2.4 Construction Procedures/Methodology

Sub-contractor shall liaise with Main contractor to ensure that all installation works are in accordance to the
construction drawings, approved shop drawings and technical specifications. Any deviation at site from
construction drawings or shop drawings shall seek the confirmation from Consultant for approval on new
proposal.

To provide and install a complete fluorescent light fixture, self-contained emergency light / ‘KELUAR’ sign light
fixtures, bulkhead fixtures and recessed down light system as specified with all necessary materials,
accessories and working tools for connection from electrical Distribution Board and switches etc.
To ensure that the above system is completed with quality and excellent working system, the following is to be
observed: -

1. Ensure that all related light fixtures and types delivered are of the approved make and model complete
with all accessories and lamps etc. All materials delivered are to be verified correct by client
representative.
2. Installation of light fixtures is to be installed according to the relevant Combined Services Drawings
(CSD) and approved shop drawings.
3. Ensure all the accessories for mounting, supports hanger should be of the appropriate type, mounted
at the correct locations and properly secured.
4. Light fixtures mounted on the underside of the slab, on walls, suspended from slab or roof should be
checked for verticality and horizontal alignment.
5. All conduit entry into the light fixtures should be located at the correct position of the cable entry into
the light fixtures terminal / connectors. All conduit entry point should be made smooth with
installation of PVC bush or brass bush etc.
6. Cables to be connected should be properly secured. All metal clad bodies of light fixtures should be
properly earthed.
7. Lux test is carried out after energizing. To ensure lux level fulfill the requirements of JKR LS01
acceptable standard.
8. Installation shall accordance to the Material Submission Approval and samples provided at site.

4.5.1 Installation Procedure

Below are the procedures that will be carried out by the workers during the installation of the following and
various light fixtures: -

i. LIGHT FITTINGS ON PLASTERED / FIXED / SUSPENDED CEILING

a) For down light fittings, the installation shall be carried out after completion of plastered / fixed /
suspended ceiling. However, coordination between the down light fittings and plastered / fixed /
suspended ceiling frame shall be ascertained primarily as to prevent clashes during installation.
b) Next, electrical contractor shall mark and ascertain the down light opening position for ceiling
contractors’ onward attention and further action.
c) Once the opening is done, the down light fittings complete with termination of sub-circuit cabling
works are then clip directly onto the ceiling board of plastered / fixed / suspended ceiling.
d) Whereas for recessed type of fluorescent fittings, the installation shall be carried out after completion
of plastered / fixed / suspended ceiling frame. However, coordination between the fluorescent fittings
and plastered / fixed / suspended ceiling frame shall be ascertained primarily as to prevent clashes
during installation.
e) Once the plastered / fixed / suspended ceiling frame is done, the fluorescent fittings shall be placed,
set and subsequently hang onto the plastered / fixed / suspended ceiling frame independently by
means of supporting wire gauge being tied to the fluorescent fittings and anchoring to the soffit of
slab.
f) The size and numbers of supporting wire gauge adopted must be sufficient and adequate in carrying
the weight of fluorescent fittings.
g) Ultimately, the sub-circuit cables that lay inside the flexible conduit shall be terminated and connected
respectively into the fluorescent fittings by using hexagonal lock nut/gland provided.
h) After certain areas have been completed, request SC representative for inspection so he may randomly
check the work done; should he do desire.

ii. LIGHT FITTINGS ON SURFACE / WALL

a) Installation of light fittings on the surface of soffit of slab / wall shall be carried out after completion of
undercoat painting works.
b) The light fittings are usually mounted directly to the surface of soffit of slab / wall using only screw.
Therefore, plastic wall plug is inserted into the holes driven by 6mm diameter drill bit; at the screw
position as required to affix the light fittings firmly.
c) The number of screw required is depending very much on the shape of a light fitting.
d) Next, align and set the light fitting in accordance to the position of holes driven. The light fitting shall
be tighten by driving # 8 x 25 wood screw into the plastic wall plug that is laid inside the holes driven
on the surface of soffit of slab / wall.
e) Once completed, terminate the sub-circuit cable into the light fitting and make sure the cable is
concealed neatly within the light fitting as well.
f) After certain areas have been completed, request client’s representative for inspection so he may
randomly check the work done; should he do desire.

4.5.2 Testing Procedure

i. INDIVIDUAL ROOMS (OFFICE ROOMS, STORAGE ROOMS, LOBBY, CORRIDOR, LOCKER ROOM,
CONTROL ROOMS, SURAU, ETC.)
a) Mark on the layout plan drawing at 1000mm grid internals from all four side of the wall.
Overlap at the centre to standardize the centre points.
b) Transfer these 1000mm internal grid markings on the floor of the actual room area prior to
conducting the light levels measurements.
c) Place the digital lux meter at the desired point and level it (750mm to 1000mm), measure &
record the readings.
d) Record readings on related test sheet/checklist for final submission.

ii. INDIVIDUAL MECHANICAL & ELECTRICAL PLANT ROOMS WITH FLOOR MOUNTED / WALL MOUNTED
EQUIPMENTS.
a) Mark on the layout plan drawing at 1000mm grid internals from all four side of the room.
Adjust the working point if there are large equipment (Genset, Switchboards, Mechanical
equipment. etc) occupying the area.
b) Adjust the point of measurement to suit the installed equipment.
c) Transfer these 1000mm internal grid markings on the floor of the actual room area prior to
conducting the light levels measurements.
d) Place the digital lux meter at the desired point and level it (750mm to 1000mm), measure &
record the readings.
e) Record readings on related test sheet/checklist for final submission.
