OPERATING METHOD
TURNING OUT AND LOWERING THE BOAT FROM INSIDE THE BOAT.

2. In the cause of boat lowering, start the engine of the boat, and take the rudder for the
appropriate angle.
3. When the boat has been launched, connect the clutch of the boat, and release the remote
control rope at apply the hand brake of winch.
4. Confirming the painter rope is tight, make the release of the boat hooks all at once.
5. Confirming the its distance from the ship, make the release of painter hook.

5. When the boat has been turned in up to the regulated position before stowing, the
electric motor makes an automatic stop by mean of limit switch prepared on the davit frame.
ATTENTION Pay the special attention to this operation, and defend the overload by over winding.
6. Dispose two men to the fore side and aft side on the platform and check the moving of the
cradle, suspension block and others.
7. Set the manual handle to the winch and operate it according to the two men's advice.

8. Stop the operation of the manual handle just as the cradle hit the stopper on the frame and
confirm that both cradles hit their stoppers at the same time.
9. After above conformation operate the manual handle slowly the suspension block rises from
the hook of cradle top.
ATTENTION
When stove the davit by manual handle, stop the its
operation before the suspension block hit the cradle top.
If do the operation of the manual handle after hit the cradle,
to the frame, overload works to the davit.

10.Take out the manual handle from the winch and stove.
11. Switch OFF the power switch in the starter.
12. Set -the cradle stopper and lash the boat.

13. Draw out the toggle pin of the winch brake arm, and
release the brake until the suspension block is just hung to the hook of the cradle top by
notching operation.
ATTENTION
1. Please be certain to confirm the boat fall to be
appropriately tensioned after the boat has been stowed.
2. If the boat fall are too loose, the boat may be thrown
out, being accelerated, so make winding on the winch drum.
3. If the boat fall are too tight, the boat weight is
supported only by the boat falls, so loose notching
of winch brake.

OPERATION PROCEDURES

All crew and personnel using this lifeboat should learn all operating procedures
contained in this and reference manuals.
1. Prepare boat for launching by releasing the lashing arrangement and bringing
the boat into boarding position.

5. All designated crew forward hook operator and aft hook operator board lifeboat
and take up their assigned positions.
6. In case of burning liquid on sea surface, it is now the time to activate the
emergency air system and the sprinkler system.
7. Once seated and wearing lifejackets, place the straps over shoulders.

8. Start engine.

9 .Helmsman pulls and maintains steady pull on the winch brake release wire until the boat is
completely waterborne and no tension exist in the fall wires.
10.Helmsman operates the hook release handle according to instruction on label fixed inside
of boat.

Normal operation
Under normal circumstances the boat can not be released from the davit falls until the boat
is fully waterborne. The following procedure should be followed exactly:
1. Do not touch the hook release lever until the boat is fully waterborne.

The red safety pin should never be removed until the boat is completely waterborne. Failure
to comply with any of the hook procedures may result in death or serious injury.

Emergency operation
If the boat is fully waterborne and the indicator arm has not moved from green zone to
red zone, then the following procedure should be followed exactly:
DANGER WARNING!
If the emergency operation (on-load) for the lifting hooks is carried out with the boat out of the
water the hooks will still release. This may result in death and or serious injury.
2. Forward and aft near the lifting hooks inside of the canopy are red wrenches. These
should be
located by the forward and aft hook men.
3. Open forward and aft hatches and place red wrench on square head of locker pin on the
side of each hook.
WARNING!
Both forward and aft hooks must be released simultaneously.
This procedure only to be followed if release handle at Helmsman's place fails to work.
Incorrect use of hook release lever can result in death or serious injury.

- Check that all water drain plugs and cocks are closed.
- Check that the water level in the header tank is filled up with mixture of water/anti-
freeze.

If the engine should fail to start due to poor battery condition, continue with the emergency
starting procedure. If the engine fails to start within 15 seconds, despite good battery
condition, release the switch and investigate the cause. The starter motor should be allowed
to cool for at least 15 seconds before attempting to restart.
NOTE!
This engine can be run with the boat out of the water for a maximum of 5 min, but the
propeller shaft should only be engaged for a few seconds at a time to check is operation.
While the lifeboat engine is running the alternator will charge all its lifeboat batteries. The
battery charger mounted aft port side inside the canopy only operates when the boat is
stowed in the Davit and the ships power supply is connected.

SYSTEM DESCRIPTIONS
Steering console
The helmsman position is equipped with a steering console which contains the engine instrument
panel, engine throttle/gear control lever, steering, searchlight with plug, compass and switches for
cabin lights and marker light. Hook release and lowering control is also operated by the helmsman,
see davit manufacturers manual for details about the latter.

The lifeboat electrical system is powered by 12 V DC 60 AH maintenance free batteries. To activate
the system, the main or emergency battery switches must be turned on.

Battery switches
Main engine starting is by 12V battery with electric starter. Emergency engine starting is by totally
independent 12 V battery system. Battery switches are mounted on the starboard side of the centre
tank section around midships with a battery box in the aft part of the centre tank section.
The external power supply must be disconnected before engine is started. Before the engine can be
started the main switch must be turned clockwise to the ON position. This will give and audible alarm
on the instrument panel. The engine starting procedures may now begin.
Should the main start battery fail to turn over the engine, the emergency start switch should be
turned clockwise to the ON position by using the same key as for main battery. This will give an
audible alarm on the instrument panel. The emergency starting procedures may now begin.
Battery charger
A battery charger is installed inside the canopy on the port aft side (42 V AC/12 V DC). The
charger is totally encapsulated with two channels capable of operating two circuits
simultaneously and separately. The battery charger has indicator lights for both batteries. The
indicator lights signal the charging process and battery condition.
Red: Charger not connected, faulty battery or battery not correctly connected.
Yellow: Charging by 14.4 volt in progress
Green: Fully charged batteries, voltage drops to 13.3 volt for maintenance charging.
Fuel tank
A diesel fuel tank is located in the compartment in front of the engine. The tank capacity
is sufficient for 24 hours operation at full speed. The tank is filled by removing the filler
plug located on top of the tank.

A tank is provided to the front of the boat for the storage of small loose equipment and

Sea anchor
After removing sea anchor from the storage tank, deploy as follows:
1. Secure the end of hawser and tripping line to the painter release hook.
2. Throw sea anchor into the sea. For proper operation, ensure that tripping line is slack
when
hawser line is taut.
After recovery of the boat is complete always ensure that the drain plug is open.
NOTE The brass cover on the drain plug must not be removed when the drain plug is
opened. Unscrew the plug maximum 15mm. If the cover is removed, the rubber sealing ball
will be lost and the plug will not close automatically when the boat is waterborne.

The boat is fitted with shock absorbing skates/fenders to provide protection to the inboard side of the
lifeboat during launching. The fender is permanently attached to the boat and will not affect the
seaworthiness of the lifeboat.

1. Remove emergency steering tiller from it's stowed position and place end of tiller over

Description
Man overboard is a combined day and
night marker safe to use on petrol or
oil-covered water. It is designed for
attachment to an emergency lifebuoy
by a lanyard, and when released
indicates its position by dense orange
smoke and two lithium battery powered
lights. The unit is constructed of
corrosion-resistant materials and is
fully weather protected until operated.

If you observe a man overboard - shout as loud as

bridge. There is hope that the man overboard will get hold
of the lifebuoy and at the same time the man

search. Throw several lifebuoys, if necessary!

Donning instruction
IMPORTANT: The inherent buoyancy of an immersion suit may prevent escape from
enclosed spaces. It is recommended that the suit be denned for use on a weather deck and
not in the vessel's cabins.

DESCRIPTION AND METHOD OF OPERATION
Description
The Red Parachute Rocket is a hand-held distress signal ejecting a parachute suspended red
flare at 300m altitude. Major features include:
a) An aluminum foil seal at the top and an '0' ring at the bottom of the signal to give greater
environmental-protection.
b) The trigger-lever opposition now includes an uncorked striker mechanism and a safety pin
to prevent inadvertent ignition.
The rocket casing is of a tough plastic to ensure optimum protection and reliability in severe
marine weather conditions.
Applications
Long range distress signaling. This signal is approved by International Maritime Authorities for
use on ships of all types and in snip's lifeboats and liferafts.
Operation
USE ONLY WHEN VESSEL OR AIRCRAFT IS SIGHTED
Although the signal is manually fired vertically to provide maximum range of visibility, in low
cloud conditions (below 300m), it is advisable to fire the rocket at an angle of 45° downwind,
1) Remove top and bottom end caps.
2) Remove safety pin.
3) Hold signal firmly. Squeeze trigger lever. Fire vertically, slightly downwind.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The SAILOR SART is designed for survivor location during search and rescue operations.
CARRY-OFF SART
Supplied as one integral unit. On abandoning to a survival craft the SART can be carried in
one hand and mounted through a port in the canopy using the attached telescopic mast
mount. The main external components of the SART are of high visibility orange thermoplastic,
joined by stainless steel screws and sealed against water ingress by 0-rings.
Operation is by a push button switch after a security label has been broken. A press-to-test
feature is provided to check that the unit is operational. Lithium battery is fitted with fuse
protection to prevent overload and it has a five year storage life. A latching connector is
provided to link the battery assembly to the circuit and facilitate battery replacement.
Each SAILOR SART carries a serial number on the centre label.

PURPOSE
An Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon (EPIRB) is used to alert search and rescue
services in the event of an emergency. It does this by transmitting a coded message on the
406 MHz distress frequency. This message is relayed via satellite and earth station to the
nearest rescue co-ordination centre.
The Sailor EPIRB works with the Cospas-Sarsat polar orbiting satellite system which provides
true global coverage. The system has an alert delay of typically 45 minutes dependant on
when the satellites come into view on the horizon.
The satellite can determine the position of your Sailor EPIRB to within 5km (3 miles) and the
coded message identifies the exact vessel to which the Sailor EPIRB was registered. This
information allows the rescue services to eliminate false alerts and launch an appropriate
rescue.
The Sailor EPIRB also has a secondary distress transmitter. This transmits on 121.5 MHz and
is used for "homing" purposes. When the rescue services get close, this allows them to
direction find on the signal. To cater for searches at night, the Sailor EPIRB has a bright
flashing light that aids final visual location.

DESCRIPTION
The Sailor EPIRB is a powerful self-contained distress transmitter. It is powered by a light
weight Lithium battery that has a replacement interval of 5 years. An EPIRB is intended to be
a one-shot device, once activated it can operate for 48 hours. It operates best while floating in
water, but it can also be operated while onboard.
Referring to the previous figure, the key components of your Sailor EPIRB are :-
ANTENNA - This is a flexible whip. It must be near vertical when operating. If the antenna
gets bent, gently straighten it out.
STROBE LIGHT - This is the glass U-tube visible through the clear lens dome. When the
Sailor EPIRB is activated this will flash every few seconds.
RED LAMP -Visible through the clear lens dome at the rear of the Sailor EPIRB. This stays
on or flashes to show you which mode you are in.
PROGRAM POINT - A dimple in the clear dome, through which your supplier can optically
input the coded message unique to your Sailor EPIRB. You must register the coded message
with local authorities.
READY BUTTON - Press this key once to de-activate the Sailor EPIRB. Hold it down to
run the built-in self-test, which checks basic operation.
ON BUTTON - Press this key to manually activate the Sailor EPIRB. The key is protected
by a sliding door, which is fitted with a tamper seal.
SEA SWITCH - The two screw heads below the keys are sea switch contacts. Submerge
these in water to automatically activate the EPIRB.
LANYARD - Pull the lanyard spool down to free it. Use the cord to tether the EPIRB to a
survival craft. Never tie the Sailor EPIRB to your vessel.

2} The spring pushes the Sailor EPIRB and the enclosure lid outwards. As the lid pivots
off it disengages from the screw head that helped hold it in place. The lid is weighted so it
rolls over and falls away.
3) As the Sailor EPIRB floats away from the lid, it moves out of range of the magnet. Once
away from the magnet its sea switch becomes armed.
4) The sea switch activates. The EPIRB then floats on the surface with its strobe light
flashing. After SO seconds it makes its first distress transmission.
If you need to manually activate your Sailor EPIRB, it can be freed from the enclosure simply
by pulling out the R-shaped retaining pin and removing the lid.

CONTROLS
ON button
This is hidden behind a sliding door, which protects it from accidental activation. The sliding
door has a tamper seal to show if the EPIRB has been activated before.
The Sailor EPIRB can be manually activated by sliding the door to the left (breaking the seal)
and then momentarily pressing the ON button.
When activated the Sailor EPIRB will start to flash immediately. It will not make any distress
transmissions for the first 50 seconds. This gives you a chance to turn it off, if you activated it
accidentally. During the first 50 seconds the red lamp comes on continuously. When the red
lamp starts to flash, the 50 seconds is over and distress transmissions have started.
READY button
This button can de-activate and test the Sailor EPIRB.
Ready Pressing and releasing this button quickly will de-activate the Sailor EPIRB and
return it to its "ready" state. When the button is released the strobe and the red lamp will stop
flashing.
Self-test Pressing and holding the ready button (for about 10 seconds) will allow the built-in
self-test to run. When the button is held down the red lamp will come on for 4 seconds, then
go off. During this time both the 121.5MHz homer and the 406MHz satellite transmitter make
"safe" transmissions. If both of these test transmissions arrive at the antenna with sufficient
power then the strobe light will flash 3 times to tell you that all is well. If the strobe light does
not flash within 10 seconds then there is a fault and the ready button can be released.
It is important to realize that the only time the Sailor EPIRB is completely off is when it is fitted
In its mounting bracket. As soon as you take it out of its bracket a magnetic switch activates
and puts the Sailor EPIRB into its "ready" state. It will not drain the battery in this state, but it
will turn on automatically if the sea switch contacts are bridged by water. The sea contacts
are the two exposed screw heads beside the rear switches.
Although you can manually control the Sailor EPIRB with the READY and ON switches, the
sea switch overrides any manual settings. For the manual switches to operate properly the
EPIRB must first be dry so that the sea switch is de-activated.
To ensure the sea switch operates properly in rough seas, it has a built-in time delay. It has to
be wet for at least 2 seconds before it will activate and it has to be dry for at least 8 seconds
before it will de-activate.

Sinking
If you have a category 1 "float-free" enclosure (see marking on enclosure label), then if your
vessel sinks, the Sailor EPIRB will automatically release itself from its enclosure before it
reaches a depth of 4 meters. The Sailor EPIRB will float to the surface and start to operate
because its sea switch is activated.
If possible, the EPIRB should be recovered and tied (using its lanyard) to one of the liferafts.
An EPIRB is meant to mark survivors, not the accident scene. For best operation leave the
Sailor EPIRB floating in the sea near the liferaft.
Abandon ship
If the vessel is sinking and there is time to fetch the EPIRB then this should always be done.
Release the Sailor EPIRB from its mounting bracket as described in section
4.3 or 4.4 and carry it to one of the liferafts. Once the liferafl is in the water, uncoil the lanyard
and tie it to the liferaft, then throw the EPIRB overboard so that it floats next to the liferaft. The
Sailor EPIRB will operate because its sea switch will activate.
Manual activation
If the vessel is not sinking, but there is imminent danger, then remove the Sailor EPIRB from
its bracket and manually activate it as shown below. Note that once activated it will flash
immediately, but it will not transmit a distress call for 50 seconds. This gives you a chance to
turn it off, if you activated it in error.

Once activated the Sailor EPIRB must have its antenna near upright and it must have a clear
view of the sky for proper operation. Lying it on its side or placing it next to a metal wall will
impair its range and may fail to alert the rescue services. Avoid handling the antenna, as this
will also impair performance.
De-activation
If the Sailor EPIRB was activated by mistake or if the emergency ends then the EPIRB can be
reset back to its "ready" state as follows...
• Remove EPIRB from any water and dry its sea switch contacts.
Wait 8 seconds for sea switch to turn off. If EPIRB is still flashing then it must have been
turned on manually...
• Slide switch cover fully to the right
• Press and release READY button
If EPIRB is still flashing then it has a fault. Refer to section 5 on "False alarms".

Battery condition
If your Sailor EPIRB has been activated for a cumulative period in excess of 2 hours then its
battery will need replacing. This is necessary to ensure that the next time it gets used it will
operate for the full 48 hours required by government regulations.

Keyboard lock pushbutton. When this button is depressed for more than one
second, the key-sign will show up in the display indicating that the numeric keyboard
is locked, thus avoiding unintended change of channel number {quick selection of Ch.
16 is still possible by long-push on "16"}.
The numerical keyboard will be released for use by pressing the pushbutton for more
than one second.
Speaker mode selection pushbutton. The AF output level range may be selected
for the wanted mode of operation. When the speaker-sign is shown in the display, the
audio output level will be in the high range, fitted for the old-fashioned use, with the
transceiver held in front of the user.
When there is no speaker-sign shown, the audio output level will be in the low range,
fitting the transceiver for convenient use as a normal telephone handset.

Keyboard beep-tone function control. When depressed for more than one second,
the audible keyboard feedback will be switched on and off alternately. If fitted with an
optional tone module, a short activation of this key will enter the specific tone module
input menu.
UP/DOWN keys for stepwise change on the setting of the selected function. The four
functions which may be selected are described below.
The UP/DOWN keys will default be active on the audio volume setting, indicated by
the VOL-sign.
Power level function. When the PWR-button has been activated, the actual RF
power level sign will be blinking for a period of 2.5 seconds, in which the arrow keys
may be used to change the power level setting.
Squelch level function. If the SQ button is activated, the actual squelch-step will be
shown above the blinking SQ-sign for a period of 2.5 seconds, in which the setting
may be changed by means of the arrow keys. If the SQ button is depressed for more
than one second, the automatic squelch facility will be activated, where the lowest
step on which the receiver will be muted is selected.
Volume level function. If the VOL button is activated, the actual volume-step will be
shown below the blinking VOL-sign for a period of 2.5 seconds. The setting of the
volume level can be changed by means of the arrow keys whenever no other signs
are blinking in the display.

Operation panel
Line buttons 1-20
From an operator panel you can select one or more stations or PA-lines by pressing
respective line buttons. Activated selection will be indicated by steady green LED for
respective line selected. Incoming call will be indicated by flashing green LED.
If desired, the signal button may be pressed to give a tone signal to selected station. Talk
from operator panel is performed every time TALK button is pressed. Operation panel will be
in listening mode as soon as a station is selected. When communication is finished press
again the selected station buttons to switch off. The LED will be off to indicate that selected
line is switched off. Each line can be set to access only PA or PA with talk-back.
TALK
To talk, press TALK button on panel or PTT button on handheld microphone, and speak
clearly into the microphone. When TALK button is released the operator panel will again be in
listening mode, and you will hear the communication from the selected station.
ALL
To give an All-call, select the ALL button and press the TALK button, the signal and message
from operator panel will be given to all stations, as a one-way message. It will be indicated by
steady green LED All-call also access the PA-system.
SIGN
If the SIGN button is pressed a tone signal will be given to selected station as long as SIGN
button is kept pressed. This will also activate extra signal to substations equipped with these
devices.

If B button is selected an associated Bridge wing microphone will act as a master station and
control the speech direction of the system. The operator panel will then act as a substation for
the bridge wing or in parallel with an other selected substation.
AUX
If there is an external signal connected to the AUX input of the system, this will be transferred
to any selected station if the AUX button is selected.
Alarm
If an alarm signal is connected to the AUX input and the associated alarm contact is closed,
the system will automatically reset all on-going communication, and distribute the alarm signal
to all stations. This function has highest priority. If a TALK button on an operate panel is
pressed during this situation, the alarm will be temporary muted.
DIM
By pressing DIM button you can dim the intensity of the light in the operator panel
VOLUME
By pressing + or - buttons repeatedly, you can increase or decrease the listening volume in
the operator panel. This will also affect the volume for an external speaker connected to the
panel.

General description
The VSP Amplified Batteryless Telephone System is designed for safe, loud and clear
communication and as a replacement of the traditional Sound Powered Telephones.
The traditional facilities are retained and an low power consumption amplifier with capacity or
battery ensures an excellent communication. By use of dynamic microphone- and receiver-
inserts, 4 times louder speech and listening level are obtained compared to the Sound
Powered Telephones. The VSP system is independent of the vessels power supply and fulfills
the demands for emergency communication between vital positions onboard.
The VSP system described in this manual is a system consisting of up to 20 main stations
with selector switches for selective calling between all connected stations.
The VSP system can also be connected to a 24V DC power supply and work as a
Common Battery Telephone System.
Operation
Set the station switches to wanted extension number. Group selector to 0 or 1 and the Line
selector to numbers from 0 to 9 giving 20 station selections from 00 to 19
Turn the call generator until a loud beep-tone is heard in own station.
This will be about 5-6 turns.
Lift off the handset, press the button and keep it pressed during the whole conversation.
You may now communicate with full power and without distortion for a guaranteed period of
20 minutes.
After 20 minutes the speech time can be extended by turning the call generator again.
By calling a station with a built-in relay circuit for operating external signal units, the relay is
activated for about 20 seconds.
The signal may be muted earlier than 20 seconds by pressing the "Alarm Stop" button located
on the front of the station.
The same relay circuit as described above can be delivered built into a separate wall-
mounting box and hooked up to any actual station.
In noisy areas a headset with noise compensated microphone may be connected to the
station, either fixed connected or pluggable via separate plug box.

Selective Call
The user can launch calls or announcements into freely selectable areas or groups.
Pressing a single or several selection keys defines the areas or groups a call is launched into.
The individual corresponding LEDs will light. By pressing the key of an already pre-selected
line once again deactivates that line again and the corresponding LED goes out.
After you have made your selection, the call is ignited by pressing the TALK-button. Prior to
that you can check via the BUSY-LED whether all lines and the paging station input are
actually free. If single lines or the terminal input are busy with lower priority transmissions, the
BUSY-LED will blink slowly. Whilst an announcement is possible, it will interrupt the other
transmitted event. If single lines or the terminal input are busy with higher priority signals, the
BUSY-LED will vastly blink and the calling attempt is being ignored (also refer to the
description of indications). The BUSY-LED lights during an announcement. The TALK-button
has to be pressed during the whole message. Until the user makes any changes, the defined
selection stays memorized even after releasing the TALK-button. Pressing the CANCEL-key
deselects the entire selection.
Additionally and in case of a pre-gong signal has previously been programmed, the GONG-
LED will light during the transmission of the pre-gong signal.
Collective Call
The announcement is launched into all areas of the entire installation.
The procedure is similar to making a selective call. First, all areas of the installation are
selected by pressing the ALL-key. Pressing the TALK-button activates the collective call.
During the outgoing call all area and/or group LEDs as well as the ALL-LED will light (also
refer to the paragraph "indications"). The TALK-button has to be pressed down until the end
of the announcement. BUSY-LED indication and the pre-gong signal are equivalent to the
selective call.
Direct Call
Principally it is possible to assign a direct call to any selection key (area key, group key, ALL-
key) via PC configuration.
This allows making an announcement directly by pressing the desired selection key – without
the need of pressing the TALK-key. For direct calls the BUSY-LED also signals the status of
correspondent areas (free, busy with lower priority signal, busy with higher priority signal; see
"indications"). When shipped, there is no factory pre-set direct call programmed.
Gong Signal. A gong signal can be transmitted into any selectable area or group of the entire
installation.
First, the desired areas / groups have to be selected; either by use of the selection keys
(selective gong) with the ALL-key (general gong). Pressing the GONG-key releases the gong
signal. While the gong signal is being transmitted, the GONG-LED lights continuously or
blinks (also refer to indications). The gong's priority can be set to 6 or 7. Therefore it has
priority over announcements from any paging station, except for the directing terminal (priority
10).Pressing the STOP-key cancels the transmission of a gong signal.

Vocal Message
A text message recorded on the optional message module or on an external
recording/playback device can be transmitted into any selectable area or group of the entire
installation.
First, the desired areas / groups have to be selected; either by use of the selection keys with
the ALL-key.
Pressing the TEXT-key starts the reproduction of the prerecorded message that had been
assigned during configuration. While the text message is being transmitted, the TEXT-LED
lights steadily or blinks (also refer to indications). The text message priority can be set to
values between 2 and 8.
Pressing the STOP-key cancels the transmission of a text message.
General Alarm
A general alarm signal is always transmitted to all lines of the entire installation.
Pressing the covered ALARM-key launches the integrated alarm. The key is lit while the
alarm signal is being transmitted. The priority of the alarm can be set between 7 and 9 and
therefore it has priority over any announcement or other event, except for those that were
ignited from the directing paging station (priority 10).
Pressing the STOP-key or subsequently pressing the ALARM-key cancels the alarm.
Selective Alarm
When a paging station is equipped with a second ALARM-key providing the option for
selective alarms, it is possible to transmit alarm signals into selected lines.
Equivalent to the procedure for making a selective call you first have to select the areas /
groups to which the alarm signal shall be transmitted. Afterwards you have to press the
covered ALARM-key to start the selective alarm. The key is lit during an outgoing alarm. You
can now already enter the lines for the following alarm. Pressing the STOP-key or
subsequently pressing the ALARM-key cancels the alarm.
Note: Launching an alarm is not related to the priority setting of the paging station it has been
activated from. An alarm can be launched from any microphone terminal at any time, even
when the system is in stand-by mode. A running alarm is optically and occasionally also
acoustically indicated at every paging station.
Canceling Signals
Pressing the STOP-key cancels alarms, gong signals and text message transmissions.
Events can only be terminated at the paging station they were launched from with the
exception of the directing terminal (paging tation with the highest priority possible 10).
Through the directing station it is possible to cancel any signal in progress.

System ON / OFF
The ON-key switches a PROMATRIX system ON or OFF. Mostly, it is not intended that any
paging station is provided with the possibility to do so. Thus, this function can be programmed
via PC-configuration.
When the system is in stand-by mode, the ON-LED is off. Pressing the ON-key turns the
PROMATRIX system's over on which can take up to 10 seconds while the ON-LED is
blinking. Once the system is ready for operation, the ON-LED lights continuously (which also
applies for all paging stations of the entire installation).
To switch the system OFF, you have to press the ON-key for approximately 1 second. This
feature is provided to prevent inadvertently turning off the system.
Pressing an ALARM-key or igniting an alarm sequence at external terminals automatically
switches the PROMATRIX system's power on and boots the system.
Program Assignment
When this feature has been activated during the PC-configuration procedure, it is possible to
assign programs o individual areas and groups of the entire installation.
First, by pressing the PROGRAM-key, the paging station has to be set to the program-assign
mode. Pressing a single or several selection keys assigns the outputted program (background
music) to the selected areas and groups. The corresponding LEDs are lit. Program
transmission has always the lowest priority (1). The signal level is determined during system
configuration. The assignment stays memorized until the selection keys are pressed again.
Pressing the CANCEL-key erases the entire assignment-pattern.
Subsequently pressing the PROGRAM-key or any other function key cancels the program-
assign mode. It is also automatically canceled after approximately 15 seconds.
In single-program configuration the music reproduction in all areas of the installation is
attenuated for the time of an announcement. In double-program configuration it is possible to
transmit the background music program into rooms that are not part of an actual
announcement selection unaltered. If every line incorporates its own F-output and separate
power amplifiers, it is possible to mix announcements and background programs in any way.
Special Functions
Generally, it is possible to assign a function to each selection key. This allows to utilize a
paging station to control the lighting, door openers, blinds, etc.; even controlling volume
settings is possible through the use of the UP / DOWN keys.
How to program and assign special functions is explained in detail in the PROMATRIX user
handbook. When shipped, there are no special functions assigned.

Operators of the Maritime SAE JIN Emergency Towing system shall be qualified and
trained personnel.
The personnel shall have relevant knowledge to the system and the production involved.
The machinery shall be operated in accordance with the procedures described in this
manual.
All the time, the equipment shall be controlled in good condition to make use of it.
AFT ETS
z There must always be tree access to the pick-up gear container, for allowing quick
deployment of the ETS.
z The tug should never pull out the towing wire by using full engine power. After
breaking the weak link in the securing device the tug boat should let the wire run
out by itself until the end socket is resting firmly against the strongpoint. Then full
engine power may be used.
z The ETS should always be ready for use. When traveling in winter conditions,
ensure that the equipment is free of ice and can be readily deployed.
FWD ETS
z The chafing chain to be stored such that a readily connection to the strongpoint
can be carried out.
z There must always be free access to the fairlead, for allowing quick deployment of
the ETS.

General description
SAE-JIN Emergency Towing System – ETS – is designed to meet the requirements of
IMO’S resolution MSC. 35(63) May 1. 1994 and supplementary requirements given by the
classification societies.
The main reason for having the Emergency Towing System installed onboard in a tanker,
is to have the possibility to make a safe and quick connection through a permanent
installed towing wire, to a tugboat, if an emergency situation should occur.
y The pick-up gear can easily be deployed by one man within 15minutes.
y The two separate buoys with flashing lights make the pick-up gear easy to find and
pick up by the tugboat.
y The arrangements should at all times be capable of rapid deployment in the absence
of main power on the ship to be towed and easy connection to the towing vessel.

5. As soon as the pick-up gear is in the water, it can be picked up by a tugboat. When
the tugboat has made fast connection, it can start pulling out the towing wire. The
weak link on the storage drum will break at a pull of approximately 3.5 tons. Then
the towing wire will fall out by its own weight, controlled by the centrifugal brake
fitted to the drum.
Note! “WARNING”
The tug boat should never pull out the towing wire by using full engine power. After
breaking the weak link in the securing device the tug boat should let the wire run out
by its own weight until the end socket is resting against the strong point. Then full
engine power can be used.
Retrieval procedure.

1. Remove the cover on the end of the centrifugal brake on the storage drum and
install the air motor.
2. Spool the retrieval wire on the smallest storage part of the drum.

3. When the end socket of the wire is resting properly on the drum, guide the towing
wire through the split flange to the largest storage side of the drum.
Spool the towing wire on the drum and monitor that correct spooling is obtained.
Rinse the towing wire with fresh water while it’s being retrieved.
When spooling, check for damage to the wires. Of any, we strongly recommend to
replace the wire with a new one.
4. Retrieve the pick-up gear on deck by hand or by means of wearing head on a
mooring winch.
Note!
The weight of the wet pick-up gear is heavy. If hand retrieved, it can slip and
cause injury to the operator.
Keep clear of the rope-and wire coils on deck!
Rinse the pick-up gear with fresh water and let dry before being stowed in the
container.

rope and the chain comes up to the deck level.
3. Use a rope to tie the towing rope to the hull to prevent it from slipping off.
4. Remove the messenger rope fitted to the eye-plate of the stopper point.
5. Separate the chain from the towing rope.
6. While getting the messenger rope loose, reel in the towing rope on to the tugboat’s
winch.
