Avions Marc El Dassault: Fan Jet Falcon Maintenance Manual

This document provides instructions for applying a PR 1560 MC protective compound to internal sections, center wings, and wings of Dassault Falcon jet aircraft. The compound forms a protective film and requires a two-part mixture applied in two thin crossed coats to achieve a thickness between 0.015-0.025mm. Proper preparation of the surfaces, compound mixture, application techniques, and thickness checking are described.

MAINTENANCE MANUAL

PROTECTION OF INNER SECTIONS, CENTER WING AND WINGS

USING PR 1560 MC COMPOUND

1. General

The PR 1560 MC compound should not be applied on non-treated aluminum alloys.

Maximum adhesive properties and correct resistance to corrosion are obtained by subjecting the surfaces to a
chemical treatment such as alodizing, anodixing, etc., before applying the PR 1560 MC compound.
This sheet deals with total or local protection of :
- structural tank internal parts
I - sections other than wing-to-fuselage interfaces on the joint plate.

2. Equipment and materials

I
- Heating chambers.
- If necessary : a locally-made joint plate support and an oven for rapid curing of PR 1560 MC compound if joint
plate protection has been renewed.
- Permascope (operating on eddy current principle)
- PR compound mixer, SEMCO type (SEMCO PRESSURE MIXER Model SP 1350)
- Standard spray gun, type VILBISS P-MBCJ 10 with nozzle 45G or mixing spray gun for catalyst products, type
VILBISS P-JGC-501 78 FZ with two pressure chambers and necessary pressure regulators and flowmeters.
- Rubber gloves
- Protective goggles
- Masking paper and adhesive tape.

3. General recommendations for the utihzation of PR 1560 MC compound

A. Utilization

This compound is a paint with a polyurethane base and is delivered in two boxes, one box containing part A
while the other box contains part B (double capacity).

Clean the mixing and spraying equipment with MEK, immediately after utilixation.

The cured compound can be removed with TURCO 49-34 or 5003 product.

CAUTION
THIS PRODUCT CONTAINS INFLAMABLE VOLATILE SOLVENTS.

B . Physical safety measures

The uncured constituents of the PR 1560 MC compound irritate the skin and the eyes when placed into contact
with the latter or with the clothes. Avoid inhaling vapors. While handling the compound, avoid ingestion and
contact with the body, especially with open wounds. Special precautions should be taken to avoid contact between
part A and the skin. The operator should always wash one’s hands before eating or smoking and should bear rubber
gloves and goggles.

4 - Preparation before application of PR 1560 MC compound

- Install the internal and external center wing and wing blanking plates.

- Degrease again the surfaces treated with Alodine.

The white lintless cotton cloth soaked with MEK and wrung dry should be absolutely free from dirt upon
completion of degreasing.

NOTE : The junction lines are masked and the bores are plugged as described in the sheet dealing with the
- application of Alodine (see 51-50-01).

5 - Preparation of PR 1560 MC compound mixture

Once open, the box containing part A should be used within one week. Part B thickens and may become
jellied when placed in prolonged contact with air. Only mix the quantity of product likely to be used within
the next 8 hours (covering capacity : 8 m2 per liter for a thickness of 0.025 mm).

Thoroughly stir up part B. Mix one part of A with two parts of B. Opent the box containing parts A and B
only at the time they are to be used.

6- Application of PR 1560 MC compound

A - Using standard spray gun

- Fit the spray gun with nosrle 45G.
- Supply chamber pressure : approx. 0.35 bar.
- Spraying pressure : approx. 2.5 bar.
- Take all the precautions required to obtain a perfectly dry air supply.
- The supply chamber should be fitted with a mechanical stirrer providing suitable pigment suspension.

B - Using mixing spray gun for catalyst products

Take all the precautions required to obtain a perfectly dry and oil-free air supply,
Adjust the spray gun in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations, so that appropriate
proportions of parts A and B are delivered.

NOT5 : Before applying the PR compound onto the aircraft surfaces, it is recommended to prepare
several metal samples (same type and same treatment as aircraft surfaces ) on which successive
coats of PR 1560 MC compound will be successively applied.
Measure the various coats applied, using a permascope.
The sample provided with a PR compound fihn thickness greater &an 0.015 mm and smaller
than 0.025 mm will be the example of colouration to be obtained for the application on the
aircraft surface of a PR compound film having the same thickness.

C - Spraying onto treated surfaces

Note the ambient temperature and relative humidity.
Refer to the utilisation chart (page 203) to place, if required, the room and the metal assembly to be
treated in the conditions where painting is possible.

The PR 1560 MC compound should be applied in two very thin coals crossed so as to obtain a final
thickness mandatorily comprised between 0.015 and 0.025 mm ; this result can be obtained with
a sufficient accuracy by &ying to obtain the same colouration as that of the sample previously
painted and checked.

7 - Renewal of PR 1560 MC compound protective fihn in the case where unwanted isolated scratches are noticed

In the case where the PR 1560 MC compound has been scratched, teared off or damaged, slightly polish the
surface around the defect using emery paper and MEK ; then, using a brush or a spray gun, apply the PR 1560
MC compound, making sure to overlap the existing compound. If the chemical surface treatment of the
aluminium part has been damaged, perform a new surface treatment with Alodine before applying the
PR 1560 MC compound.

8 - Thickness check

Check the thickness of the PR 1560 MC compound film, using a permascope previously set to zero. The film
thickness should be approx. 0.020 mm (not smaller than 0.015 mm and, especially, not greater than 0.025 mm).

- If the film thickness is smaller than 15 p , add an additional coat.

- If the film thickness is greater (even by a small valuejthan 25~ , the paint should be mandatorily removed
by cleaning the surfaces with solvent (MEK). This operation can be performed as compound curing has not
taken place yet. Repaint, proceeding as described above.

9 - Hot curing
To obtain rapid curing, place the heating chambers opposite the center wing and wing junction surfaces.

Place the temperature sensors into the holes provided on the internal blanking plates.

Adjust the space between the heating chamber and the junction surfaces to obtain a stabilised temperature of
SO0 C for 10 to 12 hours (tolerance : + O” + loo C).
The curing time starts the moment the junctions surfaces have reached the correct temperature.

10 - Final steps
- Remove the internal and external blanking plates.
- Remove the plugs, driving them out towards the inside of the recess SO as to prevent the paint from being
damaged around the bores.
- Carefully tiim the paint coat around the bores (if applicable) through slight polishing. Do not use any solvent,
- Unmask the junction lines and remove the PR 1560 MC compound present on the PR 1422 B1/2 compound
(boundary area). To this end, use a fiberglass brush (RUSH ERASER type).
- Reinstall the wing, proceeding in accordance with the instructions given in chapter 57.
