1. What are the disadvantages of File Processing System?
2. How does Tuple-oriented relational calculus differ from domain-oriented relational calculus?
3. What are stored-procedures and what are the advantages of using them?
4. Define rollback and roll forward.
5. Write the difference between an explicit and an implicit lock.
6. Write the difference between clustered indexing and unclustered indexing.
7. Write the difference between a database administrator and a data administrator.
8. What is a weak entity set?
9. What is a database Trigger and what purpose does it serve?
10. What is normalization? What are the effects of not normalizing a database?

1. a. What are the functions of DBA?
b. Develop an E-R diagram for a junior college that offers MPC, CEC, BPC courses
2. a. Describe the procedure for killing the views.
b. With suitable examples, explain how VIEW and UPDATABLE VIEW are created for a table.
3. a. With suitable examples for each, brief any two logical connectives [4M]
b. Write SQL queries for the following situations. Assume that an appropriate table S_DATA is
created with all the necessary attributes. [1+1+2+1+1M]
i. For finding the average age of all the students in the class
ii. For finding the average height of all the students whose grade is more than 8.5

iii. Find name and age of the tallest student in the class
iv. Count the number of different student names in the table
v. Find the student with lowest grade

b. With a suitable example explain multi-valued concurrency control protocol.
6. a. What are the advantages and disadvantages of tree structured indexing?
b. Explain with example indexed sequential access method (ISAM).
7. a. Write short notes on remote backup systems.
b. Discuss optimistic concurrency control.
8. a. What are the uses of nested queries?
