Eguieron Carlo B Ee06l Activity 3

This document discusses the construction of a 4-pole, 3-phase, 50kW alternator with a cylindrical stator containing 36 slots with 20 turns per coil. It explains that the coils will be distributed in groups of 3 coils each across the 12 poles. A diagram shows the connection of the coils in a lap winding configuration. The procedure labels the terminals for the wye-connected winding configuration with 6 leads out of the alternator.

DESCRIPTION: (DESCRIBE THE CONSTRUCTION OF SALIENT TYPE AND CYLINDRICAL TYPE OF ALTERNATOR)
L2
Field poles are placed on the machine's spinning fixture to form an alternator. A rotor and a stator are the two essential parts of an alternator. The field
C2 A3
poles are projected onto the rotor body while the alternator's rotor rotates inside the stator. On the stator are the armature conductors. When the
armature conductors generate an alternating three-phase voltage, denoted by the letters aa, bb, and cc, three-phase electrical power is generated. An
alternator, also known as a synchronous generator, has become increasingly relevant and interesting to power engineers because it is used by all
standard power electricity producing plants to create three-phase electricity. Contrary to DC generators, which are built exactly the opposite way, C1
L3 A4
alternators are typically built with a stationary armature winding and a spinning field. With respect to a DC generator, an AC generator produces power
that is hundreds of times higher, on the order of a few hundred Megawatts. To support such enormous power, the conductor must necessarily get
heavier and wider. In order to reduce the centrifugal force needed to turn the rotor and enable higher speed constraints, it is desirable to replace these
high power armature windings with low power field windings, which are also proportionately considerably lighter in weight. U1 V2 W1 V1 U2 W2 W1 U2

OBSERVATION C4b C4e

There will be 12 groupings in all between the 4 visible poles and 4 visible poles themselves. As there are three coils in each of the four groups of the four poles,
we can see that they are all connected to their matching coils on the other poles. The coil distribution, pole grouping, and connection graph all have an impact
on the actual connection. The connections between each coil and the coils on the opposing poles are clearly evident.
