petrochemical expansion project underway Nayara Energy is setting up a 450 KTPA capacity Polypropylene plant, a
new Propylene recovery unit along with upgrades to the existing FCC and LPG Treatment Units, associated offsite
and utility facilities at its 20 MTPA refinery facility in Vadinar, Gujarat,India.

Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited

Position: Electrical Senior Technician
Duration: July 21,2010 to May 22,2016(5Years – 10 Months)

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

i. Plan, execute and supervise scheduled preventive and corrective maintenance for electrical installations under
area of responsibility to achieve the department KPI’s.
ii. Diagnoses, troubleshooting, repair and replaces faulty parts on all electrical equipment in assigned area of
responsibility in accordance with manufacturer’s specifications and company policies to assure equipment
integrity and availability.
iii. Recommend the required spare replacement during preventive / corrective maintenance
iv. Review the spare parts list and report for the missing/improper items to minimize the repair and equipment
down time
v. Ensure that all special instruments, tools and relevant spares are available and safe for usage prior to starting
work in order to minimize downtime.
vi. Carry out the electrical isolation and switching of HV (11kv, 6.6KV) and LV (415 V, 240 V) equipment’s in
accordance to company policies and procedure to assure safe work condition for plant electrical and rotating
equipment.
vii. Supervise team of electrical technicians, general technicians and contractors. Coordination of Shut down
activities with contractors. Give the daily feedback and reports to area engineer / senior engineer.
viii. Execution of various types of Work Permits (PTW) by using RIS (Refinery Information Systems) module.
ix. Using Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) with SAP-R/3 Module for notifications,
work orders, acceptance and completion. Material reservation and issuing from store etc.
x. Maintains daily contact with the Supervisors / senior technicians of other section and operation’s shift
controllers / shift supervisors to carry out and plan / schedule the maintenance activities.
xi. Assisting Senior Electrical Engineers in critical jobs, design study of plant equipment, updating/ Modifying
existing equipment, plant change request (PCR) etc.
xii. Reviews equipment history and performance, contributes to plant failures investigation and makes
recommendations for improvement. Liaises with Operations and Inspection to ensure equipment is retained in
good functional order at all times.
xiii. Maintain equipment history records. Make reports of Major/critical failure of equipment and jobs performed
on them.
xiv. Prepare the feedback of the weekly WOs, Back log, Man Hours and send to Planning and Area Engineer.
KEY ACHEIVEMNTS:

i. Leading the Team of Technicians, Contractors and helpers for the Maintenance of 11KV , 6.6 KV, 415 V
Switch Gears, Circuit Breakers, Transformers, Motors, Heaters etc. during the Major Shut down and Turn
Around in 2011,2013,2016,2022.
ii. Actively participated in the major overhauling of 28 MW steam turbine driven Power Generator along with
Vendor (GHH BORIS).
iii. Assist senior electrical engineer to review and modify the preventive maintenance task list, intervals &
performing procedures for electrical motors, Circuit Breakers, Transformers, Heaters and Lighting system.
iv. Preparing the list of spare parts used in each equipment with part number, SAP material Number, Used
quantity, Available Quantity etc.
WORK PROFILE:

Hands on experience of Operation, Maintenance and troubleshooting of following electrical equipment;

SWITCHGERS:
HV & LV switchgears “ABB, SIEMENS, ALSTOM” etc (11kv, 6.6Kv, 3.3kv, 400v) with associated control circuits
(110Vac, 110Vdc), OCBs, VCBs, ACBs, Feeders, Automatic bus transfer system, Automatic restarting system, Motor
control centers (MCCs), Load changeover, Isolation/cancellation, protection relays testing etc.

GENERATORS:
150.625 MVA ,10MVA Generators “BRUSH TURBO GENERATOR AND ABB MAKE GENERATOR” and its auxiliaries
which are driven by Frame-9E ,ABB STALL GT35“GE GENERAL ELECTRIC & ABB ” gas turbine model FRAME 9E MARK
-VI & FRAME ABB STALL GT-35. The responsibilities include maintenance, trouble shooting, load transferring,
Synchronizing and testing of protection relays with primary and secondary injection set.

28MW Steam turbine Driven Generator (GHH BORIS) and its protection and control system.
700 KVA and 250 KVA emergency Diesel Generators (WARTSILA ).
85KW Gas engine Driven small power Generators (Cummin).

TRANFORMERS
Step Down Transformers up to 5MVA “SIEMENS,ABB AND SCHNEIDER” ETC. Periodic inspection, Maintenance, Oil
testing, Oil Replacement / Treatment, Insulation resistance testing, Protection relays testing etc.

MOTORS
Overhauling and maintenance of Various types of HV & LV electric motors according to hazardous area classification
like “ ABB, SIEMENS” etc (11KV, 6.6KV, 400V), 6.6KV Variable frequency Drive (VFD) motors “VACON AND
ABB” along with associated control circuits.

UPS AND BATTERIES:

Inspection, maintenance testing and troubleshooting / replacing control cards, spare parts for More than 70 units of
solid state control battery chargers and UPS with Battery Banks back up system from 6.9KVA up to 200KVA
“CHLORIDE, SAFT, AEG TELEFUNKEN, VARTA, AUTOMAT” etc.

TURNAROUND ACTIVITES:

i. HV and LV Panel Shutdown Maintenance and Inspection of Bus bars, Bus contacts, cable Terminations, CT,
PT’s, Metering, Protection systems Operation of Barrier Shutter, Earth switch and Micro Limit switches.
ii. For Breakers - Checking of IR value, Contact Resistance, Contact Travel Measurement, Contacts closing &
opening time measurement, Integrity of Vacuum, contacts carbon Impression
iii. For Motors and generators, Overhauling, Air gap measurement, Bearing Replacing, Pedestal Insulation
checking, Vibration check-up and Shaft Voltage Measurement.
iv. For Generators unit, Checking of Rotating Diodes, Excitation System, control wiring, Synchronization System
and Function Test.
