JAPAN TEL (076) 451-3150 FAX (076) 451-3161 This instruction manual is a guidebook for your installation and maintenance workson APINMARNE TECHNOLOGIES :TOFL-Series Type-@ Line Shaft Bearings. A sketch illustration is attached hereto. As to dimensions of every part, please refer to separate assembly dravings. 1. Checks prior to installation 1-1 Asetof APAN MARINE TECHNOLIGESLTU.FL-Series Type-B Line Shaft Bearing is usually packed in one case. When the fitting bolts and chock liners are supplied upon special order, they will be packed in another case. 1-2 Upon unpacking, check if every part is in good order and condition. 1-3 Remove the upper housing (2) and check if the inside of oi! tub and the babbitted surfaces of bearings are clean without dust and other foreign particles. 2. Preparatory arrangement before installation There are two sorts of practices as to the preparatory arrangement before installation of the line shaft bearing. One is to make the arrangement on board, Where the intermediate shaft is incorpo! ted with the !ine shaft bearing put in place. The other is to do it in factory, where the shaft is assembled with the bearing and, then, the assembly is moved to the location on board. In this instruction manual, the latter Cin factory) is explained as follows 2-1 Remove the upper housing (2) from the lower housing (1) and check if babbitted surfaces and all other interior parts are clean without dust and other foreign particles.Make the babbitted surfaces wet by lube oil. 2-2. Remove the vil baffles (6) from the housings 2-3 Clean the journal of corresnonding intermediate shaft and make it wet by lube oil. Place the shaft on the lower housing (1) of the bearing 2-4 The oil slingers(5) are made of rubber and have a small margin in length Cut them into suitable length (not expand when adjusting) Set them on the shaft and Fit their grooves with coil springs (7) hooked at the both ends Set the assembled oi! stingers in olace.Creference p,5) 2-5 Mount the upper housing (2) on the lower housing (1) and temporarily fasten it by bolts. f 2-6 Set the oil baffles (6) in place and temporarily fasten them to the housings by bolts. 2-7 The bearing and shaft are er bloc now. Move the assembly to the location on board using crane. 3. Installation 3-1 Remove the oi! baffles (6), from the said assembly. 3-2 Shift the oi! stingers (5) to the respective location about 100mm off the end of housings. 3-3 Apply “jack bolts to the corresponding holes of lower housing (1) and adjust the height of shaft center line by operating the bolts. 3-4 Adjust the location of bearing against the portside to starboard direction, keeping an even gap between the babbitted surface and the intermediate shaft. 3-5 Adjust the location of oi! slingers (5) according to the DWG. 3-6 Mount the upper housing (2) on the lover housing (1) and fix them tiyht by bolts and reamer bolts or knock pin. 3-7 In the case of the upper bearing metal is not supplied. “— Fix the larger piece of split baffle plate to the upper housing (2) ani the smaller piece to the lover housing (1). 3-8 Fix the oil baffles (6) to the housings applying gasket packings Make sure of even clearance between the intermediate shaft and the inner face of oil baffles. 3-9 Machine chock liners to obtain the necessary thickness. 3-10 In the case of using reamer bolts, machine reamer holes on the lower housing (1) and apply the fitting bolts tightly. : 3-11 Fix the lube oi! pipes in place. 3-12 Pix the thermometer in place. 3-13 Now the bearing is ready for turning of shaft. Prior to turning of shaft, be necessary to feed with the oil. 4. Lube oi! piping 4-1 L.0 pine line for line shaft bearing is usually branched off from the L.O line for the main engine. ’ in this case, the inlet oi! pressure to the bearing must be about 2~05 Kgt/en? 4-2 The line shaft bearing has an orifice in the L.0. inlet. ‘This is for the adjustment of the oi! flov. 4-3 Use of 4 needle valve before the bearing is recommendable. Adjust the oil flow on the trial and lock the valve in order to keen constant condi tion. No worry about oi! leakage or nelal failure in such case. 4-4 Bore of the oi! drain pipe must he same or over to the bore of the bearing outlet. 4-5 It is efficient to instal! the air veni on the oi! drain line in order to avoid oil leakage. 5. Lube oi! The same lube oil as main engine oil can be used. The recommended viscosity is 300 to GOO SUS at 100° F (3u5%) . Bearing Temperature Though depending on atonosphere temperature, the expected normal temperature of the bearing is 30°C to 55°C shen shaft ie in spin In the event of temperature exceeding 65°C, chuck if the lube oft supp ty is all right, or if there Is no influence of hull deformation. ecomaenda tion Prior to every turning of shaft, if is recommended to feed the pipe tine with a small quantity of tube oil.
