A. COURSE OUTLINE

Course Description:
Music 4 covers the formal introduction to elements / processes. The learner demonstrates
understanding of basic elements and concepts through performing, creating, and responding,
aimed towards the development of appreciation of music and art, and acquisition of basic
knowledge and skills. Through the formal introduction of elements, the learner can identify the
basic knowledge and skills in music and art, towards self-development, the celebration of Filipino
cultural identity and diversity, and the expansion of one’s world vision.

FIRST QUARTER

UNIT 1 and 2: Rhythm and Pitch

Content Standards:
1. Demonstrates understanding of concepts pertaining to rhythm and musical symbols.
2. Recognizes the musical symbols and demonstrates understanding of concepts pertaining to
melody.

Performance Standards or Grade Level Standards:


1. Creates rhythmic patterns in:
a. Simple time signatures
b. Simple one-measure ostinato patterns
2. Analyzes melodic movement and range and be able to create and perform simple
melodies.

2. Demonstrates understanding of variations of sound in music (lightness and heaviness) as
applied to vocal and instrumental music.
3. Recognizes the musical symbols and demonstrates understanding of concepts pertaining to
volume in music.
4. Demonstrates understanding of concepts pertaining to speed/flow of music.
5. Demonstrates understanding of concepts pertaining to texture in music.
6. Demonstrates understanding of harmonic intervals.

Performance Standards or Grade Level Standards:

1. Performs similar and contrasting musical phrases.


2. Participates actively in a group performance to demonstrate different vocal and
instrumental sounds.
3. Applies forte and piano to designate loudness and softness in a musical sample:
a. singing
b. playing instrument
4. Creates and performs body movements appropriate to a given tempo creates and performs
body movements appropriate to a given tempo.
5. Sings two-part rounds and partner songs with others.
6. Performs examples of harmonic interval with others

B. COURSE REQUIREMENTS (PETA and SUBMISSIONS)

*Please take note that Music subject is only for 1st and 2nd quarter of the school year.

ii. 3 Performance tasks (listening and applied skill-based assessments)

 Performance Task No. 1 and No. 2 (Mini task)


Music Drills – Application of basic musical elements learned on the music heard
under the topic of the grading period.

Music Analysis – Analyzation of music elements from the given music samples.

 Final Grand Performance Task


Final grand performance task is the culmination and application of all the learned
skill and competencies of the quarter. Grade School students will perform a piece
designated for their level (difficulty of the piece is selected for the skill of the
student).

C. Grading System
a. Passing rate - 60%
b. Percentage allocation for Written Works (WW) and Performance Task (PETA).
Performance tasks are divided into 2 which are Mini Tasks and Final Grand Performance
Task.
c. Subject Grade Allocation:
• 20% - written assessment (2 quizzes/ Summative Assessment)
• 40% - Mini PETA (2 drills or essay)
• 40% - Final Grand PETA (quarterly assessment)

D. Class Rules and Routines


a. Assigning of prayer leaders
b. Checking of Attendance
c. Students will be grouped for activities and presentations.
d. Music classes will be conducted in their respective classrooms or in the music room.
e. Instruments will be provided but it will be the responsibility of the student/s handling it
during music classes.
f. On Assignment –
• On-line interactive activities (supplementary reading and skill preparation for
the next meeting).
• Recorded assessments will be given as assignments such as mini PETAs
especially short video presentations of drills.

g. On Written Assessments
• Written assessments will be given after Unit discussions.
• Witten assessments will be given along with the mini PETA under the given
topic of the unit.
h. On Performance Tasks –
• For Mini Performance Tasks, it will be conducted during class.
• For Final Grand Performance Task, it will be given before the quarterly
examination as a presentation in front of the class.
i. On Academic Integrity (summative tests) – Summative tests and mini tasks will be
conducted every after 2 classes (twice per quarter).

E. Behaviour Expectations During Classes

 Participation is a must; that includes singing and playing instruments.


 Take care of the instruments being used during music classes.
 Respect should be given to the teacher during lessons, and especially to classmates who
are performing or presenting in front of the class.
 On-time submissions are a must to avoid incomplete grades within the quarter. (given
that we only having a total of 5 assessments per quarter)

F. Class requirements

Notebook for taking down notes during online lectures.


Instruments will be announced if needed (to be announced on beforehand).
