Measuring tools
Measurements- Is the process or the result of determining ratio of a physical quantity, such
as length, time, temperature, etc. to a unit of measurement, such as the meter, second or
degree Celsius . The English word measurement originates from the latin Mensura and the verb
Metri through the middle French measure.
1. Test light- a pocket size tool used to test the line wire or circuit if there is a current in it.
2. Micrometer- used to measure the diameter of wires\conductors in a circular mil. It can
measures small and big sizes of wires and cables.
3. Wire gauge- used in determining the size of wire\conductors. The gauge ranges 0 to 60
AWG( American wire gauge)
4. Ruler \ foot rule- a measuring tool used to measure length, width, and thickness of short
flat object and in sketching straight lines.
5. Push-pull rule- used to measure the length of an object in centimetres and inches.
6. Ammeter- An instruments used to measure intensity in a circuit. The unit of measure is
ampere (a).
7. Voltmeter- an instruments used to measure electrical pressure or voltage of a circuit.
The unit of measure us volt (v).
8. Clamp ammeter (tong-tester)- is used to measure current flowing in a conductor.
9. Volt- ohmmeter (VOM)- otherwise called as multi-tester; is used to measure the voltage,
resistance and current of a circuit, it is connected in parallel or series with the circuit
depending on what to measure.
Perform basic measurement
1. Memory- technically any form of electronic storage, it is used most often to identify
fast, temporary forms of storage.
2. Read- only memory (ROM)- located in the motherboard.
3. Random access memory (RAM)- Temporary storage for data and programs that are
being accessed by the CPU.
4. Dual inline package (DIP)- chips, was difficult to install and often become loose on the
motherboard.
5. SIMM- have 30-pin and 72-pin configurations
6. DIMM- is a circuit board that holds SDRAM, DDR SDRAM AND DDR2 SDRAM.
7. Double data rate (DDR)- technology doubles the maximum faster performance while
using less energy.
