Employer: Hi! I am Engineer Chynna from ESCA Incorporated.

So today I will be going to conduct your

Virtual Initial Interview. Did you send a copy of your resume? Mr.?

Applicant: Mr. Gonzales, yes ma’am I have already sent it to your email.

Employer: So, let’ see. Tell me a little bit about yourself.

Applicant: I have been looking for a job for the past three months. It has been difficult since I don’t have
any experience and I just passed the recent board exam. I am currently staying here in Manila for almost
six months now. Also, I have been offered to teach in University of the East Manila since it was my alma
mater but I wanted to practice my profession first before I share my knowledge to those aspiring
engineers.

Employer: Hmmm interesting, what is your opinion on the role of geotechnical engineers in construction
projects?

Applicant: Well, the role of geotechnical engineers in construction projects is to provide advice and
guidance on the design, construction and operation of foundations, earthworks, slopes, retaining
structures, embankments and other man-made structures that are built on or into the ground. They also
provide advice on the assessment and remediation of sites contaminated by hazardous substances. So, I
think being a geotechnical engineer is a really great profession and a job that I am looking forward to
having.

Employer: How do you think the field of geotechnical engineering will evolve in the future?

Applicant: The field of geotechnical engineering is constantly evolving as new technologies and methods
are developed to address the challenges posed by the natural environment. One of the biggest
challenges facing geotechnical engineers in the future is climate change. As the world gets warmer,
permafrost in northern regions is thawing, which can destabilize structures built on or near it.
Geotechnical engineers will need to find ways to account for this increased instability in their designs.

Employer: Why do you think we should hire you?

Applicant: You should hire me because, even though I have no experience, I have lots of excellent skills
that will greatly contribute to this engineering firm. I also have lots of knowledge about this job even
though I am a fresher; in fact, I graduated with honors from my alma mater, and I was offered to teach
because of my excellent academic background there, like what I told you a while ago. I’m a great team
player, and I really feel like that’s one skill that really sets me apart from another applicant. I’m also very
effective at getting my teammates to be at their A-game without having to push them or be too
micromanaging. I will put all my knowledge and skills directly into your company, which will help me
grow my experience in this field. I can be the best and an important asset for your company, and I will
build my career within it.

Employer: How much salary do you expect?

Applicant: I'm a fresher. I don't have any experience until now. According to the research that I have
done, a person working as a geotechnical engineer in the Philippines typically earns in the range of
19000 PHP, the lowest, to 65600 PHP, the highest. But the average salary of a geotechnical engineer
changes with experience, and since I don’t have any, the salary for those with no experience to 2-year
experience would be 21,500 PHP. My priority is to get a job and enhance my skills and knowledge about
it, so I will follow your company's norms, and my salary will depend on my output as we go along.

Employer: That will be the last question for your interview! I just want give you some feedback. You did
a great job, and I can say that you aced your first interview despite some dead air while you were
answering. So, congratulations for passing this interview! We will call you again for your final interview
within this week just keep your line open okay?

Applicant: Okay ma’am

Employer: Do you have any other questions?

Applicant: Nothing ma’am.

Employer: Okay, I will now end this meeting. Have a great day!

Applicant: Thank you ma’am, Have a great day also.
