ED 107, Chapter 3 - Research

This document contains an answer sheet for an assessment in learning course. It asks the student to analyze 5 learning outcomes from lesson plans using Bloom's and Anderson's taxonomy of objectives and McTighe and Wiggin's 6 levels of understanding. The student categorizes the 5 learning outcomes in two tables based on the taxonomies. In Bloom's taxonomy, the most common level used was remembering, while the least used was analyzing. In McTighe's levels, the most common was have self-knowledge, while interpret was the least used. The student implies that teachers most commonly teach and assess at lower levels of understanding like recalling facts, while higher levels involving analysis and interpretation are less common.

Research
Gather 5 learning outcomes from student teachers’ or professional
teachers’ lesson plans. Using Bloom’s and Anderson’s taxonomy of
objectives and Mc Tighe’s and Wiggin’s 6 Levels of Understanding,
classify the 5 learning outcomes gathered using the tables below. Which
level of understanding is most used? Least used? What do these imply
on what teachers teach and assess most? (10 points. Each x2=20 points)
Learning outcomes:
Table 1
BLOOM’S AND LEARNING OUTCOMES
ANDERSON’S
1. Remembering  This was the most common used among
taxonomy, it more on focus on information
gathering or recalling the known facts.
Ex. Identify the characters in the story of Little red
riding hood.
2. Understanding  This is the second degree of learning focus on
comprehension of learners based from the
lesson they discuss. It involves comparing,
summarizing, classifying and interpreting the
given information.
Ex. Summarize the story of Little red Riding hood.
3. Applying  This 3rd degree of learning focus on carrying
out procedure by executing or implementing a
work. This involves applying what you had
learned through performances and product
output.
Ex. Dramatize the story what you read along with
your group mates.
4. Analyzing  This is the least used among taxonomy as it
involves dissecting the information in
different parts. Determining how parts
involves from one another, or how parts
related to overall structure or purpose.
Nevertheless, Analyzing can attain a higher
level of learning if teachers utilize it
appropriately.
Ex. Analyze the feelings and emotions each
character in the story you read.
5. Evaluating  Along with remembering, these objectives
also commonly used by teachers as it is
making judgment by means of setting a
criteria, scores, and standards. It also involves
critiques, feedbacks and reports. The results of
evaluation will be feedback to teacher if
his/her students learned or not. This is also a
precursor to create something.
Ex. Write your own Reflection based from the story
that you learn.

MC TIGHE’S AND LEARNING OUTCOMES
WIGGIN’S 6
LEVELS OF
UNDERSTANDING
1. Explain  This ensures the students understand the lesson
given to them by their teachers. Explain can
justify the response or course of action.
2. Interpret  All the answer here are “Principled” as the
learners able to encompass facts and point of
view as much as possible. For me this was less
used by everyone as it may result to
misinterpretation.
3. Apply  Authentic assessment is the manifestation of
learning. This involves real situation, real
person, real audience and position to ensure key
learners’ performance are self-conscious and
explicit.
4. Have perspective  This involves grasping of ideas whether it is
important or not. It gives the student to value
the ideas in different perspective or point of
view.
5. Empathize  This involves on understanding other feelings
or thoughts by seeing the world in different
point of view.
6. Have self-  This involves on students’ self-awareness on
knowledge his/her boundaries and boundaries of other
people who surrounds on him/her.it is
recognizing own prejudices and projections by
willingness to act according to his/her own
thoughts. This was the most common applied to
learners as it involves on decision making as
they grow-up.
