation and technology is changing
as we move forward. Oil era is out. It is the data era and we are being fueled by data. He explained how
data is fueling this disruption. Data enables you to have multiple stakeholders contributing and so
everything around us is changing and we need to evolve too. We cannot limit the audience as the
disruption has helped us leapfrog through generations of outdated technology. He explained the actual
meaning of digital. As per him, it can be categorized as: i) Restriction of geographies ii) Money and
resources ii) An equal world. He also spoke about how companies are evolving and adapting with the
change. He used examples of Mahindra & Mahindra and TATA Motors and their strife to make a global
presence. Hence, amidst this digital disruption, the main thing is that every individual has a reach to it. He
concluded by saying that, "It's not enough to have an idea or innovation, most important thing is that
conviction to take that innovation"
Day2
15th September, 2018
Mr. Sunay Bhasin, Chief Marketing Officer, MTR Foods Pvt Ltd, gave an insight into changing marketing
trends in India. He went on to explain about the disruptive technologies. Emerging technologies are met
with exponential adoption which starts the disruption and impacts lives. Even the great Maslow’s
Hierarchy of needs is getting disrupted. He stated that technology is disrupting our daily lives more and
more. He went on to give example of how Apple products are changing or disrupting every other product
in the market in one way or the other. He touched upon the aspect of the 4th Industrial revolution and how
IoT, AI is changing lives. From the marketing perspective, he said that, what makes a marketer different in
this VUCA world is how much you can push the creative side. He went on to explain eight helpful marketing
principles about having a clear brand purpose, the creative side of advertising, being topical, being bold
and taking a stand, brand engagement, willingness to learn, being passionate and finally about being
analytical. He spoke about digitalization and how things can be kept simple when products are being
marketed to customers because the real buzz is about connecting with people at all levels. He concluded
by saying that, “It is always better to be something for someone rather than being nothing for no one”.

Utthaan, the flagship event of Social Responsibility Committee of Symbiosis Institute of Business
Management was organized on 2nd September, 2018. Utthaan aims at fostering relationship with
the underprivileged children and delighting them. It’s a day which is meant to make them feel
special and cared for.
Description:
A day when dreams soared high and happiness knew no boundaries. The flagship event of Social
Responsibility Committee of Symbiosis Institute of Business Management, Bengaluru was
conducted on Sunday, i.e. the 2nd of September, 2018.
The main aim of this event every year is to bring the much-deserved smile on the faces of the
underprivileged children from shelter homes across Bengaluru, by organizing a fun-filled day at
the campus. This year the theme of Utthaan was “Dreams on Wings” with the tagline ‘Nothing
Can Keep Me Down’. The reason behind choosing this theme was to make them feel that they
are not any less than other kids.
The preparation for the event started a month back with manual creatives being the area of
focus. On the event day, the entire campus was decorated with creatives that depicted our theme.
The event started at 10:00 am in the morning. This time a total of six shelter homes namely
Anatha Shishu Nivasa, Makkalla Jeevodaya, Belaku Shishu Nivasa, Sadashraya, Surabhi Trust
and Prasanna Jyothi were invited with a total of 128 kids. They were assisted by their caretakers.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by the SIBM-B Director Dr. Rajesh Panda, the faculty
coordinator of SRC Prof. Pooja Gupta and the Chief Guests for the day were delegates from
CISF namely Sub inspector Executive Jerry M Kurian, Mr G D Charan Raju, Mr. M R Khan, Mr
S K Mohanta, Mr. Tarun Kuman. Delegates were dressed in their uniform and they talked about
safety and security. It was an attraction for the kids and they got really excited by seeing them
and interacting with them. The event started by lighting up the lamp, which was followed by an
address by the Director and the delegates. After the address, the informal part of the event
started. The dance club of SIBM-B, Jhankaar, gave a mesmerising performance and the kids
couldn’t help but dance along. The kids also came prepared with their own sets and needless to
say they left the students speechless. The mascot for the day was Angry Bird who played around
and interacted with the kids. After the auditorium program, the kids were taken to the mess for
lunch where they prayed and had a sumptuous meal following which they were grouped in 10
teams.
The next half of the day was full of games like box the balloon, target the castle, roll a dice, find
your color, target your castle, guess the personality, find your color, seven claps etc. Magic Show
was also in store towards the end of the day.
The kids were given goody bags which had gifts like lunch box, bottles, toys, ball. The shelter
homes were also awarded with a certificate and a memento for participation. The kids were
finally sent off at 6.30 pm. The volunteers were very dedicated and kept the day going without
any disruptions.
The event was successful in meeting its objective of bringing smiles on the faces of these cute
little kids and making a day memorable for them. The day-built memories in everyone’s heart,
memories none of us can ever forget.

ALCHEMY 2019
Alchemy is the Annual Management Conclave hosted by Symbiosis Institute of Business
Management, Bengaluru where seasoned minds from the corporate world share their
experiences and insights with the students.
The theme for Alchemy 2019 is India : From Vicious to Virtuous Cycle
When India gained the status of an independent nation 72 years ago, the country found itself
as a technology infant immersed in poverty. Time and again, it has been challenged with
numerous difficult situations, be it the political emergency of 1975-1977, the 1991 balance
of payment crisis, or the global recession of 2008. The journey of India evolving from an
impoverished third world country to an emerging global superpower has not been a smooth
one. Even today, as the country stands on the brink of entering a new revolutionary era,
issues like widespread poverty, inadequate infrastructure, slow rate of capital formation and
job creation for a population of 1.3 billion people are still holding back what otherwise is,
one of the fastest growing economies of the world. Unless India frees itself from this vicious
cycle it is in, emerging victorious in the upcoming era will be difficult. This raises the
following questions: How should it manage its economy in a global environment of unstable
and turbulent economies? How will it facilitate organizations to cross the chasm from being
just businesses to harnessing the true potential of an innovative corporate structure, strong
governance and varied culture? How should it leverage technology to reach and maintain
an advantageous position over other countries?
Very aptly the theme of Alchemy 2019 is India : From Vicious to Virtuous Cycle

Summary
The SIU Sports Trials and Selections officially kicked off for eight sports namely cricket, foot-
ball, basketball, chess, table tennis, volleyball, carom and badminton. There was an over-
whelming response from the Fresher’s 2019-21 batch. The smooth conduct of the Trials

Academic Year 2020-21
“The pandemic represents a rare but narrow window of opportunity to reflect, reimagine and
reset our world” – Klaus Schwab
The year 2020 was different in many ways. The deadly virus - COVID19 impacted the entire
world, causing millions to lose their lives, economies being adversely hit, businesses downsizing
or closing down, people losing jobs, and many more. India too witnessed similar unfortunate
circumstances, with many families losing their sole breadwinners and means of income
significantly reducing. Words like 'lockdown,' 'quarantine,' 'isolation,' and 'pandemic' have become
common in our vocabulary. Yet, as we step into this new decade, we are hopeful that we have
reached the light at the end of the tunnel. The time is ripe to look into the future. And what better
way to do it than by adopting new and innovative business models and strategies. How businesses
- small and large, tap into their resources with energy and zeal will determine how efficiently can
we unlock a sustainable and better future.
With several industries, including manufacturing, retail, and tourism, virtually coming to a
standstill and businesses resorting to remote working culture, 2020 threw a new mystery at every
stage. However, the indomitable human spirit did not take things lying down. We fought and are
still fighting; with multiple vaccines in the pipeline, we are heading with a vision to revive and
progress towards the next normal. This will likely aid the robust blend of monetary, fiscal and
structural policies which have been proposed by governments across both developed and emerging
economies to strengthen businesses towards the path of recovery.
Business transformations and innovative technological applications will play a significant role in
helping global economies bounce back. This revival of global economies will be driven by
technology, which will deliver the right business strategy, driving new business agendas, and
bringing new thinking and dynamism to conventional ways of business. Rising demand and falling
infection rates have tempered the expectations of COVID's hit on the global economy. With the
entire landscape of businesses altering, what role can adaptability and technological advancements
play to keep businesses afloat? How can nations leverage the existing situation and become front-
runners in leading the world towards a faster recovery?
In Alchemy 2020-21, we placed our focus on how enterprising technology is causing a paradigm
shift in economics and transforming businesses through resilient frameworks
We had dynamic, successful and inspirational keynote speakers who enlightened us on the
overall picture of the Pandemic and thereafter.
20
Alchemy 2020-21 encompasses the following panels:
● Business Transformation and Building Resilient Frameworks
● Economic Dynamics – A Paradigm Shift
● Enterprising Technology: The Vital Spoke of Transformation
“You never change things by fighting the existing reality. To change something, build a new
model that makes the existing model obsolete.” ― Buckminster Fuller
As the world prepares for the forthcoming next normal brought about by the pandemic, the
corporate sector is poised to play a significant role in facilitating the transition. Conventional
business models are being challenged to usher in more productivity, adaptability, and flexibility in
the working norms. Several corporates have already resorted to work-from-home and hybrid
models, remote and virtual workplace, flexi-time work schedules, and other modes of virtual
collaboration, thereby leveraging technology optimally. Virtual business communicationplatforms
have been rolling out upgrades to simulate a near personal experience making work- from-home a
viable alternative. Flexible work-hours empower the employee, creating a productive and robust
work environment. However, with the increase in interaction via remote working, how can
companies fit work-life balance?
While some businesses are leveraging technology, others are using creative and path-breaking
solutions by revisiting their core competencies to realign them to contemporary times. In the
pursuit of adapting to the next normal, resilient companies are creatively altering their business
models, human resources policies, and marketing strategies. Smart business, portfolio
diversification, and accelerated technology is the trend, with more companies venturing into
essentials to sustain the operational robustness while simultaneously helping society/extending a
helping hand to the society. The new virtual environment that the world is experiencing allows
businesses to unlock the latent potential of their human resources wherever they are. With all said
and done, the prevailing question concerns the existing environment; however, what other new
and innovative business practices would emerge to ensure business continuity and resilience?
Being the future workforce, how can we complement the existing human capital with the desired
skills of the new normal and what is in store for us?
“We cannot direct the wind, but we can adjust the sails." – Anonymous
McKinsey Global Survey states that – In just a few months, Covid-19 has enabled radical
developments in businesses, which has taken the world ahead by an estimated three to four years.
The rise in global opportunities and transformations, backed by digital adoption, has brought a
21
quantum leap, which looked seemingly impossible before the disruption. The key to capitalizing
such opportunities lies in building self-sustaining value chains, expanding on new emerging
sectors like gig industry, imbibing a circular economic system to survive and emerge as an
impregnable force amidst the chaos.
In the midst of every crisis lies great opportunity. The aftershocks of the disruptions caused by the
Pandemic will have a significant impact on the way business is done in the future. A new phrase
has come up in the last few months – “Business as Unusual”. It is becoming increasingly clear that
a return to Business as Usual is no longer a feasible option.
The present crisis presents a chance for policy adjustments. To mitigate the impact caused by the
crisis, nations are rethinking their economic models. Each nation is trying to combat the declining
demand through various methods like decreasing tax and interest rates and implementing various
fiscal and monetary policies. For this purpose, the governments have taken numerous stances for
the credit approval and tax reduction facilities. Global banking systems have also done a
tremendous job by incorporating Artificial Intelligence into their system and efficiently providing
loans to small and medium enterprises. The effort to reduce interest rates by Central Banks has
boosted the global lending market, which is expected to grow at a CAGR of 5.5% from 2021 and
reach $7,929.0 billion in 2023. As countries continue to formulate policies for recovery, it gives
them a chance to embark on a greener, smarter, and more equitable development path.
With a rapid increase in global consumption and start-up culture, global economies have much to
gain by shifting their outlook from wealth distribution to wealth creation. Private multinationals
will play a remarkable role in increasing employment and reducing inequality. As more than half
of the global workforce is expected to be a part of the gig economy by 2027, can it become the
focal point of this ever-changing world? This being the apt time to rise and build a conducive
environment for businesses globally, can India propel itself as a global power through a paradigm
shift in its economic model?
“Information technology and business are getting inextricably interwoven. I don't think anyone
can talk meaningfully about one without talking about the other.”- Bill Gates
Technology has always been the vital spoke of the wheel, binding the core elements of the
businesses together. The pandemic has induced technology to undergo significant changes, which
further influenced enterprises to adapt and use these emerging technologies to enhance
productivity and reduce production costs.
22
The pandemic has witnessed innovative applications of technology-harnessing the potential of
automation and robotics, artificial intelligence, and machine learning. Digital transformation and
holistic learning have launched a new era of education where technology has enhanced the learning
environment, empowering the entire community to learn without limits. Similarly, the healthcare
industry has been coming up with path-breaking research and development solutions. The
improved and innovative supply chain and logistics practices as seen in the vaccination drives have
multiplied efficiency by applying technologies such as the internet of things and block chain
solutions. With the increased adoption of digitalization solutions, higher availability of data has
allowed better analytics for improved data-driven decision-making.
While technology is transforming the major industries like travel, hospitality, and transport, we
also have to keep in mind that these industries represent only a portion of the overall economy.
Other industries like real estate firms, particularly housing corporates, show a decrease in demand
due to employees working from home. The question now is how technology will play a pivotal
role in embracing all sections of the economy, while handling the fallout of the pandemic. Should
we accept that certain businesses would significantly fade out just as digital cameras replaced
photographic films? Can technology indeed be the vital spoke holding together all businesses as
we move into a newer tomorrow?

Description - Humanity’s triumph against all odds is driven by the innate ability to visualize and
invigorate. In the face of adversity, there exists a visceral feeling of hope - the light at the
end of the tunnel that helps them navigate and reach their destination even through the
toughest of times. The fear of the unknown looms over everyone, but it is conquered
through courage, vision, and a leap of faith to uncover the vast seas of knowledge that are
hidden and unknown. Nurturing that feeling within us to ‘Envision & Empower’ is a powerful
tool to encourage everyone to take this leap of faith. The light that one emits from within, is
the aura that others perceive, influencing the lives it touches, empowering others to follow.
Just as the discovery of fire, ushered in a new age for humanity; now we must usher in a
new age for ourselves, fostering the light within each one of us.
