2. Material property
2.1 The characteristic concrete cube compressive strength after 28 days shall be
as follows.
Grade of concrete Cube strength fck (MPa) Modulus of elasticity (MPa)
M20 20 20000
2.2 Grade of concrete
Structural element Cube strength (fck)
PCC 10N/mm2 (M10)
Column and shear walls 20 N/mm2 (M20)
Beams and slabs 20 N/mm2 (M20)
4. Structural steel
All structural steel shall confirm to IS 2062-1984 (Grade A) with Fe=415 N/mm2 Modulus
of Elasticity Es = 2.0 x 105 MPa.
Unit Weight of structural steel = 7850 kg/cum.
Poisson’s ratio = 0.3
5. Material Density
The selection of construction materials is based on the architectural design constraints and
conditions, proposed structural system, the relative cost of -materials and construction issues
Reinforced concrete shall predominant construction material for this project. In other words,
the main structural systems RCC slabs, RCC beams, and RCC columns and Shear walls. It
could be cast-in-place concrete and/or pre cast concrete. Steel structures may be used for long
span areas. The systems shall be described in detail in the relevant sections of this report.

6. Deflection Limit
a) EQ Loading and its Combinations
Under Service EQ loads the drift is limited to that as per IS Code 1893, Viz:
A≤0.004 x h h = story
height in meters.
b) Wind Loads and Combinations
Maximum lateral sway at the top of the building under service loads is restricted to total
height H/500 as per Cl. 20.5 of IS 456 while inter storey drift is restricted to h/400. c)
Vertical Loads
Under vertical loads the long-term deflections of beams and slabs due to Dead Loads and
Superimposed Dead Loads + instantaneous deflection due to Live Load are restricted to
span/350 or 20mm whichever is lower.
7. Loading criteria
