The high deployment of active transmission equipment over fiber is pushing to the optimization of existing fibers
by the Wavelength Optical Multiplexing (WDM) and Optical Transport Network (OTN) technologies.
Loop Telecom WDM1800 is a flexible modular system which supports CWDM, DWDM with Transponders, EDFA
amplification and OTN MuxPonder. It is designed for multiple deployments in Mission Critical Communication for
Power‐Utilities, Oil & Gas, Transportation, Defense… and also for Telco, particularly for 3G to 5G Backhaul and
RAN Fronthaul with up to 25GE transport per individual link, or Lambda.

CWDM/DWDM and OTN technologies for secure Transport
Loop Telecom in addition to having a portfolio of TDM solutions with PDH Multiservice, SDH/SONET transport
and Packet Network Transport (PTN) with MPLS‐TP or Carrier Ethernet switch/routers has developed a modular
optical solution CWDM, DWDM and OTN to optimize the fiber utilization for WAN and RAN deployment.
This solution transports TDM, PTN links with Loop Telecom or other vendor’s end devices.
WDM1800 is managed over the CPU in https or in SMNP by iNET a NMS for multi‐technologies.
Definitions
SDH The Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (ETSI) makes the transport over fiber STM1/4/16/64 links (155/622Mbps/2.48/10Gbps) of the
TDM circuits, ATM circuits and Ethernet EoS within a hierarchy of transport using VCxx containers. Main advantages of SDH are carrying inde-
pendent circuits, each with independent synchroniza on, the absolute QoS because the bandwidth is permanently reserved in the pipe, the
mechanism of protec on in ring, bus or Mesh fiber infrastructures, and the end-to-end management of transmission quality.
SONET The Synchronous Op cal Networking (ANSI) is the same technology and supports the same advantages as SDH but with ANSI defini-
ons and transport over fiber with OC3/12/48/192 hierarchy.
PTN The New Genera on “Packet Transport Network” combines the advantages of the SDH with the high capacity transport of the packet
technology. This technology takes the packet switching network as the core of transport with SyncE and PTP 1588v2 frequency and phase
synchroniza on. PTN uses either Carrier Ethernet or MPLS as the transport encapsula on running over GE/10GE.
MPLS‐TP The Mul protocol Label Switching-Transport Profile, a variant of IP-MPLS protocol, it applies a Label Switching Path (LSP) on pack-
ets to accelerate the speed of their distribu on in Mesh infrastructure. The MPLS-TP is a connec on-oriented packed switched profile and
operator implement LSP and PW as SDH circuits. It provides a powerful OAM.
Carrier Ethernet is an Ethernet transport network which support Virtual Connec on with VLAN/S-VLAN with a strategy of deployment
that guarantees the bandwidth and latency of traffic as MPLS-TP. CE also supports the OAM End to End.
WDM The Wavelength Division Mul plexing passive technology is based on op cal mul plexing of different wavelengths in the same fiber.
Thanks to op cal transmission these different wavelengths do not impact each other and provide a secure, stable and passive transmission.
The Basic WDM mul plexing is done by Bidi SFP/SFP+ of 2 wavelengths as 1310nm from A to Z and 1550nm from Z to A over a single Bidirec-
onal fiber. FTTH uses the wavelengths 1310, 1490, 1550nm to support Internet and RF signal. Simple transmission or with two or three col-
ors uses a +/- 50nm band of signal.
Lambda (λ) Lambda is the name given to the wavelength for CWDM or DWDM transmission. We will also say that a CWDM or DWDM
wavelength is a colored wavelength.
CWDM The Coarse Wavelength Division Mul plexing is a passive technology which mul plexes up to 18 wavelength (or Lambda) in the
same fiber with a spacing of 20nm and working channel passband +/- 6.5nm. The SFP/SFP+ are using the Lambda 1271, 1291, 1311, 1331,
1351, 1371, 1391, 1411, 1431, 1451, 1471, 1491, 1511, 1531, 1551, 1571, 1591 and 1611nm.
The CWDM is more economic than DWDM but the transmission is limited to the MAN 70km and cannot be amplified with EDFA.
DWDM The Wavelength Division Mul plexing technology can mul plex up to 96 lambda but is more difficult to deploy and more expen-
sive. Loop Telecom supports the Lambda DWDM of the C-Band solu on with 8 or 16 lambda per filter. We propose the solu on with 100GHz
or 0,8nm channel spacing proposed.
This technology gives the possibility to amplify the
signal with EDFA Booster, Preamplifier and Raman
amplifier.
OTN The Op cal Transport Network is a technology defined by the ITU-T G.709. It is a Layer 2 mul plexing of op cal signal to enable the
transport of op cal packet based and SDH/SONET traffic. This technology supports full independency for all client interfaces as ac ve/
inac ve transmission, their OAM, their clock and ming NTP/PTP synchroniza on and a total inter-channel security.
RAN Radio Access Network. This technology has been developed for the transmission to the BTS/Node B/Micro Cell of RF signal. Ini ally
the ac ve equipment BBU was located at the foot of the Antenna. Now the BBU/DU are centralized and 10 to 20km links between BBU/DU
and RRU, or RF antenna, are linked with RF signal over fiber. This op cal sec on of the RAN is named Front-haul. One of the WDM1800 mis-
sions is to support the Fronthaul and op mized the fiber by CWDM or DWDM mul plexing.

CWDM/DWDM to share the fibers
Op cal CWDM/DWDM mul plexing a single fiber with several different Wavelengths or Lambdas. Each Lambda
is independent and par cularly in the transported link. The level of op cal transmission, ac vi es, clocks, inter‐
ference of content or security between links/lambdas are fully independent without any rela on.
The Loop‐Telecom‐WDM1800 modular system has been designed to carry Ethernet up to GE, 10GE and 25GE,
STM16 for Industrial, Defense and Telco applica ons, and this page will present the general applica ons par cu‐
larly for Misssion Cri cal Communica on.
Mul service op cal mul plexing for industries as Power‐U li es, Transporta on, Oil and Gas, Defense…
The CWDM/DWDM mul plexing doesn't need a condi oning of the op cal data except the connec on to the system through an op cal SFP
1310nm or 1550nm and the respect of the frequency supported by the Transponder and CWDM/DWDM filter.
The WDM1800 2U or 5U chassis is equipped with single or redundant CPU, power supply and Mul -FAN module plus the op cal cards. CPU
are manageable by FE/GE copper or fiber port and in large site the chassis can be daisy chained by CPU.
These chassis support 6 or 15 op cal tributary modules. All op cal connec ons between modules are operated with patch cord on the front.
The func ons of the cards are :
CWDM or DWDM filters or MUX‐DMUX provide the Mul plexing of Lambda from the fibers in one fiber, and demul plexing at other
end of the fiber. WDM1800 filter are available in 8 Lambdas for 4 channels or 16 Lambdas for 8 channels on single fiber.
The Lambda can be issued from the ac ve terminal with colored SFP or by the Transponder
Transponder has the mission to convert the standard op cal wavelength to a colored wavelength or Lambda. But it adds the func on of
regenera on of signal at the end of fiber with Re-Amplifica on, Re-Shaping, and Re-Timing according to his transported protocol : GE...
Such configura on of the schema c of 8 clients of 10GE using 24dB budget DWDM SFP or SFP+ can reach 70km without amplifica on.
Long distance extension for 10GE/GE or STM16 with mul plexing for industries,
Because of high level of op cal signal dispersion generate by high speed signal, to increase the distance of 10GE it is necessary to transmit
the signal over narrow band DWDM by using DWDM SFP/SFP+ and DWDM filter. This DWDM signal can be amplified with an EDFA Booster
in the line a er DWDM MUX. To extend at longer distance an EDFA-Preamplifier should be added end of line before DWDM DEMUX. But for
long-haul it is necessary to add Dispersion Compensa on Module (DCM) at level of Booster and Preamplifier along the line.
The WDM1800 support the following modules :
Booster EDFA ,
model -1BOEDFA-CBA20 that provide
20dBm signal at the beginning of the line.
Preamplifier EDFA,
model -1PREDFA-CBA20 that can amplify
the signal per 20dB at the end of the line.

CWDM/DWDM to build RAN and Open-RAN for 2G/3G/LTE/5G
Loop Telecom WDM1800 modular system has been developed to support the transport of Radio communica on
between BBU/DU and the radio RU in the field over a single fiber. This is used for the Mobile 3G, 4G/LTE and 5G
but also for the deployment of Private LTE and Private 5G together with other Mission Cri cal Communica on for
the industry that are sharing the same fiber.
Each fiber supports up to 8 links with 2G/3G/LTE RAN, 5G RAN and other 1GE or 10GE in the same fiber with back‐
up. The WDM1800 transponders support the automa c detec on of OBSAI, CPRI and eCPRI protocol up to 25GE.
C‐RAN for 2G, 3G and 4G/LTE Mobile infrastructure with CPRI and OBSAI:
The Centralized Radio Access Network (C-RAN) technology has given the possibility to reduce the ac ve equipment close to the Antenna
and by the way the constraints of power supply and security. The Central Node (CU) is linked to the DDU over Ethernet fiber or could use
CWDM/DWDM links. Each radio is connected over an adapter with RF transmission over fiber to a BBU with extreme low latency require-
ment. This sec on is named the Fronthaul. In order to transport mul ple radio link in the area we use the CWDM/DWDM to mul plex this
passive sec on.
This Radio transmission between BBU/RU uses CPRI or OBSAI protocols. Such deployment is generally limited to the MAN, less than 40km.
RAN or Open‐RAN for 5G or Private‐5G Mobile infrastructure with eCPRI‐10GE and eCPRI‐25GE:
For the FRONTHAUL 5G
WDM1800-4TP25G3RMa Transponder supports 4 bidirec onal links 25GE transponder for P2P op cal transport with 3R Regenera on, Re-
Amplifica on, Re-Shaping, and Re- ming for eCPRI-10GE and eCPRI-25GE. It provides the Monitor packet and FCS error. DWDM filters mul-
plex up to 8 mes 25GE links in single fiber with backup.

OTN G.709 Optical Multiplexing and transport
The Op cal Transport Network OTN according to the ITU‐T G.709 is a Layer 2 mul plexing to enable the transport
of op cal packet based and SDH/SONET traffic. This technology provides the protocol transparency, backward
compa bility of transported protocol, a reduc on of 3R regenera on. OTN mul plexing supports the transparent
transport of OAM, PTP 1588v2 of each link. Loop Telecom WDM1800 MuxPonder OTN module supports the
transport of 7 clients over one 10Gbits OTU2 fiber interfaces with direct or WDM interconnec on.
OTN and DWDM Mul plexing of Packet and SDH/SONET from 100Kbps to 10GBits with long distance extension
The new WDM1800‐MuxPonder module (model –7MP10Ga*) can be integrated in front of Transponder and CWDM or DWDM MuxDemux
with eventual EDFA Booster and Preamplifier. This solu on gives the possibility to integrate low rate network interface Fast-Ethernet,
STM1… together with GE, 10GE or STM16, STM64 interface in the same bidirec onal op cal interface with 1+1 protec on.
