Grit Blasting Safety


1. Ensure air receivers and blasting hoppers are
designed under National or International Safety 1
Regulations and have valid Third Party 2
Certification and M&E inspection stickers;
2. Pressure vessels must be operated only by
persons trained in their use;
3. Grit Blasting nozzle shall be equipped with
“Deadman switch or valve”;
4. All fittings must have equivalent rating as the
pressure vessels and are correctly attached;
Universal couplings must be fitted with safety
pins; Remote control Remote Deadman
5. All hose connections must be secured with 3 valve control hoses handle

Whip Checks;
6. Ensure a safety relief valve is fitted and
regularly checked. Pressure Relief Valve setting
shall not be altered by unauthorized personnel; Remote Control System for Blasting Hopper
(Deadman Valve)
7. Breathing Air Filter shall be fitted with an
efficient condensate trap with a drain cock to 4
eliminate the likelihood of the operator inhaling
moisture or condensate liquid; this drain cock
shall be left partially open during use of the filter.
Filters provided for breathing air shall be used Safety pins

in accordance with the manufacturer's


recommendation; this filter shall be changed 6

and the filter case cleaned out per
manufacturer’s recommendation;
8. Hoses used for the delivery of breathable air
shall be specifically designed for this purpose;
9. Grit Blasting Hoods shall be complete, with no Whip check
parts missing or substituted.

NOTE: Sand and substances producing silica dust shall not be used as blasting medium (i.e. garnet).
