TEACHER’S REFLECTION
INSET Title: STRESS MANAGEMENT
Date and Time Conducted: February 9-10, 2023| 8:00 AM-5:00 PM
Venue: GNHS COVERED COURT

As a teacher, I know first-hand how stressful the job can be. From managing classroom
dynamics to meeting academic goals, the demands of the job can take a toll on a teacher's
physical and mental well-being. Over the years, I have explored different ways to manage stress,
and one approach that has been particularly helpful for me is using painting as a tool for stress
management.
Through painting, I have found a way to disconnect from the daily stresses of teaching and focus
on the present moment. When I paint, I can let go of my worries and negative thoughts and
focus on the physical sensations of the brush strokes and the colours on the canvas. This helps
me become more relaxed and centered, and I often find that my stress levels are significantly
reduced after a painting session.
Furthermore, painting has helped me develop a greater sense of self-awareness and emotional
intelligence. Through the process of creating art, I have learned to identify and express my
emotions in a non-verbal way. This has helped me develop a greater understanding of my own
needs and feelings, which has been invaluable in managing stress.
As a teacher, I have integrated painting into my own self-care routine. When I feel overwhelmed
or stressed, I make time for a painting session. I find that this helps me recharge my batteries
and approach my teaching with renewed energy and focus. Moreover, I have found that painting
has helped me develop a greater sense of empathy and understanding for my students. Through
the process of creating art, I have gained a greater appreciation for the power of creativity and
self-expression, which has informed my teaching practice in many ways.
In conclusion, painting can be a powerful tool for managing stress, and can help teachers
develop greater self-awareness and emotional intelligence. As a teacher, I will continue to
explore creative ways to manage stress and prioritize self-care, and will integrate painting into
my own self-care routine. By doing so, I hope to not only improve my own well-being but also
model healthy self-care practices for my students.
