Biography of Charles Augustin Coulomb

Michael Faraday was born in 1791 in England to a poor family. He became fascinated with science through his work as a bookbinder's apprentice. Faraday attended lectures by Humphry Davy and impressed him with his detailed notes, leading Davy to hire Faraday as his laboratory assistant. Through his experiments, Faraday discovered electromagnetic induction and formulated Faraday's Laws of Electrolysis, revolutionizing the understanding of electricity and magnetism and establishing himself as one of the most influential scientists of his time.

Biography of Michael Faraday

• Michael Faraday was born on September 22, 1791,

in Newington Butts, Surrey, England. He grew up
in a poor family and received only a basic
education. At the age of 14, he became an
apprentice to a bookbinder, where he learned about
science and electricity by reading books for the
shop's customers.

• Faraday's fascination with science and experimentation led him to attend public
lectures by the famous chemist Humphry Davy at the Royal Institution.

• He took extensive notes in 1812, sent a bound set of these notes to Davy, who
recognized his talent. Impressed by Faraday's passion, Davy offered him a job as
a laboratory assistant, which Faraday eagerly accepted.

• Faraday's work in the Royal Institution's laboratory revolutionized the

understanding of electricity and magnetism. He discovered electromagnetic
induction in 1831, showing how a changing magnetic field could induce an
electric current in a nearby circuit.

• In 1831, he also formulated Faraday's Laws of Electrolysis, which describe the

quantitative relationship between the amount of substance produced during
electrolysis and the amount of electric charge passed through a solution.

• Faraday's pioneering experiments and contributions to the field of

electromagnetism established him as one of the most influential scientists of his
time. He published numerous papers, and his work was widely recognized.

• Faraday's life and scientific contributions continue to inspire generations of

scientists and serve as a testament to the power of curiosity and dedication in the
pursuit of knowledge.
