Explanation

The ANO and PART-FCL regulations determine what activities are EXCEPTED from the
standard regulation that a Private Pilot may not be "remunerated or rewarded" for Jying.
One of these exceptions is that a Private Pilot MAY be remunerated/rewarded for
instruction - but only when an instructor rating is held. There is not even any need to have
undertaken any commercial written exams for this purpose (although not taking them
may restrict the type of instruction that can be undertaken).

Question 7

Easy PPL - Review Test https://www.easypplgroundschool.com/test-review.php?testid=696389...

Explanation
aeroplanes give way to helicopters

Many people are under the impression that helicopters and aeroplanes are different with
regards to collision avoidance rules; they're not! The diagram below explains the "give
way" rules. Note that the diagram shows the order of PRIORITY from high to low (top to
bottom). This means that LOWER priority aircraft must give way to HIGHER priority
aircraft. i.e. those lower down the diagram must give way to everything above it in the
diagram.

Question 8

1 of 3 27/10/2023, 23:17
Easy PPL - Review Test https://www.easypplgroundschool.com/test-review.php?testid=696389...

Explanation

Many people are under the impression that helicopters and aeroplanes are different with
regards to collision avoidance rules; they're not! The diagram below explains the priority
rules.

Since both aircraft are of equal priority, the standard Rules of the Air regarding "give way"
must be used. This simply states that the aircraft that is "on the right" is "in the right" and
has the right of way. Therefore the aircraft that is "on the left" (i.e. the one that sees the
other aircraft is to the RIGHT of the nose) must give way by turning to the right, and
passing behind.

Question 9

Select the answer that correctly completes the following statement.

• At an aerodrome where take-offs and landings are not conEned to a runway, the

behind

on the right or left of

on the right of

on the left of

Explanation

Be careful with these questions, to ensure you understand "remain on the right/left of", or
"leave clear to the left/right".

In this situation, the pilot must remember that in absence of any published information to
the contrary, all circuit patterns are left-hand, and all turns after take-off or landing must
be to the left.

With this in mind then, the diagram below shows that when taking off or landing, this
must be done to remain on the right of any aircraft taking off or landing.

Question ID: 146

The pilot is exempt from the 500ft rule, but not the 1,000ft rule

The pilot is exempt from the 1,000ft rule, but not the 500ft rule

The pilot is exempt from both the 1,000ft and the 500ft rule

1 of 3 27/10/2023, 23:17
Easy PPL - Review Test https://www.easypplgroundschool.com/test-review.php?testid=696389...

Explanation

Historically, there used to be a difference in which rules a pilot was exempt from,
depending on whether the Keld in which a landing was to made was a licensed,
government or private airstrip.

Fortunately, the Standard European Rules of the Air (SERA) do away with this
complication, and irrespective of where an aircraft lands, it is always exempt from both
the 1000ft and 500ft low Qying regulations during an approach to land.

SERA.3105 Minimum Heights

Except when necessary for take-off or landing, or except by permission from the
competent authority, aircraft shall not be Qown over the congested areas of cities, towns
or settlements or over an open-air assembly of persons, unless at such a height as will
permit, in the event of an emergency arising, a landing to be made without undue hazard
to persons or property on the surface. The minimum heights for VFR Qights shall be
those speciKed in SERA.5005(f) and minimum levels for IFR Qights shall be those
speciKed in SERA.5015(b).

SERA.5005 Visual Flight Rules

(f) Except when necessary for take-off or landing, or except by permission from the
competent authority, a VFR Qight shall not be Qown:
(1) over the congested areas of cities, towns or settlements or over an open-air assembly
of persons at a height less than 300 m (1 000 ft) above the highest obstacle within a
radius of 600 m from the aircraft;
(1) elsewhere than as speciKed in (1), at a height less than 150 m (500 ft) above the
ground or water, or 150 m (500 ft) above the highest obstacle within a radius of 150 m
(500 ft) from the aircraft.

Question 12

During a ;ight, you believe you have inadvertently entered controlled airspace. Which is
the best course of action?

Question ID: 3009

Retain the current squawk. Ensure your transponder is squawking ALT. Maintain the
current heading. Seek help from the current ATSU that you are speaking to, or make
an URGENCY (PAN) call to London Centre (121.500MHz)

Squawk IDENT. Call London Centre on 121.500MHz

Squawk 0030 without ALT. Turn through 180 degrees whilst maintaining altitude to
leave controlled airspace

Descend to the lowest possible safe altitude. Squawk 7700. Leave the airspace by
the most expeditious route.

Explanation

If you have entered controlled airspace, it is highly likely that ATC will have already
started adjusting and rerouting their existing traMc to accommodate your infringement.
The best course of action is to maintain current heading, alert the ATSU and await further
instructions. If you self-deviate from your heading or manoeuvre the aeroplane to exit the
infringed controlled airspace of your own accord, this could make the situation worse if
other traMc has already been rerouted.

Explanation

DeBnitions are as follows.

Utility Category
Often used where the aircraft is below a weight limit other than the MAUW and/or within
a closer tolerance of the permitted centre of gravity limits i.e. less than full payload/fuel.
Operation within the Utility category may allow certain manoeuvres to be performed that
would otherwise be restricted at MAUW.

Normal Category
Typically when the aircraft conBguration falls outside of the Utility Category, but within
the MAUW and CofG limits, then this is known as the Normal Category. Manoeuvres are
generally limited in this category.

Explanation

A pilot's licence indicates that the person is a pilot. Detailed on the licence will be the
TYPES or CLASS of aircraft that a pilot is legally entitled to fly. If a pilot wishes to
extend their privilege to another CLASS (e.g. add a Multi-Engine Piston class rating),
then further training AND a skills test is required.

Note that the word "TYPE" in the context of this question refers to a specific TYPE
RATING (as opposed to a CLASS RATING). Type does not relate to a di"erent variant
of aircraft within a class, e.g. Cessna 152, Piper PA-28).

Explanation

This question states you have become lost around several air@elds with instrument
approaches. This means that action must be taken quickly because there is likely to be
lots of of other aeroplanes around you, possibly in critical stages of :ight (take off or
landing).

You are outside of controlled airspace so are not being controlled by ATC. The correct
form of action would be to squawk 0030 which is the oWcial "I'm lost" code. This will
alert all of ATC in the area that you are lost. The next thing to do is to speak to D&D on
121.5. This is the international emergency frequency and they will quickly be able to help
you ascertain exactly where you are.
