GUIDELINES FOR THE PREPARATION OF

TECHNICALSEMINAR REPORT

1. Seminar reports should be typed neatly only on one side of the paper with 1.5 line spacing, on
A4 size paper (210 X 297mm). The margins should be: Left - 1.25”, Right - 0.75”, Top and
Bottom - 0.75”. All the text and paragraphs must be aligned as justified.
2. Before taking the final printout, the approval of the concerned faculty is mandatory and
suggested corrections, if any, must be incorporated.
3. Every copy of the report must contain the Outer Cover Page with a plastic cover. The report
binding has to be transparent and thick binding sheets must be used to cover the front and back
of the report. (Do not use spiral binding).
4. The organization of the report should be as follows:
Abstract
Table of Contents
Main body of the Report
The abstract should summarize the contents of the report and should contain at least 150 and at
most 350 words. It should be set in 12-point font size. There should be two blank (10-point) lines
before and after the title ABSTRACT.
5. The following are the chapters to be included in the main body of the report and in the same
order:
1. Introduction
2. Technical Details (specific to the topic). May contain sub sections.
3. Conclusion
4. References
5. Appendix (if applicable)
6. You have to number all the pages starting from Introduction all the till the end of the report.
Each and every chapter needs to start on a fresh page indicating the name of the next chapter.
7. The chapters, sections and subsections may be numbered in the decimal form. For e.g. Chapter
2, sections as 2.1, 2.2 etc., and subsections as 2.2.3, 2.5.1 etc.
8. The Figures and Tables must be numbered chapter wise. For e.g.:
Fig.2.1: Photograph of the Department
Table 2.1: Profile of the Department etc.
Please center the captions between the margins and set them in 10-point type. The distance
between text and figure should be about 12 point spacing, the distance between figure and
caption should be about 6 point spacing. Figure’s captions should be centered beneath the image
or picture and Table captions should be centered above the table body.
9. References: The references should be numbered serially in the order of their occurrence in
the text and their numbers should be indicated within square brackets (citations). For example,
[1]. The section on references should list them in serial order in the following format:
[1] Jones, C.D., A.B. Smith, and E.F. Roberts, Book Title, Publisher, Location, Date.
[2] Alonso, G. and Casati, F. 2007. Web services selection in compositions, In Proceedings of
the IEEE International Conference on Web Services (ICWS 2007), IEEE 2007
[3] Clarke, M, White paper title, published year, Available: www. xyz.com/article/, Visited: 15 th
April 2007.
10. Proper attention is to be paid to the technical contents as well as to the organization of the
report and clarity of the expression. Care should be taken to avoid spelling and typing errors.

CLARIFICATION REGARDING FONT TYPE AND SIZE

The font to be used for the entire report is Times New Roman.
The font sizes to be followed are outlined below:
Chapter Title: Aligned centrally, Font size 16, Bold, Capitalized, must be separated
from the other text by 24 point line space
The Section Headings: Left aligned, Font size 14, Bold, Capitalized
The Sub-section Headings: Left aligned, Font size 12, Bold, Capitalized
Any Deeper Level Subsection Headings:
Left aligned, Font size 12, Bold, Title Case
The body: Aligned as - justified, font size is 12, Regular text, Sentence Case
Line Spacing (throughout the report): 1.5 points
For example:
1. TITLE
1.1 SECTION HEADING
1.1.1 SECTION SUB HEADING
1.1.1.1 Any Deeper Level Sub Headings

Header & Footer: Font size is 10. Header/Footer should appear at the top/bottom of the normal
text area, with a line of about 5 cm in Word set immediately below/above the text.

Sample Footer: (SJEC is left aligned, Dept is center aligned & Year is right aligned)
