STEEL ERECTION

METHODOLOGY

MEVBUILT INC.
STRUCTURAL DESIGN PHASE
 Planning phase, the factors that go into a structure steel buildings are taken under consideration.
we have to look at things such as the building layout as well as the dimensions of the structure
you’re going to be working on. The functions that you want for the building is going to be a part of
the decision-making process. You also have to consider sociology, ascetics, the environment, and
how the building may impact the economy.

 Design phase, this is where you look at the design of the actual structure. You will look at the
proportions, dimensions, the connections, structural members, and other materials you may be
working with. The designer will coordinate structural details to detailer to provide shop drawing, and
after approval it will forward to production noted as fabrication drawing.

 Planning phase, this is where you get your equipment and materials and begin the process of
putting up the structure. you may have to hire labourer, and you could run into difficulties where
you have to redesign certain parts of the structure.
MATERIALS AND TOOLS PREPARATION

 Materials specification shall

supply bearings in accordance
with the requirements and
details specified on the
drawings.

 High strength bolts nuts and

washer.

MATERIALS FABRICATION AND INSPECTION

 In fabrication, the plan must

be approved by structural
engineer and with notes “for
fabrication” and before
execution.

 Quality inspection of materials

must meet standards before
proceed on fabrication.
MATERIALS FABRICATION AND INSPECTION

 On fabrication process, welders

must be a certified welder or
has WPS to document and serve
as guidance for the effective
creation of weld that comply
nor meets the applicable code
requirements and standards.

 Welding inspection thru visually

inspection, non destructive
testing method, liquid penetrant
(PT penetration test), ultrasonic
test to detect internal cracks.
PHASING PLAN AND MATERIALS DELIVERY

 The production team must have

sit down meeting with site to
coordinate sequence of
delivery which aligned to
phasing plan and schedule.

 One day before production

team will inform site to prepare

will report immediately to site
engineer to inform production team,
if possible shall be taken immediate
repair to avoid any delay of erection.
PHASING PLAN AND MATERIALS DELIVERY

 Unloading can be done manually or

with cranes. A spreader should be
used for lifting long
components. Lifting nylon or cloth
belts with suitable SWL shall be used
for unloading the
materials to minimize the damage.
Be sure to hook belts to component
with the right no. of points
and position so that the load of
component itself do not damaged or
broken.

 Always attach a tag line to the lifting

component.
.
SAFETY REQUIREMENT

 The workers on site must be

equipped with PPE. Safety shoes,
hard hat, full body harness, high
visibility vest and safety gloves.

 Visible safety signage in all active

areas especially on lifting operation.
.
ANCHOR BOLT SETTING

 Marking boundary line of

starting column on footing
 Check and adjust position
of starting column-rebar if
necessary.
 Marking bolt group-center
line on side form.
 Set template with anchor
bolts. The template
position is higher than
concrete surface level.
Marking line of bolt group
center and each bolt must
be matched on template.
ANCHOR BOLT SETTING

 Welding diagonal supporting bar

to column rebar and anchor bolt.
 Check position of anchor bolt
again after removing template.
 Protect bolt heads by masking
tape during casting of column
pedestal tie-beam.
 After casting concrete, re-check
anchor bolt position.
ERECTION OF STEEL COLUMN

PREPARATION
 Do not conduct erection
without last Erection
drawings issued for
Erection.
 Column materials were
arranged closed to design
position.
 Columns materials need
to be cleaned, paint
touching up and
assembled before
erection.
ERECTION OF STEEL COLUMN

 Attach driven rope to column.

 Check level and position of level

nuts and anchor bolts with
design.
 Temporary anchor points should
be arranged out of working area
to avoid hanging materials can
be caught by temporary cable,
this can cause collapse to
erected structures.
 Check lifting weight, crane
position with capacity of applied
crane base on crane
specification issued by
manufacturer
 The surface of concrete column
must be cleaned before erection
of column.
ERECTION OF STEEL COLUMN

 Anchor bolts shall be brought to

a snug-tight
condition after the first tier is
plumbed and the
columns are grouted .Snug tight
is defined as the
tightness attained by the full
effort of a man using
an ordinary typical spud wrench.

 Application of non shrink grout at

column to stabilize the weight of
structure.
ERECTION OF STEEL MEMBER

 All members such as

girder, intermediate and
cantilever beams are lift in
safe working load and
correct position.

 Attached tag line to

support erection piece to
prevent it to turn around
when on going lifting and
helps erectors to attached
it at column in safe
procedure.
METAL DECK INSTALLATION

METAL DECK
We can use metal deck
installation in various commercial
and industrial applications for the
activities like flooring, roofing and
also for the creation of forms for
concrete.

 Metal deck orientation specify

on structural plan where the
beams supported.
METAL DECK INSTALLATION

SHEAR STUDS
Shear studs may be used as the primary
attachment of the steel deck to the
supporting members and should be
specified on the contract documents IT
should be taken at supports where deck
ends meet, such as at a butt joint, to
provide adequate attachment to the
supporting member for sheet ends coming
in from both sides of the support.

 Laying quantity of shear studs

requirements must specify on plans.
 Height of shear stud requirements will
consider with regards in thickness of
slab.
BOLT TIGHTENING AND COMPLETION
 A method of tightening bolts in a
connection. A rotation of the nut
through 1/2 to ¾ turn beyond
a snug position will produce at least the
desired minimum tension on the bolt.
Snug is defined as the point at which
the material between the bolt head
and the nut is rigid. If power tools are
used, snug would be the point at which
the wrench begins to impact.

 High strength bolts or structural bolts are

made to be used with heavy hex nuts
to connect structural members. To be
considered a structural connection, it
has to conform to specific ASTM
standards
 Bolts will be tightened by method of
turn of nut and using impact wrench to
meet the required force applied.
BOLT TIGHTENING AND COMPLETION

 To check the reliability of impact

wrench when tightening, use
torque wrench to know if the
desired force are applied.

 Handover of area from

subcontractor with corresponding
signature on key plans both party.

 Before casting of slab all bolt

connection must complete and
check if fully tightened.
ERECTION OF STEEL MEMBER ROOF FRAMING

 Lift slightly rafter up

 Workers on the ground will drive rafter

to right
position in coordination with crane

 After rafter was connected to right

positions,
workers will follow rafter with PPE
attached to
static lines to install temporary purlins,
rod
bracings, flange braces

 Crane is only released when all

connection bolts were tighten,
temporary bracings, bracing purlins,
flange braces were installed
adequately
ERECTION OF STEEL MEMBER ROOF FRAMING

 After completion of frames

alignment, purlins and sag rod
will install between braced
bay to stabilize frame.

 Frames must be completed

painting touch up and
checked
ERECTION OF STEEL MEMBER ROOF FRAMING

ROOFING
 Box strut installation for gutter hanger
and support.

 Gutter installation and support.

 Install wire mesh, and insulation sheet

 Roof sheets must be installed right

after completing each
strip of insulation sheet to avoid the
insulation sheet being
damaged by rain or wind.

 Roof sheet will be lifted on to the roof

by crane or manually
by workers.
CONDUCTING QUALITY INSPECTION
WELDING INSPECTION
 Ultrasonic inspection can be used to
detect surface flaws, such as cracks,
seams, and internal flaws such as
voids or inclusions of foreign material.
It’s also used to measure wall
thickness in tubes and diameters of
bars.
 Penetrant method of non-destructive
testing is dedicated to detecting
surface defects invisible to the naked
eye. It is based on use of capillary
properties of liquids namely, on
capillary penetration of special
indicator liquids inside defects. This
method reveals defects by forming an
indication patterns on the surface of
tested items. These patterns have high
optical luminance and colour
contrast and width exceeding width
of the defect opening.
