K3 Script
Three characters: “Cyber Safety Cop (CSC)” (Adult police officer), Zachary (elementary aged
boy), and Charlotte (elementary aged girl).
CSC: Hi kids! I’m the Cyber Safety Cop. I teach children just like you about Digital Citizenship. I’d
like to introduce you to two of my friends, Zachary and Charlotte.
Zachary: Hi! My name’s Zachary. The Cyber Safety Cop taught me about how to be a good
digital citizen when I was your age. I can’t wait to tell you about what I’ve learned.
Charlotte: Hi! I’m Charlotte. I love having fun online, but what does Digital Citizenship mean?
CSC: Charlotte, that’s a great question. Being a good digital citizen is the same as being a good
citizen in the real world. It means we follow the rules, be respectful to others around us, and to
be helpful. Just because you are talking to a person on a screen, doesn’t mean it’s not real.
Zachary pulls his hands away from the keys and makes a horrified face.
Charlotte: Some of the things online is only for adults. You may see something you weren’t
supposed to, but it’s not your fault. If you see something that makes you feel bad, there is
something you can do. Just close the laptop or turn off the screen.
Zachary: A trusted adult can be your Mom or Dad, teacher, or even a police officer. They can
help you report it, or just talk to you about it until you feel better.
CSC: That’s right. As one of Zachary’s and Charlotte’s trusted adults, I always listen to them and
try to help them feel safe.
Zachary is sitting in front of a TV playing a video game with a headset and mic on her head.
Playing with the controller.
CSC: Sometimes when you play games online you may chat with other players. You may even
play with the same person more than once, but we never share our personal information with
anyone we meet online.
Charlotte: Personal information is something about you that only a friend or family member
should know (Screen with icon illustrations popping on the screen for each word). Like, your
home address, where you go to school, your age, or phone number. And, if the person online
wants to meet us in-person, we should never do that.
CSC: That’s right, we NEVER meet someone in person that we met online. It is very dangerous!
MEDIA BALANCE
Three characters: “Cyber Safety Cop (CSC)” (Adult police officer), Zachary (elementary aged
boy), and Charlotte (elementary aged girl).
CSC: Zachary, we are here to talk about screen time balance. You know, how to have a happy
balance between our online and offline activities.
Scene: Living room. Charlotte is sitting in front of a TV playing a video game. CSC walks in.
CSC: You ever get the feeling when you’ve been on a device for a long time, and when you
parent asks you to turn it off, it feels really hard to turn it off?
Zachary: Yeah, sometimes I feel upset or angry when I have to turn my game off or stop
watching a video.
CSC: This probably means you’ve been on your device for too long and need to take a break.
CSC: You should do something that includes moving your body, like exercise, or playing a game
with a friend that does not use a screen.
Zachary: I just got a message that says that my favorite game is going to be deleted if I don’t
click this link and sign back up. It says it’s urgent!
CSC: Bad guys send you a message, they make it sound very urgent, and give you a link to click
on. If you click on that link and give them your personal information, they’ll use it to do
something bad, like take over your game.
Zachary: Wow, I’m so glad I didn’t click on that link! What should I do next time?
CSC: If you ever get a message that something bad is going to happen if you don’t click a link or
a button; Stop, don’t click it, take a breath, and ask your trusted adult for help.
Scene: Zachary is sitting on the floor playing a video game with a headset and mic on his head.
He is making an angry face. His face turns red. His mouth opens and closes like he is yelling
something. A talk bubble appears over his head with “@$#! @#$%!”
Charlotte voice over above scene: Sometimes when you are playing a game, you can get excited
and angry. If you say mean hurtful things to the other players, you may get banned from your
favorite game.
Video game screen with a big red x across it with a buzzer sound.
CSC: And, if that other player goes to your school, you might find yourself in trouble at school
too.
CSC: All you need to remember is two words: Stop and Tell. Stop, (Have “#1 Stop” pop on the
screen) and don’t say anything back, and then Tell. Tell, (Have “#2 Tell” pop on the screen) a
trusted adult and ask for help.
