Ict CSS NC Ii 2ND Sem Final Exam

This document discusses types of components that can be measured in a computer system, including memory, data storage capacity, processors, and video cards. It then lists various measuring tools used to take measurements of these components, such as test lights, micrometers, wire gauges, rulers, push-pull rules, ammeters, voltmeters, and volt-ohmmeters. Finally, it provides examples of performing basic measurements of memory components like ROM, RAM, DIP, SIMM, and DIMM chips.

ICT CSS NC II 2ND SEM FINAL EXAM

SELECT MEASURING INSTRUMENTS (CSS)

Types of components and object to be measured
1. Memory- internal storage areas in the computer system.
2. Data storage capacity- storage capacity refers to how much disk space one or more
storage device provides.
3. Processor- An integrated electronic circuit that perform calculations that run a
computer. Performs arithmetical, logical, input\output and other instruments that are
passed from an operating system (OS).
4. Video card- used to process images so they can be displayed on your monitor.

Measuring tools
Measurements- Is the process or the result of determining ratio of a physical quantity, such
as length, time, temperature, etc. to a unit of measurement, such as the meter, second or
degree Celsius . The English word measurement originates from the latin Mensura and the verb
Metri through the middle French measure.

1. Test light- a pocket size tool used to test the line wire or circuit if there is a current in it.
2. Micrometer- used to measure the diameter of wires\conductors in a circular mil. It can
measures small and big sizes of wires and cables.
3. Wire gauge- used in determining the size of wire\conductors. The gauge ranges 0 to 60
AWG( American wire gauge)
4. Ruler \ foot rule- a measuring tool used to measure length, width, and thickness of short
flat object and in sketching straight lines.
5. Push-pull rule- used to measure the length of an object in centimetres and inches.
6. Ammeter- An instruments used to measure intensity in a circuit. The unit of measure is
ampere (a).
7. Voltmeter- an instruments used to measure electrical pressure or voltage of a circuit.
The unit of measure us volt (v).
8. Clamp ammeter (tong-tester)- is used to measure current flowing in a conductor.
9. Volt- ohmmeter (VOM)- otherwise called as multi-tester; is used to measure the voltage,
resistance and current of a circuit, it is connected in parallel or series with the circuit
depending on what to measure.
Perform basic measurement
1. Memory- technically any form of electronic storage, it is used most often to identify
fast, temporary forms of storage.
2. Read- only memory (ROM)- located in the motherboard.
3. Random access memory (RAM)- Temporary storage for data and programs that are
being accessed by the CPU.
4. Dual inline package (DIP)- chips, was difficult to install and often become loose on the
motherboard.
5. SIMM- have 30-pin and 72-pin configurations
6. DIMM- is a circuit board that holds SDRAM, DDR SDRAM AND DDR2 SDRAM.
7. Double data rate (DDR)- technology doubles the maximum faster performance while
using less energy.
